Oden is out at least temporarily after spraining his foot. He missed all last season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his knees. Throw in a laundry list of other concerns about his health and things do not look good for a long term future in the league.

So, how many games will he play in the NBA? I'm saying 52.........

I'll take the over, but I think 52 is a pretty good over/under.

Are you talking total games for the career or this year?

Just wondering, because it sounds like you are going for career.

My answer - who knows? I know he has an injury history, but really, how can anyone know or pretend to guess at this point?

I was talking for his career. There's no way he's playing 52 this year, and NO, three plays into the first game does not count as a complete game!

There's an interesting story at Yahoo sports about him having a bulging disc in his back and the fact that one o his legs is shorter than the other causing hip problems.

It's just a topic for speculation....

I'll take under... his size is just going to destroy his knees, feet, and ankles in the NBA game.

LOL, you don't think he's going to even play in 52 for his CAREER? Come on, are you serious?

After 83 games so far his total is 0!;)

I didn't realize how many additional health problems he had. 52 games for his career was just a "shock" total. But, I wouldn't be shocked if he had a VERY short career.

this season? about 45... kinda sucks the way its going down for him... he's on pace to end up in nene territory if he keeps getting hurt... i feel sorry for the guy, for the team and their fans... he has so much promise and potential to be a great player but his body is saying otherwise....

Blazers' Oden sprains foot in first game, will miss 2-4 weeks

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3671791

PORTLAND, Ore. -- After missing all of last season because of knee surgery, Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden injured his foot in his first regular-season NBA game and will be sidelined two to four weeks.
The team said Wednesday that MRI and computerized axial tomography scans confirmed Oden has a mid-lateral foot sprain.

If he blows his knee again, he may never return... Oden should be called "Big Downside".

Yes, and I'm sure if he is in a plane crash that will probably keep him from returning again as well.

If he blows his knee again is the story of the NBA, but it happens like, oh, almost never. And yes, BTW, Oden would return. The big guys always can because they always have the size to fall back on. No amount of broken feet can keep Big Z, or Rik Smits, Bill Walton, Sam Bowie or Yao out of commission. Achillles injuries do not stop guys like Sabonis, just slow them. A long series of magical knee issues -- which we have just made up onthe spot since his knee is generally in better shape than Spencer's -- might eventually limit his career, but that's 8-10 years down the line at least.

He may in fact turn out to be injury prone, but since none of the injuries have been related to any of the others there is nothing chronic to talk about at this point. And injury prone big guys is nothing new in the league. Shaq is injury prone. Yao is injury prone. Camby is injury prone. Webb was injury prone. Amare missed a full year. Big Z missed almost 2 full years. Etc. etc. Having injury problems doesn't suddenly turn #1 overall picks into guys with 52 game careers.

First, personally I would consider a prior microfracture surgery to be a chronic condition in a big man. Also, none of the players you referenced had anywhere near the injury histroy of Oden before they played their first NBA game. Is it just bad luck?? Hmmmm....time will tell.

It sure does suck that the Kings did not tank that season and get Oden eh? For all those in support of tanking, TAKE NOTE.

oden looks like an oversized handicapped version of lebron. And the guy is slow off his feet I've been saying this since his Ohio st days. He may get blocks out of just having sheer size but he's nothing special IMO. Nobody knows who greg oden is. He played one year of college an was injured his first year in the NBA was done before it started and now this ankle thing. He's all hype and speculation t this point.

Someone should have posted an announcement. Meetings of the Chicken Little Society are always so much fun...

Since Oden is chronologically 20, but appears to be biologically over 30, I figure he'll be retiring in about two more seasons. ;)

I feel sorry for him. There’s this high expectation from everybody on the guy. Can people just give him a year of playing time before they call him a bust/a total waste of pick/injury prone/or whatever people are calling him? Let him breath a little.

You do realize that our own young center has had a prior microfracture surgery, right?

Yes, I do. However, Spencer's legs are equal in length unlike Oden's, and he weighs 45lbs less. Not to mention that Spencer has had no other significant injuries. I have no stake in seeing Oden's career cut short. I just think it's intersting that a #1 pick not only struggles with "an" injury but now we are finding out that there maybe some more serious health issues involved.

Anyone that is not seriously concerned about Greg Oden's health at this point is just being delusional. I thought the whole point of these forums was speculation and mild mockery?;) Let's just hope that the Kings medical staff who declared SAR's knees healthy are not involved.

Brick is right on this one -- people are overreacting now whenever they see 'injury' and 'Greg Oden' in the same sentence. Oden was getting mugged in the paint and the refs wouldn't call it (at this point I consider any ref involvement at a Lakers home games suspicious). It's no real surprise he turned an ankle in the process.

Its sad to see people are almost taking glee in this injury. By all accounts he is a really nice guy and he's itching to earn his paycheck. I don't know if he'll ever live up to the expectations he had coming in, but I don't think he'll go down as a bust either.

I think he'll play at least 40 games this season, if the over/under is 52 put me on the over.

Delusional? Oh please.

You're saying Greg Oden is only going to play 52 games in the NBA and I'm being delusional?

I generally respect your takes but it appears to me in this instance as though you went speeding down Assumption Lane and leaped right off Conclusion Cliff...plummeting to the rocks below.

Oh so that's how you get to conclusion cliff! Geez why didn't they say this on the map
