Now that the arena deal is off, it's pretty much a no-brainer that the Kings aren't going to stay. I'm not going to any games next year and I hope the arena is almost completely empty for all home games next year....I'm done with this team! I can't believe the owners did this to us...
How do they move, if the league doesn't let them move? Your making big assumptions. You don't sound like much of a KingsFanatic to me.

Their really are only two options here. The fanbase either abandons the team, forcing the Maloofs to sell and hoping the new owners do not relocate or keep going to games and hope the BOG never approve a relocation and eventually the Maloofs are forced to sell.

i have to say that i am glad you are not at the negotiating table...

Did you see the list of demands by the maloofs? Why in sam hell would you negotiate with guys making demands like that? Like the mayor said, their list of demands showed that they wanted this to fail. And like the comish said, if "a certain party" had been more forthcoming in the beginning we could have saved a lot of angst.

Fortunately, your not speaking for the rest of us. The only way to get a new arena isn't just to reopen negotiations with the Maloofs. How about letting them die a slow death at Power Balance or whatever the name is, because the league won't let them move. We eventually get a new owner, and then get a new arena.
How are you going to do that if you keep going to games? The Maloofs will continue to invest the minimal amount of capital required to make some profit.

I think the Maloofs next move is not to return to Arco next season. I think they are going the anti-trust route. Which explains Stern's careful comments today. No cooincidence that all these Anaheim related hired hands keep showing up. And Samueli is pulling the strings on all of this. Only question remains is will the league fight this or roll over under the threat?

Thats why it would have to be a complete boycott. I don't know if thats possible because most the fans at the arena probably don't even follow the day to day happenings of the Kings. That being the case filling the arena up is probably the most viable and effective way of the fans making any sort of difference.
If we had a total boycott, the Maloofs could plead that they're in an unattenable position, and the only way they can survive is to move the team. Fill the arena, and that argument is gone. All a boycott would do is give the Maloofs one more thing to add to their list as to why they should be allowed to move the team.

Stern admitted that the city and Johnson did everything that was requested on them. The Maloofs said they needed a new arena, and the city is willing to build them one under the conditions laid down by the league. Its the Maloofs that have walked away from that deal. Its the Maloofs that are the bad guys right now. Don't give the league any reasons to change their mind on that. All a boycott would do, is make you and the people that boycott feel better. It wouldn't help the situation.

I think if they move to anaheim, they should just combine the King and Clippers and call them the L.A. Sleaze. You could have the ultimate sleaze-ball-owned team... Donald Sterling + maloofs

Kevin Johnson was great during the interview. Said the city and the NBA have done everything they can, but the Maloofs still back out of a fantastic deal. Even if they renegotiate, what's to prevent them changing their minds again?

Fill the arena and the Maloofs continually point out their is no new arena and the city won't negotiate with them. What now? Who looks like the bad guy now?

Nothing more can be done. There is nothing to negotiate. I'm sorry, but the Maloofs won't relent on their demands. If you want the city to relent to disingenuous owners, that's your problem. Take off the blindfold and realize the Maloofs will not negotiate in good faith.

I hope you are not in support of the City funding a higher percentage of the cost to keep the team in Sacramento. If that's the case, I'm glad you're not at the negotiating table.
No one is suggesting that we renegotiate the deal. Were suggesting we lay siege to the Maloofs. We wait them out. If the league won't allow them to move, then eventually they'll have to either come back hat in hand, or sell. Your starting to sound like one of those opposing the new arena.

Not to mention, a boycott would be unfair to the players and team employees who have nothing to do with any of this. As fans we should show them that we still support them, Maloof bafoonery be damned. It will make a difference. Let David Stern and his lawyers play dirty if that's what they want to do. Our part in this is best kept open and transparent. Anti-Maloof chants and signs are fair game though. :)

But how do they stay without an NBA viable arena 3-4 yrs from now?
I think the position of the NBA is that there IS a plan for a viable arena. I know that they can't force out the Maloofs, but everything points to the Maloofs just wanting to pout until they get their way, and I doubt that will fly with the league. Sure, an arena can't be built yet, but I remain hopeful that the city can somehow point out that they should get to keep the kid in what is more and more looking like an ugly divorce.

While they continually invest minimally in the team to turn a profit? Even if their profit margin is small, they still have an NBA team and all the glory associated with it. I'm not ant-arena. I just don't have my head in the sand regarding scenarios (bleeding out owners) that have never come to fruition nor proven to be effective.

I thought KJ was fantastic as he discussed his and the city's perspective on things.

I also agree with his 3 scenarios:
1.) Same owner/Same Team
2.) New owner/Same Team
3.) New owner/new Team

I think the absolute worst thing that can happen is attendance to shrink to nothing, thereby giving the Maloofs the support they need to turn to the Relocation Committee to justify their desire to move. As long as attendance is good I don't think they will be allowed to leave, especially when you consider what the City just did to try and get a deal made.

However, I also am partial to a boycott of the Maloofs to show the fan's displeasure over what has taken place.

So here is what I think should happen.

I believe that someone should organize as complete a boycott as possible for a single game.
Make a lot of noise, make the failure of the Maloofs as owners the central theme and black-out a single game.

It makes the statement that needs to be made, with-out giving the Maloofs the ammo they need to say that the City of Sacramento is unable to viably support an NBA franchise.

I also agree with someone's suggestion that people should begin to reach out to sponsers of other MSE events to withdraw sponsorship.

You need to do all you can to make life difficult for the Maloofs with-out giving them things they can use against you when they go to the Relocation board.

you wouldn't want to. but catering to the maloofs' list of demands isn't the only way to secure a new arena. this battle has become completely political, and if i'm kevin johnson, i continue to foster the good will of the nba, because a relocation committee will not approve a move to anaheim when a perfectly acceptable arena deal--in which the nba would front all of the maloofs' share of the cost--was just rejected by the maloofs. this isn't seattle. this isn't even new orleans. this is an entirely new level of sabotage on the part of the maloofs that would harm the sacramento region in a way that the nba simply does not want to be responsible for. so i invite the maloofs back to the table, while insisting they back off many of their demands. i understand that everybody is really emotional right now, but the maloofs have got nowhere to go. the kings are in sacramento for the entirety of next season, which is just more time for kevn johnson and the city of sacramento to build its case, because the maloofs have been called. we've seen their hand, and, after the board of governors meeting, the entire league has seen their hand. they're holdin' nothin' but ace high, and that won't be nearly good enough to win this battle. eventually, the entire situation will just become too untenable for them, and they'll be pressured into selling by circumstances rather than by overt force. what are they going to do? where are they going to relocate to turn an actual profit? kansas city? yeah, i can see the dollar signs from here (/sarcasm). the entire reason the maloofs settled on anaheim was because franchise value would increase in such a market, which would undoubtedly make a sale of the team much more tenable than it is in sacramento. but who here really believes that the nba is going to approve a move to anaheim after everything that's happened since the last time the maloofs attempted to force that move? i certainly do not.

The Maloofs are going broke. Its just a matter of time. The only thing that can save them is moving to Anaheim. Why the hell do you think they want to move there? I'm not giving up on my team and the city, just to appease your anger over the Maloofs. This is not now, and never has been about the Maloofs for me. Its about the team, which was here before the Maloofs. I'd be content with filling the arena, but having everyone in the arena boo the Maloofs everytime they showed their face there. I'd boo them the entire game without stopping. But I'm not going to give the league a reason to let them move.

The Maloofs did it squarely with middle finger to everyone - fans, city, NBA, etc. But it's really just more of the long history of Sacramento despair and life on edge of disaster. The Kings only got here from Kansas City by hook or crook when a small local developer nearly single handed purchased the team and built a barn for NBA basketball for couple years. Then he went virtually bankrupt building ARCO II on the cheap and not long after sold the franchise to an LA businessman. A few years later the Kings were begging for a huge financial bailout from Sac city council to survive - which they miraculously got.

But why so much never ending hardship, leading to todays total debacle? It's basically because Sac city (and county) has very little operating money, has never really had much to hang its hat on in the way of major private biz formation. As a sidebar, Sac losing two major Air Force bases, McClellan and Mather was devastating economically in early/mid-90s, to this day. Unlike San Antonio, Orlando, and several other small market NBA cities that have LOTS of funds spawned by pro-biz attitudes, tourism, Fortune 500 headquartered companies (San Antonio has all that plus several large military bases) - it all contributes to a huge tax base for economic development.

Bottom line: Until sleepy Sacramento unleashes private business and pro-development attitudes to create a long-term sustainable tax base it will be a sorry, pathetic cowtown. Thanks for your heroic efforts KJ in scrounging up $255M but the problems in Sactown are so deep and entrenched I don't think any one person can overcome the sad state of affairs.

I think they are going broke either way. But if they move to Anaheim George has a backdoor deal with Samueli for some other venture.

How come every idiot who calls into Grant's show starts off by asking "How are you doing Grant?" I swear that puts me on life tilt.

One second:
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Alright...

HERE WE STAY!!!!

So whats your suggestion? Give up!!!! Thanks but no thanks. This has nothing to do with having my head in the sand. Its about taking all the positives we have on our side and using them to our advantage. You want to give up, fine. Just stay out of my foxhole.

So regarding the emails that Mayor Johnson said he never got.
Who's lying? David Stern says they gave them to the city. Mayor Johnson says he never got them. The Maloofs actually produced them at the meeting. Who the heck is lying? Did the NBA screw us? Did the city misplace them and now he's lying?
