Welcome all. I was just shooting from my hip on the outline above. Open to suggestions, and certainly to any new pages you think need to be added to any section -- the above is just an early draft right now with prominent sample pages.

VII -- CONTROVERSIES

Kings VS TWolves Playoffs (Game Seven Clock Malfunction)
Royals Jerseys (Anaheim Rebranding Controversy)
Rupe Da Hoop

--or maybe add an ODDITIES section and have Rupe in there/
Bat Interrupts Kings Game VS Spurs
House Party Live

They might not be significant but just getting the thought out before it's lost.

Also Booby Jackson? C'mon Brick get your head out of the gutter :D I'll send a smaller single image for that Wiki Badge in the next couple days.

How about ownership info, including original owners, Maloofs, Vivek, etc. Major political figures (Serna, Fargo, KJ, etc.) and their parts in the quest to keep the team?

You're right, I just forgot to put that section up.

Yeah, what to classify Rupe Da Hoop As? :p

I think I'll just add "Oddiites" to the "Events & Controversies" section. better encapsulates some of that stuff too.

Maybe we could add an entry for Scott Moak under the Arena section? Can't think of any other arena personnel who would qualify. He doesn't really fit any of the other media categories. he's not front office.

Or maybe he could be with the Dancers & Mascots? that would keep him in an entertainment/live entertainment area.

A few off the top of my head .. mostly in the controversy section

Angela Tsai
The Van Gundy Kinkos Story
The Paul Westphal/Cousins press release mess
Donte Greene/ Cousins fight
Pulling back the Iggy contract / his tweets after
Chuck Hayes heart thing / contract pull, then offer more money

And here is this hilarious Angela Tsai Highlight real... maybe NSFW?

Would Marcus Breton qualify as a Kings writer for these purposes? Know he had a number of columns on the Maloofs + earlier arena efforts.

While Breton was never a sports writer, he has written quite a bit about the "off the court" stuff...and had great fun poking the stick at Team Dime on occasion, so I'd say include him. We should probably include Joe Davidson, too, as well as the aforementioned Graswich. J. Freedom duLac also did some Kings-related stuff.

also, what would we classify Aaron Bruski as? Or is he better suited just for a mention under the Fight to Keep the Kings section?

J Freedom duLac now writes for the Washington Post. Not sure if we need to include him. I used to get dirt about Amick from him. :p I'd classify Bruski as part of the Fight to Keep the Kings.

Mark Kreidler was also in the mix for quite a while.

Kreidler! How could I forget that one. he was probably the best for a while.

Randy Brown
Born: May 22, 1968
Number: 3
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 190
Position: PG/SG
Yrs w/Kings: 1991-95 (4 years)

A 6'2" combo guard drafted by the Kings with the 31st pick of the 1991 NBA draft, Brown would play four years with the Kings from 1991 to 1995, primarily in a reserve role backing up both guard spots. An aggressive defensive specialist able to match up with a wide variety of players at either guard position, on offense Brown lacked the size and shooting ability of a shooting guard or the creative ability and passing of a pure point guard. Muscular and physical, he was nonetheless injury prone, and would miss 69 games during his four years in Sacramento. In 259 career games with the Kings, Brown would average 16.9min 5.2pts 2.0ast and 1.2stls. He left the Kings as a free agent after the 1994-95 season.

College
Brown began his college career at Houston University before transferring to New Mexico State before the 1989 season, where he would average 12.1pts 6.4ast and 2.5stls as a senior before being drafted by the Kings.

Post Kings Career
After leaving the Kings, Brown would go on to play for the Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics, and Phoenix Suns during a 12 year NBA career. With the Bulls he played a limited defensive role off the bench on Michael Jordan's second three-peat championship teams from 1995 to 1998, and was part of the Bulls historic 72 win 1995-96 season.

Post NBA Career
After retiring from the NBA Brown went into real estate before returning to Sacramento as an assistant coach from 2007 to 2009 under head coaches Reggie Theus and Kenny Natt. During this time it was also revealed that due to bankruptcy Brown had had to auction off his three Bulls championship rings. After Natt was dismissed, Brown returned to work for the Bulls front office, and currently holds the position of assistant general manager.

The above is a rough attempt at a sample for a midlevel Kings player. Open to any and all suggestions as to content and format. I forgot? Did we ever find a table workaround? Be handy for better formatting of the stats.

At the bottom I listed sources relied upon. In true wiki or academia you would footnote those in at points they were used. I'm not sure we have to be so formal, so I just listed them in bibliography fashion.

Note: by the time the project is finished there would be numerous internal links included on the page. To the individual season, to Theus and Natt pages, possibly to a page lisitng our draft picks etc.

The "College" Section might be "College & Pre Kings Career" or some such for most players. But since we drafted him I just made the title College.

Alright peeps and peepettes, we have a few days, I have the weekend, we should get this thing started now.

Happy Holiday to those who consider it happy. buy you a beer to drown your sorrows for those who don't.

So this is a big and intimidating enough project that its clear I am going to provide some leadership here. So, what I am thinking is this:

1) I am going to start opening up separate work in progress threads for each section of the Wiki that we are currently working on. This will be here for overall organization, but we can post our work in progress/ask questions etc. in whatever separate thread you are working in.

2) Players I, and whoever else wants to hop in, should start knocking off some of the midlevel and lower level player pages like the sample I provided above for Randy Brown. I chose him on purpose because a) I knew his game and history and b) he was a midlevel guy, a 4yr King, but not a major pillar of the franchise. In general guys at that level, let's say the Pete Chilcutts or Walt Williams' of the Kings world deserve something like that, maybe a tad more. Lesser guys, guys who were here 1 yr and did not leave much of an impact, might be even briefer. Major guys more extensive. I think we should probably leave the real big guys like Webber/Richmond aside for larger projects after we get the format down. They'll be major projects for somebody, or maybe even teams of somebodies.

I'm going to create threads for the A-C players, and the D-F players, and anybody who wants to take a shot at one of those players, drop a note claiming that player in the appropriate thread, and just copy the format I used for Brown above (we can still tweak that BTW, I put it up for comment, but for the time being we should try to use the same format for everybody). Every page we knock off is one we don't have to do this summer, and as I start marking things done the overall project will start looking more manageable. I strongly suggest you work with players you know -- it made it easy for me with Brown for instance. I knew most of that stuff, and could piece together the rest. Use whatever resources you want, but certainly a guy's wiki page and basketball-reference page are major resources.

2) Non-Player Pages Now, not everybody is going to be player oriented, and we have lots of non-player stuff to do. So I'm also going to be putting up an in progress thread for the media figures, and anything else people feel ready to take a swing at right now. Mad has memorabilia as I recall, whatever. We'll need to establish a format for those categories as well, so maybe if somebody wanted to take a shot at the media guy/gal's writeup of their choice, we could copy it and use it fro all of them etc.

3) Mostly we need participation. Right now 10 people are in here, I will go make a pitch for some more. But even with 10 if we got nothing more than 1 page a week from everybody, and I'll do more than that myself, we would knock off 50 pages a month and this could come together faster than you think. Randy's page took me about 2 hours of semi-distracted work. Just stick to things you know and its not as hard as you might think once we have a format to follow. We know most of this stuff. It just needs expression.

CruzDude would like to be included. :)

And I can tackle some of the print media folk. I've got a couple of ideas rattling around in my head; I'll try to commit to one or another and get something roughed out.

Note: I corrected Marty Mac's name to his actual name - Martin McNeal. If we're gonna do this, I think we need to get the names right.

Hey!

come help! :p

The games are few. The trade deadline is past. We're coasting home now and headed toward summer. So let's do something productive.

Don't make me do this project myself, because then its Bricklayer's wiki, and not the boards, and for something of this heft I WILL take it off site and give myself all the glory.

Make you a deal. You do a page, I'll do a page. It will go faster then you think. You'll see.

How about the Kings and summer league and their invitees? Have been going to summer league nearly 20 years now and have quite a bit of Kings history in Rocky Mountain Review and now Vegas Summer League.

Sure thing.

The only thing I would say there though is if we're going to do it, we have to be consistent across the board. Meaning we can't expose holes in our knowledge by having tons of information about everybody in 2007 because we happened to be there, but very little about 2003. Or whatever. So we have to pick a level where we can provide the same info for each season. It might be a simple writeup about where they played, their record, and who played well (even if we just have to rely on stats) or was notable. And then a list of the roster for that summer league. That way the writeup can be extended a bit for seasons where we have more knowledge and it won't be as obvious of a break between those seasons and the ones where we are just working off of boxscores.

I have the rosters for all Kings summer league teams from about 95/96 on as well as game stats and data on many and couple feature length articles on history of summer league. Plus photos and some never before publishen interviews. I'll summarize what can be provided shortly and we can go from there.
