Open Practice

Unless I heard things differently I know I heard January 16th and not 14th. Can anyone who attended confirm I am correct or was hearing things?

The videos have been posted, but some are still being processed to go live so give those a few minutes. I uploaded five videos (Bibby and Artest introduced, Arco Arena crowd, Kings introduced, Kings warming up and Kings doing a scrimmage).

I was right across from you. You can see me directly to the right of the top of the scoreboard in a grey shirt sitting with four kids. (well, in the big version)

Kids had a great time. And I thought it was great that the consessions were open, because like 6th said, I was not broke from tix and parking. Theus has a great presence. Only thing is that it would have been nice to have an autograph session.

He said Mike back on Wednesday and Artest a week later.

After reading your comment I had to check out Craig's List. I noticed two advertisements. One was selling each ticket for $5 or $20 for all four and another advertisement was selling four tickets for $45. Unbelievable. It made me sick to my stomach to see those two advertisements. I hope no one bought those tickets.

Mike, I posted a couple of "counter-ads" announcing that you could go to Kings.com and get the tickets for free. BUT, I think the scammers had my ads flagged and removed. Unbelievable.

On another note, I got to Arco late today, and had to sit upstairs. lol I'm glad all the families and kids had such a great time!

Huh - I was just expecting this to be a "practice", not a "fandemonium"-type event. Very cool. I'll have to watch for these in the future and go. We were kinda busy today, but good to know for next time!

This is a good PR for the team. I thought we should have done this a long time ago, but I guess this was the perfect time to bring the fans in. This year, we have a stable coach that seems to be learning the NBA life pretty quickly (also learning from some of his mistakes), the team is playing harder and dedication. The open practice was a way for the fans to see a little bit more into the team. I’m disappointed I couldn’t have gone, but I like the turnout. Hope everybody who went had fun…Thanks for posting pictures and videos.

Here are a couple sample photos from the open practice today. More are available as a slideshow on my Flickr page.

The lesson I learned today: Basketball photography is much, much harder than it looks.

I read some of those "counter-ads" and I am glad you posted them. Those people who posted advertisements trying to sell something that was free were very desperate to make money. Shame on them.

I'm also glad the Maloofs gave us Kings fans a once in a life time opportunity to watch the Kings practice in Arco Arena. Thank you Maloofs!

Now if they could just accept ATM debt cards at their concession stands I would be a very, very happy Kings fan. :D

A few things I noticed (with NewArena.) Kenny Thomas was trying his very best not to participate. During stretches he repeatedly tied his shoes instead of doing the stretch with the team. They were doing a hamstring stretch and Kenny just sat there and tied one shoe, and then the other. When the team was doing 'sprints' he walked.

Positive observations:
Bibby looked really good, on offense, and guarding Beno.
Justin Williams knocked down like ten elbow jumpers in a row and consistently hit them all practice. Ron Artest practiced just as hard as anybody. And Kevin has a really funny looking fade on his jumper. It has probably always been there, but I only really noticed it today.

NewMonkey, those are awesome photos! Very impressive work.

On another note, can anyone imagine Musselman being miked and running a fun Open Practice like this? Not!

I went to this event too and had a great time! :D Thanks to Maloofs for putting this event up!!

I took my 2 brothers and little nephew with me. We got to Arco by 11:40 and I was quiet surprise to see the whole lower level already full! So we sat in the upper level in those comfy seats and in the first row! It was an awesome view because no one's head was in our way and we had lots of room. We've never sat in these seats before at a game. :p I wouldn't mind going to this event again especially since it's free! I was shocked to hear that fans already lined up since 7:30am!!

NewMonkey, those are some great photos!!! Thanks for sharing with us.

Great article by Melody Guitierrez in the Bee about this event.

It's events like these that get people interested again. I would love to see them do another one. I know I'd make a point to be there, and probably take my granddaughters.

I agree with all of that and i hate that you beat me to it as far as posting the thing about kenny. :D

Just one personal thought? Why ruin a great discussion by dissing KT? We have so many other places where that goes on regularly.

:p

Your right VF, lets nor ruin a great thing by talking about something that is the opposite. Sorry...just couldnt help it. :o

I dont know if it was so much 'dissing' as it was 'stating the facts.' But still yeah it was fun.
