lol 30 why are so many people suddenly acting like this kid is a lousy scrub, not a highly regarded prospects a lot of teams outside of SF liked?

I think we've seen the last of Jimmy G as the QB. Call me a contrarian, but this is the perfect time to unleash Lance. His running, perimeter, and vertical passing will open up the running game. Opposing defenses were packing the defense, within 10 yards to stop the run and to dare Jimmy to pass it more than 15 yards up field or to the perimeter. Seahawks gave the league the perfect defensive strategy against Jimmy G. They know he'll throw to the middle (mostly on slats or crosses) so they would drop LBs into the middle or show safeties covering the perimeter or over the top then have a safety run into the middle. Jimmy would end up throwing 2 to 3 picks or near picks each game. Rinse, repeat. With Lance, they can't do that anymore.

I have a feeling there will be two "that's why we picked him" plays and about 30 "omg wtf no" plays.

And I'm sure Shanahan will throw out all the motion plays that get Deebo and Kittle their patented YAC so he can run Lance up the middle for 2 yards a carry.

Your'e right, Shanahan dumbed down play-structure is not beneficial for the offense precisely because the Texans will game-plan for Lance running specifically. Lance has tendency for contact that I think they're trying to break., rightfully (recall Cardinal goal-line hit)

Running can open up passing, but from Cardinal highlights, he needs to work on his touch and ball arc - in the cardinal game, balls had little arc, and receivers were having problems with catching. If you don't take a bit off the ball, evident in short to medium passes, receivers have some problems - reaction time to adjust to the ball suffers. He also needs to work on pocket footwork.

There was a nice Dolphins TD against the Saints with a reverse option - those kind of plays mixed in will help. Get the ball to Aiyuk.

Yeah it's those designed QB runs like he's Newton or Jackson that drive me crazy. He doesn't have the size nor physicality that those two have. Use his athleticism to avoid sacks, get to the outside or run when there's no one open in the passing game. Designing runs up the middle for him is pointless when you can hand it off to the RB for more efficiency.

Been watching bowl games. Smoke Monday from Auburn looks like a beast at safety. Don’t think he’ll be a first rounder. Would love the niners to get him in rounds 3-5.

Amazing how many college football defensive backs at small schools especially (in this case cornerback) missed by NFL scouts going undrafted. Then someone signs, eventually turns out better than many blue chip prospects and high draft picks. Take 25-year-old Houston Texans Tavierre Thomas who went to obscure Ferris State (upper Michigan) where racked up top Division II accolades at tiny school known more for its hockey team than football program. After bouncing around NFL with several teams now becoming known as dynamic coverage corner who made big splash this past Sunday intercepting San Diego Chargers Justin Herbert for potential game saving pick-six. Beware Trey (or JimmyG) don't throw without knowing where on the field this Sunday Tavierre is lurking.

Marcus Jones, from Houston, is going to be good. Plays bigger than his 5'8 size and is a dynamic return man.

I think he'll be there in rounds 2/3/4.

That's just a bad throw - a gift for Thomas, not mention Cook breaking off his route. Thomas did little for it but catch it. Herbert is a good QB but he sometimes forces throws.

Not to mention Herbert threw into triple coverage on that interception! I noticed the Texans smartly mixing coverage all game long from zone to nickel or even dime and Herbert seemed confused what they were in much of the game viewing mostly NFL RedZone and recaps. His arm is sensational but reading coverage seems like still a rookie at times. But maybe that's bad analogy because the actual rookie up against outplayed him to get the W.

Niners still favored -11.5 but line shrinking last few days.

49ers have a better defense than the Chargers - I think whoever starts for 49ers, its gonna be 40+ run plays today. I think there's a strong chance the game is in the teens or twenties. Guessing maybe 49ers 24-20 or something like that. If the 49es offense has a particularly bad day, they may lose. DB Thomas is no where near good enough to be on the field. They might as well call someone off the street instead of him.

TREY LANCE TIME BABYYYYYYYYYYY

For the record; I fully expect equal mix bad with good. Difference being an inexperience rookie is allowed these mistakes. A zero upside 30 year old isn’t.

Lance passes look like shot ducks

I would be more than happy to eat it sooner rather than later but I haven’t been feeling the kid since the beginning. Pretty much when on draft day everybody was all excited and then they dropped the “they got their man….his passing can use some improvement” I became quite skeptical that we got a franchise QB..atleast not one with any significant shelf life.
