I thought the 49ers might bring it together, but its clear they're gonna be lucky to be .500 this year. They look pretty close to the 2018 team with 4 wins. Defense totally dropped out (thanks to extensive injuries), and QB play is now a pretty big problem. Garoppolo at best looks like Tony Romo. He's way overpaid for his quality of play. He resorts too much to forcing long throws/threading the needle and should check-down alot more often - or the 49ers offense should run more quick passing plays. His scrambling is lower tier level - he runs a 4.95 40 which is poor in the NFL Many top tier QBs have good or great scrambling ability - it affords the Offensive line some mistakes. Its not vital, but its a deficiency. Injuries are too much and too early Last season they were very fortunate with injuries, and that's flipped on its head this year. They won't mail the season in yet, but today's game made the Eagles game look good.

The O-line has been so bad this year, it's hard to really fault any of our 3 QBs for failing to execute under constant pressure. We were on our way to a miraculous comeback last week with Beathard back there until McGlinchey folded on back to back plays to kill the drive. It is a little disappointing that Jimmy G hasn't looked markedly better than his initial 5 game run at the end of 2017 before he even had command of the offense, but by any metric he was an elite QB last year. His penchant for turnovers is the biggest issue he needs to work out but if he places just one throw a little better in the Super Bowl he'd already have a championship ring and we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
I'm about ready to write this season off too but that's because we have no Bosa, no Ford, no Buckner and Kinlaw isn't ready to carry the load himself yet. Returning 1 player from our defensive front line is a problem and that's before we even talk about Sherman getting older and more fragile and Witherspoon looking like a bust. The game was probably already out of reach at that point but that pass interference call on Witherspoon when Miami was backed up to 3rd and 10 at the start of the 4th quarter put the nail in it. The NFC West isn't getting any easier. Don't throw games or anything, but realistically we should be looking toward next year at this point and figuring out now how we're going to fix the O-Line and get some help in the secondary.

Mose and Sherm aren’t going to save a thing. The whole defense relied on the elite pass rush to make everyone look far better than they actually are.
They certainly wouldn’t have allowed 3 straight drives right down the field, but QBs are still going to be able to find openings... the whole defense was Buckner causing mayhem in the middle, causing rushed and panicked throws as the pocket immediately collapsed around them. With him gone it all would have gone to ****. Even totally healthy I still think they’d only be average at best. That’s how much Buck meant to everyone else.
