And we’re going to lose because the defense was gassed and everyone’s going to forget Jim left like 17 points right on the field and this loss is directly on his shoulders.

Jimmy G is the Kings version of Buddy. Love him, hate him, can’t wait for him to be gone.

Shanahan needs to pull a Harbaugh and run with the kid over the vet, if he wants a chance of playing beyond the first round.

Little chance...he has forgone playing Lance which indicates they dont think he is ready which he probably isnt

There’s no way he’s worse than what Jim did today, and if he is oh well. He needs the time to learn and hopefully grow.

Lance wont get any playing time this season sans a garrapolo injury...shanahan has said as much. 49er now must win 1 of last 2 to make the wildcard

Yea, I’ve given up hope on Trey getting any meaningful minutes this year. Niners are going to make the playoffs, but will be bounced in the first round, because Jimmy can’t throw beyond 15 yards and can’t throw to the perimeter. Plus they have two backup corners starting.

and it’s stupid because we’re going to be bad again next year when Lance has essentially his “rookie” year. He’ll flash. He’ll also look like Justin Fields has looked at times. The fanbase will be insufferable reminiscing about Jim. Lmao

Was at the game. Super interesting to see the game live and how much hesitation Jimmy has on some of his throws, causing him to be late with his receivers. Missed Jennings in the slot at least twice where he takes a sack instead. The 2 picks were just utterly gross, basically just threw it to the other team and drastically shifted momentum. And there wasn't anyone within 20 yards of Juice on the overthrow, he would have walked in for a TD.

The comp % and yards look good, but lordy he single handily cost them that game. Defense outside of the AJ Brown TD (which I told my brother, "Oh ****, AJ Brown on an island"), was excellent and played more than well enough on the road for us to get a win.

Garrapolo is a C+/B- QB in the NFL.....he's one of those QBs who requires blocking and time to be effective, somewhat like Phillip Rivers, but I dont think he's even as good or accurate as Rivers really was (who wasn't a top QB either). I think Garrapolo's core problem is he often holds the ball until he thinks he's sure the receiver is open, but in doing so puts massive pressure on his OL to block for 4+ sec. When not open to his liking he panics and forces interceptions or takes horrible sacks. Once his main-line play is thwarted he gives up much too easily and doesn't even have the athletic ability to recover except on lucky occasion. He is a good backup, but at-best an average starter. Against good defenses he wilts and is unable to rise to the occasion on the whole. He occasionally has good or very good games usually because his offensive line does.

Lance on the other hand does have more tools than Garrapolo immediately - he can scramble, he has a better arm, he's much physically stronger and faster.. Main thing Lance does not come close to is the read ability Garrapolo owns, that comes with experience and more snaps. Thats gonna take a couple seasons. Garrapolo at least knows he must get the ball out and processes the game better at this point (with all the extra game-play experience). Lance has not learned that yet. This was one of Kaepernick's big problems as well.

I wish I could be confident that replacing Jimmy with Lance would make the team immediately better but I think they'd tank and drop out of the playoffs if that change was made this year.

So after another disappointing performance from our man Jimmy G, I can’t help but wonder where this team would be if we make the deal with the Lions instead of the Rams. I feel like Stafford would shine in this system, even more so than McVeys. Aside from a below average secondary, Niners defense is still good. We’re at least 12-3 with Stafford this year.

I think the drop off will come whenever they make the switch so it's delaying the inevitable one way or the other.

I really don’t get why so many people think there’s going to be this huge fall-off from Jim to Trey. It’s not like we’re the Packers and picked a guy to replace Rodgers. We’re replacing a guy who maxes out at average at best. A guy Shanahan actively avoids being aggressive with because he’s not good.

He’s going to have growing pains seeing as next season he’ll have played in 2 football games in two entire years, but there are going to be so many times when we see him do things Jim couldn’t even dream of doing.

Right now the 49ers secondary is worse than below average, they are bottom 5. Stafford has the same problems as Garrapolo,, but to a lesser degree - he holds the ball too long. He's also prone to interception. He has a cannon-arm, but he's proven nothing over the years. He's a bit of an upgrade to Garrapolo , but I dont think alot. Maybe worth an extra win or 2 at most if on the 49ers. The Rams are not any better than the 49ers with both teams at full strength. 49ers have a better run-game, receive core, and LBs. The DL and OLs are comparable, maybe Rams on OL and 49ers on DL slightly, while the Rams get the nod in the secondary and QB. Stafford wouldn't move the needle imo. He won't give either team a SuperBowl. Even with the so-called starters, the 49ers need better corners. Rams running game is no-where near their SuperBowl runner-up in 2018 that's their big deficiency this season. Losing Woods on their receiving core pulls them down to average . They are a very similar team to the 49ers. They will compete in the playoffs thanks to their defense.

A week or 2 ago I'd thought about this kind of thing (team mixing) - if you mixed the Chargers and 49ers you'd have an instant SuperBowl team, you'd have an instant contender, as each team strength complements the other teams weakness except for the DBs - which would still be average. If you mixed the Rams and 49ers it wouldn't be as complementary except for the secondary. It would instantly be the best defense in the NFL by a wide margin - it would be better than the 49ers last SuperBowl defense even, but the offense would only be only slightly better imo. Anyway this is just daydreaming.

This is true, once the poor competition in the league in NFC showed the 49ers had a shot at the playoffs, getting to the playoffs became more important than QB development. I actually agree with this - the objective in sports is to win the championship of play during the current season even if its a 1 in 100 shot for the 49ers putting it kindly.

Yes, Shanahan has had some games mostly in hand in which Lance should've gotten more playing time.....Jaguars, Rams, Falcons come to mind. That is on him. The big question is how much better a QB (if at all) will Lance be than his same draft-class peers. That's not as easy to predict. Mac Jones is the winner this year thanks in large part to coaching and team-makeup. He is a very efficient looking QB, and the Patriots OL have done a job in protection. I think the Patriots have clearly over-achieved this year - more power to em. As long as Belichek is head coach will be cheering their demise. I'd be surprised if Patriots get past the Divisionals though. They've had a successful season just getting into the playoffs.
