O'Neal

Indy wants to package #11 so they can get rid of O'Neal (which I'm a little concerned "knee-wise").

I say we give it to 'em.

Sacto out
Miller 11.4/12.3
Artest 8.5/0
Douby 1.4/whatever
#12 pick

Indiana Out
O'Neal 21/23
#11 pick

Total Miller Artest Douby = 21.3; O'neal this season 21.3

We get rid of Artest (who is dividing us anyway).
*We all know Salmons or Artest has to go anyway.
We actually let our young talent play (Artest is really hindering Garcia).
We fill a huge hole at the PF.
We draft ahead of Indiana which means we get the PG they would have selected (probably Augustin).

Only way I can think of to fill our two huge holes.

Beno/ Augustin
Martin/ Douby
Salmons/ Flaco
O'Neal/ Williams (hopefully Justin)
Moore/ Hawes

Rest crap unless Shareef gets healthy for this year then he could back up O'Neal at the PF, sh*t. Shareef could also play some time at the 5 to make up form some of Miller's minutes. Center tandem Hawes, Shareef, Moore. works okay, but we fill our two huge holes. Indiana gets Artest as an expiring of 8.5 (not bad considering LA got Gasol for like 10).

I know Bird would never do it.

I know Bird would never do it.

Neither would I.

O'Neal is damaged goods. He's sliding and not worth trading Artest for, much less Artest and Miller.

He's got 2 years left on his contract, so he's not even an expiring, making $20 mil a year.

You can't do that and give up the #12. Nor are the Pacers looking for a pick back. They are basically willing to dump the #11 in order to dump O'Neal. And if we had some nice juicy enders to send them I would say absolutely -- we take on the Jermaine contract, get the #11 to go with the #12 = yay. Problem is we can;t really help them. We have no enders they would want. There is absolutely no chance, none, that Ron Artest ever plays in a Pacers uniform again. And the closest viable piece we have other than that is Mikki Moore, who only has a fraction of the contract, but then has a partial buyout at the end of the year. Would they do it for Mikki and Brad Miller (who ends at the same time as Jermaine)? Considerably doubt it. But I'd offer.

Of course after that was done, you would have to dispose of Artest instantly, because he and Jermaine were toxic together.

I said clearly Bird would never do it to have four people tell me Bird would never do it. There would have to be a third party people.

Like Cleveland.

Do we have enough to get the expirings of szczerbiak and snow?

Moore, Shelden are both enders. I think Brad Miller could be turned into an ender via 3 way. Also SAR has the potential to retire as well. All possible options there. Just throwing out some alternatives.

Wow, JO's value has fallen like a rock. Larry Bird really held onto his cards for far too long; I mean, he had an opportunity to make all sorts of trades for O'Neal; O'Neal for Richard Jefferson, O'Neal for Andrew Bynum...now talks of that ilk have faded into the wind. Now they even have to attach their 11th pick, which they can sorely use on a guy like DJ Augustin, just to sack O'Neal and his bloated contract. He's no longer their franchise player clearly, and the trade is necessitated by contract over talent--when the GM perceives things in that manner, it's obvious that the player's skills have eroded. Of course, Bird's GMing skills have been pretty horrible, as they have several bloated contracts (Tinsley, Troy Murphy, O'Neal) they can't rid themselves of. His patience has been his undoing.

I actually think JO, although probably a shadow of his old self with all his injuries, can be a good complement to someone like LeBron--a better version of Ben Wallace, has a great defensive reputation with inside-outside scoring ability. LeBron still needs that 2nd option after Wally Sczerzbiak failed to live up to expectations, and when Delonte West is capable of being your 2nd option, that's when you sorely need one; JO can fill that void.
