Next move extend Garcia?

I'm not sure I see the point of this discussion. The Kings don't have to do anything. Garcia has improved every year, so we wait and see if there's more impovement. If so, let him become a restricted free agent. We can match any offer if we decide he's worth it, or not if we decide he's not worth it.

If we trade Artest, and depending on what we get in return, could add or diminish Garcia's value. I personally like Garcia. I think he brings a toughness onto the court thats been missing for a while. So I'm all for keeping him. At the right price. Which will be determined by him.

So Cisco, go forth and make yourself valuable.

Well there is always the thought, ala what we did with Peja, of trying to sign a guy just before his old deal runs out, and before his value gets too high. But I think that is a strategy mostly reserved for star level guys, not midlevel/roleplayer types.

I have my +/- with Garcia. When he's on and producing at his best, he brings a lot of energy and tenacity to the floor. But when he starts passing up open layups and making that un-needed extra pass in the lane or starts jacking up every 3-pt opportunity he can find, he starts to irk me.

I think Garcia still needs to realize his true potential. He's pretty quick for his size and we see that on the defensive end. I'd like to see him improve his mid-range game as well as his driving ability.

Theus is very high on him, so now that Theus has gotten his shoes wet in head coaching an NBA team, maybe we'll see more function out of Garcia. If Garcia doesn't stay on par or improve his game this season, I'd say let him go.

This isn't a relevant question at this point. Let's see how he develops this year, and worry about when there is an actual decision to be made.

Of course the Kings should resign him. He plays D, clutch outside shooter, point forward in a pinch, doesn't mind coming off the bench, coachable, passionate about the game and winning, team oriented. What the heck is not to like?

For say $3 mil a year, why not? You need role players, and I like his energy as a 6th man.

We need to get rid of older contracts, not young talent. And given the amount of swingmen available, I don't think he will be too expensive to retain.

I think this is another one of those situations where Artest has yet again impacted the future. If (when) Artest leaves, we'll get an even better chance of seeing what Garcia has to offer. I see nothing wrong with him as the 6th man - I think he may excel in that role. Depending upon who we get from Artest, he (Garcia) may fit in nicely with the rest of the team. No need to move on without seeing what he can do during his third year.
As someone already said, Garcia would be a restricted free agent, and Salmons is already on the books, so I see no harm in riding out the contract.

The thing I see in Garcia, and I may simply be off-base, is a guy who has flashes of brilliance, then extended periods of marginal schreck. When he seems to be playing really well, I generally anticipate an errant pass at precisely the wrong time or a silly foul that sends a winning game south.

Perhaps I am just not watching carefully, or maybe he is still inexperienced, but I think he lacks consistency. Lack of consistency may be what often separates great players from chronic role players.
