One of Portland's Bigs?

I think everyone agrees that we need another 'big' and I noticed that Portland has four centers - LaFrentz, Przybilla, Magloire, Aldridge. With the except of LaFrentz,I reckon any of the other three will be worth pursuing - although i doubt we can get aldridge. that leaves either Przybilla and Magloire - both who i feel can really help us.

seeing as its not secret that Portland are rebuilding and therefore you probably say that this season is pretty much a write off and that they're using it as a opportunity for their young players to develop. we might have a chance at convinving them to make a deal with us.

Out of Magloire and Przybilla,i reckon Magloire be the easier one to get mainly because he is in his year of his contract. so here is my proposal:

Magloire for Corliss Williamson and Jason Hart (or Vitaly Potapenko)

Reasons for Portland to do it: They will still have cap flexibility next summer because like magloire - williamson and hart are in thier final year of their contract. by obtaining hart, they get a vet PG. Williamson could prove to be a good influence on their young players

Reasons for the kings to do it: rebounding, low post presence, and if he turns out to be a bust, we just dont resign him in the offseason. having said this i reckon it would be really sweet if we could do this but instead of williamson we give thomas instead - but i dont think portland would take that.

Williamson+Hart for Magloire? Really good for the Kings.

The ONLY one of those centers that the Kings might have any shot at without dipping into our limited talent pool would be LaFrentz, and that's because he has a bad contract and is soft. Magliore is a player of value who they went after in the offseason, Pryz just reupped with them and signed a nice contract, and Alrdidge is the #2 pick in the draft.

Corliss & Hart doesn't exactly carry much weight around the league at this point. Maybe get you somebody's #3 center, but not a player of quality. Interesting questions are around offering guys like Douhby and Cisco -- recent first rounders who appear out of favor and out of the rotation here. Too bad because I like Cisco's effort, but without a brain stem it doesn't matter I suppose.

They're 2-1 and people in Portland are at least semi-buzzing about the team right now. Last night there were a number of people watching the game at our end of season kickball party. They're definitely not going to contend for anything but I don't think they are in a hurry to move anybody right now either, and certainly not for our garbage.

Magloire is an expiring contract so there's no way they trade him. He still has value and can still play with no real contract issues right now.

The only guy they concievably trade is LaFrentz and I'm really not sure how he helps. Do the Kings really need another big guy who shoots way too often from the perimeter that's soft on defense and not that great a rebounder (considering how tall he is)? Also, his contract is just ridiculous. No way you want to take on that kind of salary. Unless you can somehow dump KT's contract on them, then you definitely shouldn't be doing this.

You can trade for Juwan Howard from us He's not getting any minutes anymore so you can have him for pretty much anything.

Some weeks ago I saw this trade impossible, but with the injury of Miles, and with the imminent return of Przybilla, with Aldridge playing really good and Randolph playing like an allstar, maybe a Magloire for Williamson+Hart+pick is possible. With all the injuries, Magloire has had limited minutes, and he wasn't playing well, so with Przybilla, LaFrentz, Randolph and Aldridge is he going to be happy with a limited role in his contract year?.

I agree. Corliss wouldn't start, but could fill a role in providing veteran leadership and toughness off the bench for a young team. Magloire does seem to have fallen out of favor there, and considering they have too many big men and we don't have enough, you think we could work something out.

Magloire has been pretty bad this season. I don't know if it's worth giving up anything of value for a half season of a mediocre Magloire. It's doubtful the Kings would be able to re-sign him in the offseason. It would probably take a pick or a young guy to get him, and I'm just not sure it's worth it.

Obtained in a trade this past summer from Milwaukee, the Toronto native has hardly been setting the world on fire in the Pacific Northwest and there's already rumblings that the Blazers are putting out feelers to teams that might want to talk trade.

Magloire is in the final year of a contract that will pay him $8.3 million (U.S.) this season which might be the one reason some team would want to obtain him.

His stats are hardly earth-shattering: he is only playing about 18 minutes a night while averaging 4.7 point and five rebounds a game. He's shooting 46 per cent from the field, 44 per cent from the free throw line and he commits about a turnover and a half a game.

There's no question he's frustrated by his role and his play but, to his credit, he hasn't popped off.

"There is a time and place to make comments and right now is not the time," he said earlier this season.

And now with Joel Przybilla and Raef LaFrentz coming back from injury and rookie LaMarcus Aldridge averaging eight points and about five boards a night, there's not going to be much playing time for Magloire anyway.

At this point I'd change my position and offer Corliss and Cisco for Magloire. Don't know if Portland will go for it, and they might get better offers, but it's pretty obvious that the Kings need an actual backup center more than they need Francisco, even given his potential.

In the offseason the Kings would have Magloire's bird rights and some room under the tax level to re-sign him. Magloire's looked pretty bad this year, but he's still only 28.

I think with Aldridge and Pryzbilla back, things have changed a bit to the point where Magloire is definitely expendable. However, Portland is more likely to hold onto his contract and let it expire at the end of the season for cap room than to trade him for a long contract. Maybe Corliss and Hart is a possibility, but only if they think they can use them. So probably only if Jack gets injured or something. And it's still unlikely Magloire re-signs so you're looking at a one season rental and at best a shot at the second round in the playoffs. Not any kind of longterm solution to the frontcourt problems.
