NFL 2023-2024 Thread

Truth.

Think about this in basketball terms. The 60th pick in the draft, all of a sudden becomes a starter mid-way in his rookie year, dominates and then is expected to lead the 49ers to a superbowl the next season. Gets told he's a fraud if he struggles. Gets told he's carried by his weapons/coach if he plays well. He actually can't win with the media, it's insane.

20-5 record as a starter, with the 1 playoff loss him not having a functioning elbow for the entire game. Set 49ers passing records this year. Just showed vs GB that he can step up in crunch time and deliver a game-winning drive.

I don't know what the Niners org did to Sherman but he's as loyal as it gets despite only playing a few years here.

Agree, The Lions secondary do not look very good, and it will be a normal field with clear weather. Gibbs will have some big plays, but I expect the 49ers offense to put up 30+ pts and the Lions 20+.....and Goof is good for 1 pick along the way. QB mobility factor is a big relief this game for the 49er pass rush and LBs. I think there will be several sacks at least.

I saw an online rumor on Reddit last year that after Sherman's mental health crisis, the 49ers organization immediately reached out to him and extended their support and services even though he was no longer part of the team.

Even with those unconfirmed rumors, the 49ers and Sherman had an awesome relationship while he played with us. 3 great years where he was a locker room leader and we were contenders. Going into his final season with the 9ers, everyone knew it would be his last year with us. The organization was also very honest and up front with Sherman. It was a very positive and amicable split according to Sherman himself.

It seems like Sherman's love for the 49ers comes from his enjoyment as a 9er + our great FO.

Colin. A million times Colin. Colin got blacklisted for reasons that we won’t discuss, but him on a marginally talented team was still a starter at the end of his career. Dude wasn’t the problem with the 49ers. Those post-Harbaugh seasons were some of the least talented teams I’ve ever seen.
Sorry man, I gotta disagree with you on Colin.
Colin was his own worst enemy. He refused to do any classroom work to hone his skills. He only worked on himself physically so when the league inevitably figured him out, he was done. Kurt Warner offered to work with him and Colin himself turned him down. Dude had a million dollar arm and a $.5 brain.
I was a huge Colin fan. Dude had the potential to be an all time great but he refused to put any x-o’s work in. Exactly how he was at Nevada. He totally relied on his physical talent. Had nothing to do with what he did after football.

All I can say is that they better use more than 1 of their first 6 picks on offensive linemen.
Here we go.

4.29 forty - fastest CB in the 2024 draft-field. I dont know what his 100m is, and he's not highly rated, including poor tackling - but I'd take a later flyer on him on the 40 time alone with one of the later round picks - you can always practice technicque, tackling, reads and break-downs, and put on 12#s of muscle, but that kind of quickness, phewwww. You MUST, have outstanding makeup speed to be an elite cornerback to cover your mistakes in the NFL,, otherwise, forget it, TD. Also 6'1" is solid height. So many CBs in the NFL just resort to penalties and fail to locate the ball.

How the hell do the Niners still have this many picks when they traded so many away at the deadline for Young and Randy and are still paying for the CMC steal?
Here's where the picks come from, according to ninersnation:

Round 1: Own pick
Round 2: Own pick
Round 3: Own pick
Round 3: Compensatory pick (Jimmy Garoppolo)
Round 4: Own pick
Round 4: Cowboys pick (Trey Lance trade)
Round 5: Compensatory pick (Samson Ebukam loss)
Round 6: Compensatory pick (Jimmie Ward loss)
Round 6: Compensatory pick (Azeez Al-Shaair loss)
Round 7: Own pick
Round 7: Rams pick, via Broncos (Randy Gregory trade)

Kyle Shanahan is as good at acquiring and developing assets as he is bad at play calling with a big 4th quarter lead.
