Olympics

^ me too..I wanna go to the Beijing one...lets see...I'll be 21 and for the London one I'll be 25..lol..I'm gonna try to make it to at least one of them..lol

I'm glad it's not in NYC...if anything, that'll be a target 4 terrorists

"I'm glad it's not in NYC...if anything, that'll be a target 4 terrorists"

I was thinking the same thing.

I got to go to the Olympics in 84 in LA. Only 40.00 for tickets to the men's volleyball finals..US vs. Brazil for the gold!!

Should've Been Here!!

I can't say I'm disappointed that NYC lost the bid. London, Paris, Madrid, Moscow, were all fine with me since the IOC seems to hate the US these days.

I cannot help but feel the San Francisco (N Calif) bid would have had a much better chance than NYC which imho was strictly an emotional choice. We had virtually all the facilities in place, our costs were much lower, and the conditions for the athletes and the visiting world would have been cleaner, more beautiful, and much friendlier. It truly could have been a great event. Almost as good as a Niners-Raiders Super Bowl. Better than an A's-Giants World Series.

Looking at the locations of the summer games from 1960-2012 the count by continent reads:

Europe: 6
N America: 4
Asia: 3
Australia:1

If that's a factor at all, (I doubt it) N. America should be a good candidate for 2016. Of course that includes Mexico and Canada too. Further south, Brazil seems to be very interested as well.

Now if I can just talk George Lucas into working on the presentation to the IOC for the 2016 SF bid...... ;)

^ yeh....I dunno that much about San Francisco, but it would've been a much better place than NYC...I mean, of all places in the US, why would NYC even be mentioned as a host city???

I really could careless where the Olympics are held...I think they would be enjoyable pretty much everywhere...I'm with kingsgurl87 I'm all for going to the Olympics in Beijing I've always wanted to go to China

On second thought if the 2012 Olympics were in Paris that would make for some REAL REAL serious shopping, which in my mind is ALWAYS a PLUS :D

Just a thought, but I wonder if the terror attacks in London today had anything to do with this?

Probably not. The annocement of London Olympics in 2012 was about 24 hours ago. That is not enoughto plan all of this.

Unless there were thing set in place in all the cities bidding for the Olympics. That is a very scary thought.

Agreed. Although if Putin is a good boy I wonder if they wouldn't throw it Moscow's way. I wonder if S.Africa wouldn't be a contender as well, or if the World Cup in 2010 would rule them out. Although we had a World Cup and then only two years later an Olympics.

My God, predict so correctly.

^^We cant really be sure at this point quite what the motivation was of the murderers who perpetrated this crime. Its probably not helpful to speculate.

I think London was a target for terrorism before the announcement of the Olympics so i dont think anything's really changed.
Im just hoping that with the award of the 2012 Games, the rejuvenation plans and infrastructure upgrades that have been highlighted for some the the more 'run down' parts of the Capital get put in place. That should have a positive effect on the lives of the people who live and work in the city.

Yes, there's some parts of the old 'Eastend' (east of the financial district) where you really wouldnt fancy having a wander around after dark - but sadly a lot of cities in the UK have their 'less desirable' areas.

London is quite 'compact' so within a relatively short distance you can go from some of the most affluent areas (in the north and west) to parts that require a greater degree of police attention.

Commitments must have been given to the International Olympic Committee that there will be infrastructure spend and improvements so we have to hope that over the next few years we begin to see the tangible results of that outlay.
