Next move extend Garcia?

Now that Beno has agreed our next move is whether to extend Garcia this summer.

So is he worth more or less then Beno?

Do you not extend and wait till he hits the restricted market next year?

I'm on the fence on this one. I think you let him prove another year before committing money to him.

Garcia has improved every year... overall he is a above average defender... he can shoot and he can play point when asked too... i say we do extend him but not give him Beno money...

Cisco's quite useful, and has the added benefit of either being a roleplaying starter, or playing just as well for a 6th man. His value is probably right in the same range with Beno, but obviously as this team has found out for years now, if we keep on signing middling players to middling contracts, both the cap and the roster gets clogged up with NBA debris.

I just don't know that what Garcia brings is quite unique enough to warrant an MLE-level offering. He's probably worth what Salmons is getting, a sub-MLE level $4-5 million given their relative equalness on the court. But the thing is, there's no shortage of SFs who are available to contribute, and I don't think it makes sense to have both Garcia and Salmons as MLE guys.

Either trade Salmons and stick Garcia in his place at the same price or keep Salmons and trade Garcia. But we can't keep signing mid-level talents to an MLE level salary. At some point we have to start focusing on building salary space for a superstar. Either Garcia or Salmons doesn't have a place in the long-term plans, better figure out which one.

Garcia is a damn fine player. Starting he averaged more than 17ppg. He is a good shooter, and a better defender than K-Mart. I actually wouldn't mind the future SG/SF combo to be Garcia/K-Mart. They compliment each other nicely. Not sure why the negative nancy above didn't want him. He didn't give any reasons. (Not you Nbrans)

Garcia offers a lot more than your run of the mill SF/SG. He can handle the ball, great team guy, take it to the rim, or shoot from outside, he is a decent defender, and has great anticipation when going for steals or blocking shots. Garcia is the type of tweener that when you lose him you realize (oh sh1t he WAS good for the team).

My guess is the Kings wait and see what becomes of Patrick Ewing, Jr. as a defensive dynamo off the bench. He may compliment Cisco or ........?? hmm. I think Cisco can becomes a 6th man of the year candidate if he keeps improving like he has.

I just wish he wasn't almost 27. He's one of my favorite players on the Kings and I hope we can keep him, but with his contract being up at that illustrious summer of 2010, who knows what will happen. If we can get him for a cheap extension, do it, but if not, forget it.

I'd say wait and see with Garcia. He's just an okay/decent player. Not really worth a lot of money to keep. Like somone else said, if he accepts 3 mil then okay.

When Garcia has his jumper going, he's a fun player to watch.

When he starts making that little 3 point gesture, and adds a little cocky scowl, that's what we need more of from our roster top to bottom to return to prominence.

As far as extending him, no thanks. Show me a little more first, then we'll talk.

As far as value to the development of the Kings, Cisco is way less important that signing a guy like Beno which lot of people are upset about.

There are those guys out there we have had like Mo and Barnes that could do that off the bench job for 2-3 million a year. I'd rather have Cisco but not for too much.

If García leaves the team, we will have a big problem....
And if a comet hits the earth tonight, all this is totally irrelevant. ;)

My point is simply that it's not time to have to make a decision about Francisco Garcia. He's not going anywhere right now.

Garcia isn't a problem we have to solve right now.
Maybe not to you, but I'm sure it matters to Cisco. It matters to all the drafties of his year.

This is the first chance he has at an extension. It also may show him how much the Kings are committed to him in the future. So yes this is when it starts to get addressed.

It's not about showing Garcia anything on July 1.

There are other problems the front office is working on. As you said yourself, this is the FIRST CHANCE he has at an extension. But it's not the last chance TPTB have to address it.

Just because there's been no public information about an extension doesn't mean it's not being discussed privately.

To everything there is a season...

July 1 isn't a problem. Kevin Martin didn't sign his extension until the end of August last year. Right now I think we should be trying to see what we can get for Artest. It might even include Garcia in the right deal.

But this isn't a major deal to me. I guess I'm just in the mood to argue.

Sorry all.

:p

I'm not sure I see the point of this discussion. The Kings don't have to do anything. Garcia has improved every year, so we wait and see if there's more impovement. If so, let him become a restricted free agent. We can match any offer if we decide he's worth it, or not if we decide he's not worth it.

If we trade Artest, and depending on what we get in return, could add or diminish Garcia's value. I personally like Garcia. I think he brings a toughness onto the court thats been missing for a while. So I'm all for keeping him. At the right price. Which will be determined by him.

So Cisco, go forth and make yourself valuable.
