Official 2013-14 Free Agent Tracking Thread

I agree, that Ed Davis contract is a steal. Presumably, the Kings still have their bi-annual exception, worth right around $2 million. Not sure there would have been a better use for it...

Just because he signed for $2mil a year with the Lakers doesn't mean he would have signed with us for the same. We would have had to pay a LOT more to nab him away from LA. And even then, it's not like we can force him to sign a contract. He would have to WANT to come here.

Lakers signed Ed Davis 2 year 2 million dollar deal what a cheap and good signing, I wonder if we made ANY attempt to sign him that deal is crazy low imo for a guy with his type of talent.
So they give Jordan hill $18 mil over 2 years and ed Davis $2 mil. I guess it balances itself out.

Yeah, paying $10 million/year for Ed Davis and Jordan Hill doesn't sound so bad, just the allocation of it is odd.

Fair point. Especially when he'd be competing with 12 different power forwards for PT here.

All they gotta do is fire Monty hire Keith Smart and if they make the playoffs it would be pretty damn funny

Well to be fair, Monty Williams isn't that far off from Keith Smart in the first place. I'm always amazed that he's lasted as long as he has at the helm of the Hornets.

Boston signed Evan Turner there backcourt is starting to look rather crowded with Rondo/Smart/Turner/Bradley

I'm a bit overwhelmed right now and have not been updating this. I am aware of several dozen signings that aren't up.

Almost everyone with a bit of talent is taken. It's time for the Kings to pick up and overpay for the crumbs.
Earl Clark still out there I would love him as a back up SF instead of whoever we are trying to get atm

I'm surprised no ones picked up Ramon Sessions (who I really wanted and I prefer to DC), I think someone like Miami really could use him he'd be a excellent addition to any squad, he gets to the rim with the best of them and can start or be a bench player and impacts games nicely. Memphis would be a nice place for him as well they could really use his scoring although Calathas has been on a tear in the WC from what I have heard and did a excellent job as a starter last year.

We still carry Jared Cunningham on our roster with the indication that he is a Free Agent. Why? I don't see his name on the list of FAs at the beginning of this thread. Why? Is he our third SG?

Cunningham is currently a free agent.

I believe the Kings.com roster lists Cunningham (while marking him as a free agent) because we have a cap hold (i.e. virtual salary cap money) for Cunningham that we have apparently not rescinded. That cap hold would go away if another team signs him, or if we rescind it at will.

Sometimes it does not become necessary to rescind a cap hold (if it does not affect the salary cap adversely) and if the player does not sign elsewhere they can persist for years, doing no apparent good to the team or the player, until they interfere with a signing the team wishes to do under the salary cap.

I don't see his name on the list of FAs at the beginning of this thread. Why?

That is probably an oversight.

Is he our third SG?

Not right now, because he is not a member of the Kings. We could of course sign him, but as of yet I haven't seen any noise about that. If we were to sign him to a regular contract (meaning not just a training camp invite, but for the full season) it would likely be as a 3rd-string PG *and* 3rd-string SG. As a deep backup, he can step into either position.

Looks like we got him as a bargain price

You and I are in agreement on Sessions. I've liked him since college, but we don't agree on another player you've brought up a few time and that's Earl Clark. Not sure what you see in him but, for one thing, he's not a SF. He played PF in college, and if he's anything, it has to be PF. He has literally no game away from the basket. He has no three point shot. To be honest, he doesn't have much game at the basket, and his career overall field goal average is 40%, which is terrible for a PF. He doesn't handle the ball all that well, he doesn't rebound very well, and he doesn't block shots. He's a very good athlete, but he's not a very good basketball player. I thought in his one year with the Lakers, he got legitimate minutes, and he did very little with them. He came into the NBA lacking skills, and I've seen little or no improvement since then. If you were to look him up in the dictionary, you'd find him in the Donte Greene section.
