We are not in the driver's seat with Cat. ANY team could do a sign and trade with Denver, if that's what he and Denver really want. And I'm sure there's a team out there in a much better position than we are to get the deal done.

Certainly we aren't, but Mobley is desireable and if Denver just has the MLE, they'll probably need to deal to get him. I think that deal is too good to be true, Denver wouldn't give up that much just to get their SG, but you never know. If they want him bad enough, it could happen.

Any team could do a sign and trade...I guess that's true. I didn't think about that. It doesn't necessarily have to be us, though we could offer him more money and years than any other team.

I'm not sure what you mean here. The Kings aren't in the driver's seat in the sense that Mobley doesn't have to agree to a sign-and-trade deal since he's a free agent. But it seems like you are saying that another team could sign and trade Mobley to Denver, which isn't true. He is Sacramento's free agent, so only they can sign and trade him.

Mobley's options are:

(1) re-sign with the Kings (unlikely)
(2) sign with a team with caproom (doubtful)
(3) take the MLE from a team over the cap (fairly likely)
(4) sign-and-trade with the Kings (possible, but I don't see it)

If the Kings DO get a sign-and-trade done, I doubt they will get anything valuable in return. It rarely happens in S&T deals. Usually what happens is the player leverages his former team by claiming he will sign with another team outright leaving them with nothing.

I wondered about that after I posted it... Cuttino has opted out of his contract, making him an unrestricted free agent. I thought there was some way another team could sign and trade him but I admit I'm not really sure...

I was pretty sure, but I checked Larry Coon's site to verify. Unless the CBA has changed in this regard (and I don't know why the owners would agree to it) only the old team can sign and trade their free agents.

I think Mobley will end up leaving for the MLE, maybe even to go back to Orlando now that they have jettisoned Weisbrod. Of course, with Twardzik running things, maybe we should offer up Ostertag for Dwight Howard. This is the same man that passed up Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady in consecutive drafts in order to land sure fire studs Todd Fuller and Adonal Foyle. But I digress . . .

I can't see a young rebuilding team like the Hawks, Hornets or Bobcats investing big bucks into an older, undersized and ballhogging shooting guard. The Hawks won't even think about it since they have plenty of wings and need a PG and C in the worst way.

So who has caproom and would go after Mobley? The Clippers say they're interested, but is Sterling really going to dust off his pocketbook for Mobley? I don't know. The Cavs could see him as a consolation prize if they can't get Allen, Redd, or even Hughes. But that's a pretty big dropoff and not exactly the kind of signing that is going to guarantee to continue the King James era in Ohio.

Maybe a dearth of stars in the free agent class will cause some team to panic and overpay, but otherwise I can't see Mobley getting a payraise without a sign and trade. But I guess we'll see. These are NBA owners that always want contract limits in the C.B.A. because they can't control their own spending.

Rick Adelman doesn't decide which players stay and which go. It's up to Geoff Petrie and the Maloofs. IMHO they didn't intend for Kenny Thomas to be the PF we rebuild the team around. Joe Maloof made it clear HE thinks the core is Brad, Bibby and Peja. NO MENTION of Kenny Thomas whatsoever. Most people look at the Webber trade as being more than one step. The first step was getting his contract traded away for smaller, more moveable ones. The second step will be to take those contracts acquired in the Webber deal and move them for someone that will really fit our needs.

That's why I think we'll move him. It's a guessing game for all of us anyway, so my guess is just as valid as anyone else's.

No, I potentially agree with you here -- here is a not impossible nightmare scenario:

Those idiots might actually be all warm and fuzzy because gee, KT does have a nice jumper for a PF (although only an average one for a man of his height, the rest of whom are SFs or OGs). And of course in Kingsland, end of analysis. Jumper = spring a chubby. It turns out to be better than internet porn for a pair of softy shooting guards from the no defense 70's and a couple of shallow flimflam artist owners from Vegas. Furthermore, KT turns out to have 15 and 10 potential in our system -- 15 and 10 of ineffective nothingness that contributes about 2 wins a season, but 15 and 10 enough to fool the fools. Then of course as we get obliterated next postseason after we impressively win 48 to 50 games with our unathletic and midget lineup of shooters, we'll be right back here complaining right up until the time they drop a max contract on Peja along with another hike in ticket prices. This should be followed shortly by a relatively mass exodus of season ticket holders (including yours truly as my bros have largely quit attending games and haven't even been able to consistently give them away anymore), dropping us down below the point where sellouts are guaranteed. If the arena is not already taken care of by that point, the nadir of interest in the Kings makes a move quite possible, with the team ironically arriving in whatever new city (K.C. most likely) with the same sort of softy shooter no defense #8 seed/lottery lineup that it arrived in Sacto with. that still irks me, i don't know why Adelman didn't play Ostertag on him. He seemed to do a decent job on him when he was in there. Adelman just couldn't pull the team together in the playoffs, which is kinda odd.

It's a interesting idea for our situation: give players for nothing in exchange. Corliss for Nesterovic, and then Nesterovic to Seattle, and Skinner for Harpring , and then Harpring to Detroit, or something like that will put us under the cap.

The Pierce trade sounds good only if you are the Bucks GM, and Boston will never do that.

Another proposal I like is Kenny Thomas for Etan Thomas. Bad contract for bad contract, but Etan can give us rebounds, blocks and some inside scoring, and I think Etan's contract is 'tradeable' in the future.

You don't know what questions, comments, etc. were made leading up to the quote you heard or read. Not everything makes the news clip or the article in the paper.

According to you, the comment was that Thomas COULD flourish in our system. That's about as non-committal a comment as I've seen. There's a big difference between "could flourish" and "we're rebuilding our team around him."

Yes I do agree with you. Kenny is a good player, but with the skillset of the other guys they don't cover up eachothers flaws. I DON"T want our PF and our C next year jacking up 18 footers all game long. Leave that to Brad and find a guy that can venture into the post!

Since we want to focus on KT's scoring and rebouding all of a sudden lets focus on him as a king with actual team play and not a dead offense like the ones he played on before. Also lets compare those to the ppl Brick listed that we could use at the PF spot. Now you will surely come back with Yeah Yeah but but defense. But you 2 seemed to want to focus on the double double line that has been mentioned to rain down on KT.

If you want to focus only on Kenny Thomas as a King, then why not assume these that these players stats would also rise if on the Kings. Most play on dead offenses as well.
