Nocioni to the celtics rumor

Dave - Boston: Celtics get anything done?

sn2.gif
Chad Ford: (12:09 PM ET ) We keep hearing all morning that the Celtics were talking to the Kings about a deal for Nocioni. The Kings can move him again as long as they don't package him with other players on their roster. The Celtics would send back Scalabrine, Tony Allen, Glen Davis and Patrick O'Bryant. However, a Celtics source says there's nothing happening there. A Kings source, however, says it would be a possibility. I wonder why the Celtics WOULDN'T do that. Nocioni would be a great piece for them.

Oh please let it be true

Awesome. Forever and always we can refer to trading for, and immediately waiving them "Casselling them", or "A Cassell".

haha I'm for it.

I'd also like to get Tony Allen, I'm a big fan of his. But I wouldn't like all 3 of those guys hanging around a year and a half either. :(

Hey, the Celtics owe us for helping them with that whole Cassel thing right? :p

Big a good move for the Cs, and we might be able to compelte the single most active trade dealing in league history singlehandedly. Let's do it!

Onyl thing from the C's perspective is thye might miss Tony Allen. But if Starbury is cut loose and comes to town as well, there you go. they will lose a bit of defense, but that's it.

Hope there's something to this. Need to take any opportunity to unload Nocioni! Getting two young guys (Big Baby and O'Bryant) would be decent, however limited they are.

looks like the Celtics would be short 1 roster spot if they did this. We could even have an "agreement" to cut a guy they still like (like Davis) so they can resign him for minimum $$. Is that still allowed?

god please let this happen. 3 hours left. And if they met the lakers in the finals I'm sure nocioni can rough up Kobe a little :)

I'm for it. Wouldn't be exciting necessarily but it would be good to get out from nocioni's contract (unfortunate that GP brought in a contract that already needs to be gone). Nocioni is the perfect player for boston. Maybe O'Bryant could be something.. he was a lottery pick, 22 years old (C's and PG's take the longest to develop traditionally), full size, and has spent time with KG and a great celtic locker room.. worth a shot at least.

From Amick:

I just got off the phone with Andres Nocioni. He came off as a very affable guy, which is exactly what Bulls beat writer KC Johnson of the Chicago Tribune told me to expect. In short, he says he's packing in Chicago and waiting for his flight directions from the Kings. There has been some question from folks around the league as to whether the Kings would move Nocioni before today's deadline, but it's looking like he's here to stay. Things can always change and sources around the league say quite a few teams have interest - and, yes, that includes Boston (a comment below alluded to it) - but the Kings seem to really like what he can add.

If that offer is on the table and Petrie doesn't do it because he like what Nocioni can add....
haha you never know.. I still like GP though and don't think people should be calling for his head (not saying you were). He is a superb drafter and has been hampered by the maloofs/poor talent in recent years.. if we were to fire him there would almost assuredly be an Adelman like effect in a few years.

Well to be fair Geoff is a genius, and therefore will need at LEAST two years to properly "evaluate" Noc before he can consider doing anything. Remember the true mark of all true genius is to be slow and pedantic, lack insight, fail to plan, and fail to seize opportunity.

I can't believe we're in extreme cost cutting mode, shedding people left and right, and the one guy who our front office seems to believe is worth retaining is a 29 year old small forward on the decline.

The Kings...where unbelievable happens

Petrie has done more wheeling and dealing in the past 72 hours than anyone could have foreseen. I think it's pretty clear he's pulling the trigger on anything that gets rid of deadwood, makes room for kids, saves money and doesn't threaten our draft pick. I'm pretty impressed; I'm sorry some of you are just never satisfied...

If Petrie manages to unload Nocioni in the next few hours I"ll be certainly be impressed. However, every indication is that either the front office really wants Nocioni, in which case they're insane, or all the deals have been made solely with financial considerations in mind. If it's followed up by a brilliant summer where we use the cap space, great. If the Maloofs sit on the savings we'll officially become the Indians from Major League, only it's not funny.

Well, if the Kings want to move him they should say, "Hell yeah we want to lose this declining 29 year old small forward with a ridiculous contract?" Of course they're going to send out the message that they think he's worth retaining.

Making moves in itself shouldn't impress anyone. The Miller/Salmons deal does nothing except save a few dollars for the Maloofs.

I think it's funny he's getting credit for "not threatening our pick". He's not supposed to, have we got to the stage where we're glad he doesn't screw up?

Anyway, it will take more than trading for no reason to impress me. He has no forseight. The fact that he likes what the 29 y/o on a terrible contract will do for us is testimony to that (who BTW, is occupying a space on front of Greene and possibly Thompson).

Yeah, I'm hoping it's just the party line to boost his value, and Sam has certainly been spoonfed some serious BS in the last 24 hours (i.e. the rumored New Jersey trade)

Call me a skeptic but why do the Celts do this trade? Allen is a good player on a dirt cheap contract. I know he's injured but he's still a good player on a cheap contract. And they need Big Baby because their other option is Leon Powe. And Scalabrine is a great locker room guy. Is Noc going to give them all the things that the three of them give? No.
