I don't see why we traded for him. Very average quickness. (It really shows on defense.) Not a great passer. Ok shooter. Yes, he does hustle, I'll grant him that. But his biggest accomplishment is taking minutes away from the younger guys, like Greene. Until Greene can make a legit claim for the three, we need a three on this team nearly as much as pg.

In this draft, we need extreme quickness at the 1,2 and 3. (I'm including the 2 because Martin may be quick on offense, but he's pitiful on defense.)

This whole idea of taking minutes away from Donte Greene has gotten beyond silly. Nocioni has been a pleasant surprise, IMHO. And from what I've witnessed from the fans at Arco, they appreciate his hustle and effort and willingness to do more than just play matador to opponents on offense.

Until Greene can make a legit claim for the three? I don't think there's any kind of guarantee that will ever come to pass, especially if he continues to park outside and lob bricks at the hoop... At least Noc will drive inside on occasion.

I am much more impressed with Andres Nocioni at this point than Donte Greene.

Everyone drank the Nocioni cool aid when we first traded for him, and he played well the first few games .. and now hes back to normal.

He is who he is .. bigger Cisco with slightly better defense and worse shot. A hustle player who is a good team guy ( when the team is winning ) and the perfect 6th man. Not big enough to be a PF and not quick enough to be a SF .. A team that starts him at either spot probly isnt going anywhere..

We do need a SF of the future, but because of the 'log jam' I dont see it as a immediate need ... Greene could be that guy... I guess time will tell.

Andres Noccini makes dumb plays at inopportune times, seems to get himself in trouble for a veteran when he should show more saavy. But obviously he is light years ahead of Donte Green, who has been a BIG disappointment to me. Just plays dumb. Seems lost and confused, and overmatched. Has had plenty of minutes to show something.

Is it known whether the Kings traded for him more out of necessity of cutting salary for next year at the expense of adding salary in 2010 or because they just liked Nocioni that much?

Trade Nocioni

I really don't think it matters one way or the other I say before the draft we either trade him for a pick to clear up some cap space, or we trade Garcia. We have a log jam at SF and although Greene hasn't show as much promise as we'd like he's still a better talent than Garcia and Nocioni and with real minutes he can produce like the game he started against the Hornets where he shined.

Nocioni is a really strong player, He does create problems on both sides of the ball. We traded for him strictly to get rid of Miller so Hawes & Thompson can play, thats it.

I have no problem with our roster other than our point guard and maybe move Nocioni to a back up even cisco and bring in a great defensive SF, from somewhere

And when the dust settles, I think that's exactly what he will be for this team. Heart and hustle with defense and energy off the bench.

I said it when the trade first happened and I'll say it again...

I made a trade thread, Miller for Tyrus Thomas being the meat and potatoes of it...And I got hit with criticism pretty harshly (which is fine, thats what the trade forums are all about)...But I can only imagine how badly I'd get flamed if I suggested a Miller AND Salmons for Noc trade.



I'd like to hope there were no better deals out there, because that one was pretty bad. Especially considering the amount of interest both Salmons and Miller were drawing from many teams. I just seems kinda like a firesale move, and honestly, Salmons was a good contract...He didnt need to be "firesold" off.

They sure sounded like they liked him. And they still sound like they like him. I just can't figure out why.

I like Noc. Think he could have a role on a winning team. He;s got fire and comeptitiveness, and that's sometimes worth more than soft passive talent. But I think keeping him or not has to depend on whether we are going to try to turn it this offseason or not (it also depends on whethe ror not he has grown so sour on us in such a short time that we feel we have to move hiim). If we are going to try to turn it ths offseason, then I think he has a role as the competitve veteran leader type. you always need a couple of thoise around, even in a youth movement. And since he plays just as well off the bench, he does not have to get int eh ay of anybody unless we are idiots (which of course we may be). but if we are really going to hang on and go 100% youth and hope ot nab another high pick next year, then its hard to see Noc standing for that, and hard to justify that kind of salary for a guy who does not fit, is actively in the way, and hwo's goals are baltantly at odds wiht our own.

As of right now I think Nocioni has been a pleasent surprise. I havent seen the same sort of hussle out Greene, who has just become a chucker at this point.

Nocioni is what he is -- he's a hustle role player. He's tough, doesn't back down from anyone, and plays with intensity. Those are good qualities to have on your team. He's the guy you bring in off the bench when your starters are sagging because he's going to get after them just as much as the coach is. However, he's also not going to get any better than he already is. Donte Greene is a basketball baby. Even before he was drafted it was clear he needed another year in college. Obviously he's nowhere near where Nocioni is as a player right now. But this is a team that's won 16 games all year. If you can't find minutes to develop your young players when you're a 16 win team, when are you ever going to find minutes for them? We didn't need Nocioni in our rotation this year -- we needed to take our lumps and get the kids as much experience now, in a lost year, as we possibly could. Thompson and Hawes were given a lot of rope this year and they both had ups and downs. They also got better throughout the course of the season.

Actually, I would have been equally okay with Greene staying in Reno all year and continuing to light up the D-League. He's not ready for the NBA anyway -- get a coach down there in Reno to teach him defense and smack him around a little every time he launches a three or watches a rebound go by him and then give him 35-40 minutes a night to learn through his mistakes. But bringing him up to Sacramento and stashing him on the bench all year so Salmons and Nocioni can lead us to a last place finish made no sense.
