Well its looking like maybe things could be looking up after we draft somewhere in the top 3.

ouch! well... i'd say all thats left is to surprise people... however unlike what some of the kings players are saying, i think the season will be alot like whats happening in the preseason. No defense, Awesome for spurts Offense, No rebounding, Beno and Garcia being constantly injured, and alot of loses...

on the upside to this season. Kevin Martin might make the All-Star team. Brad Miller might continue to increase his trade value, and with the looks of things so will Kenny Thomas, who should be our first PF off the bench for the first half of the season. Plus we will officially be the Atl Hawes of the west coast, after we draft another lottery pick, plus a late first round pick that the Rockets gave us.

This is what people wanted. They wanted to start the rebuild, and with a rebuild comes a price. I think what we should look for is how the team improves through out the year. All things being equal, the team should preform better in the second half of the year. If not, then we need to look at Reggie and his coaching staff.

The Kings are a couple of years away from being serious contenders. There are going to be growing pains. I just hope everyone is patient and understands this is not going to happen overnight.

One last thought. There are two kinds of coaches. The coach that takes a team and makes it conform to the type of style the coach wants. Then there's the other type of coach that looks at his talent and comforms the style to the talent he has. By and large, the second type is the more sucessful of the two. I'm not sure where Reggie fits in just yet.

I think it's a good sign that the team is trying to establish a foundation of young players to build from this time instead of patching holes with free agency signings. That's the only way to really establish a new identity. While there may be more losing this season than in the past few, it comes without the feeling of dread that our key players are getting older and more fragile and our cap space is maxed out. If we get an exciting player in the draft this year to add to our current young nucleus, we'll be ready to re-evaluate what the team's needs are when the cap space comes in 2010. In the meantime, young players are fun to watch and we've got a lot of them. I'm looking forward to watching a lot of games this season, win or lose. We're still a long way from being the Atlanta Hawks of the West, even if we do have Shelden Williams.

Serious contenders in two years? Really? We'd have to make some awesome picks in the draft.

I think were just like the Hawks... although the Hawks were all about 6'7 in height... including Williams...LOL!....

What i meant was, is that like the Hawks we are gonna be REAL, REAL, YOUNG, after next years draft! we lose Williams/Douby but then have 2 first round picks! that makes it... Kevin Martin, Garcia, Hawes, Thompson, Greene, 1st round pick, and a 1st round pick! Not to mention a good chance we could resign B. Brown! plus Beno is the same age as Garcia. so all together thats 9 players there!

Obviously I think we've done a much better job drafting for more than one position... the Hawks were until the last year made up of SF's and SG's... Al Horford was the break thru pick! and then adding Bibby gave them a true PG... LOL!...

We have been more balanced, and so sure we wont actually be the Hawks but man were gonna be REAL YOUNG!

Hey, the cups either half empty or half full. You can choose, matters not to me. I had to pick a number and a couple of years sounded possible. I certainly didn't mean for the championship, but to make noise in the playoffs. And to make noise is to show future probablity.

Of course, it all depends on the development of our young players and who we might aquire in free agency in two years, or maybe in the next offseason. If all goes well, along with the continued weakening of some of the teams in the west, its possible.

Being possible doesn't mean a sure thing. I can't predict the future any better than you can. I see no emotional gain in being pesimistic, so why not be optimistic until proven otherwise. Thats my choice. I'll leave your choice to you.:)

I'm with you, bajaden. It's much more fun to be optimistic!

Now, pass the salt and slice another lime, okay?

The most interesting thing out of the whole thing is hearing Chad Ford’s (NBA Dish: ’08-09 Preview) audio comment. The last line “at the end of the day I think the Kings will challenge Oklahoma City Thunder to be the worst team in the NBA.”

I also really like his other comment about chemistry; “if they’re going to win any games this year there have to be with chemistry.” If we can rely on one another – pass the ball, play defense and not do everything ourselves, then we put ourselves in a good position, if not, then we’re probably going to be blown out, even by the worst of teams.

Hopefully we’re going to grow a lot during this season. I really like to see Jason play some solid productive minutes after/during February. Hopefully Donte can put it together this season, but he just seems like he’s going to need a couple years and some really nice minutes in order to get his game settled.

thats fine, honestly we need 1 year of very high lottery .. look at the teams at the top now .. If we are going to be successful we will most likely need a top 5 pick on this team
Yes we do. Unfortunately, per some accounts (apologies, basing this off of what I read at BSPN, so feel free to disagree), this is going to be a weak draft. If we finally do end up with a top 5 pick, this might be a bad year for it.

In any case, it's good that we are finally in the rebuild. Few years too late, but good that everyone saw the writing on the wall.

On another note, seems like Reggie also seems to be buying into the idea of developing the youth. Hope owners and management have expressed to him that his future with the franchise depends on the development of the kids instead of the number of wins. Found this interview at the nba site. Not sure if it has been posted yet

I've read its a pretty bad projected draft too....Oh well.

Methinks we're going to have at least 2 seasons with a pretty good amount of ping pong balls, so maybe the '10 draft class will have our future cornerstone in it.

BJ Mullens, Ricky Rubio, Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holiday, Demar DeRozan...

If we have a top five pick then I can say that one of those players will be in a Kings uni next year. I don't mind watching a year of the youngsters to get a pick like that. Next years draft is going to be as deep as this years.

Oh yah, anotehr name to watch potentially with our Houston pick is the Freshman PHENOM Ater Majok. Watch for him at UConn this year. The kid was VERY well coached coming up, and has the height, fundamentals, athleticism, coaching, nice kid, ect ectect.. Kid is like 6'10 and reminds me of a young Kevin Garnett.

Its a little too early to make a judgement on the talent level of the next draft. Gary already listed some players that could nice additions to who the Kings already have. I would have thrown Blake Griffin into that group also. Griffin probably would have been a top ten pick last year if he had stayed in.

The point is, that every year someone emerges out of nowhere to become a star eventualy in the NBA. College basketball is my thing. I probably watch over 200 games a year. I've never counted, but, my wife will tell you, its way too many. Gary who has his own site probably watches more.

This may be one of those drafts where there's, no one player that stands out above the others as the number one pick, but trust me, there's plenty of talent there. There aren't any guarantees. Last year Rose and Beasley stood out above the others, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Eric Gordon win rookie of the year. It's a crap shoot, and you always need a little luck.

Hopefully, but already making noise in the playoffs in two years seems like a bit of a stretch to me. I guess if we make a couple good draft picks and get a good free agent.

You can add Blake Griffin to that list. And possibly Hasheem Thabeet if he has another good year.

Not a fan of Thabeet (yet) but yes on Griffin.. A bit soft last year, but i don't think it will matter much when he makes it to the NBA. He will be good.

I love being an optimist when it comes the "my boys." All things work out for a reason. It won't be long before we are back in championship contention! The foundation is starting to be built, slowly but steady. I love the high lottery...

Reminds me a bit of '89 for us. We finally finally break out of the losing mode of always drafting #7 and get the #1...and it turns out to be a choice between Pervis Ellison, Stacy King, Danny Ferry, Sean Eilliont and Glen Rice. The last two turned out to be very good players, but given that The Admiral and Hakeem had gone #1 a couple of years earlier, and Shaq and then Webber a couple of years later...ouch. Still, if you are drafting let;s say int he Top 3, there is almost guaranteed to be a star level player there for you to draft. If you can just figure out who it is.

I think the 89 draft is one of the worst ever. I wanted Sean Eilliot, but knew in my heart that they were going to take Ellison. Such is life! However, I don't think next years draft will be that bad, depending of course on who declares. Ever since the influx of underclassmen and european players, the draft has been much richer in talent. The trick of course is making the right choice.
