With all due respect, you don't live in Sacramento, so this is for us locals who do. I would love to have the Sacramento Athletics! Then, we can get back onto a project to get another NBA franchise somewhere down the road - plus NFL, NHL, etc. Heck, I'd love to see us build up Sacramento State into first class NCAA Division One top tier - at least similar to what they have at Fresno State of all places.
Not cool, dude. There are a LOT of people in Northern California who travel to Sacramento. My family is FIFTH generation Sacramento - the fact I currently live in the middle of Plumas Forest doesn't change that.

EDIT: If you seriously want to talk about the possibly of the A's moving to Sacramento, I think it would be better to start a thread in the General forum. This thread is an ongoing discussion of the NBA/BOG.

I don't want 'another' NBA franchise, thanks.

I don't either but sometimes reality is not fair.
If the Maloofs do the inevitable and uproot to Anaheim, their self-proclaimed promised land, I can't and won't EVER follow another NBA team again...or the NBA in general. The intimate relationship the Kings have had with us Sacramentans, myself included, these past 28 seasons can't be duplicated by a facsimile. For 28 of my 38 years on this Earth, the only brand of basketball I follow is the Sacramento Kings. The NBA will unfortunately be dead to me...and that hurts my heart to say that.

Note: I split off the portion of the discussion that was becoming more about the MLB into a new thread. Sorry for any confusion. :)

While I understand your feelings, and once felt that way myself, I have to think that part of what has made the Sacramento Kings unique and special is the Sacramento fan. If we did get another franchise down the road, I would welcome them with open arms. I have to believe part of that "only brand of basketball" is in the environment we, the fans, create.

I am so angry. But I am angry at the Maloofs, not my team. I am so devastated right now. This cannot be good for the NBA, which has to make other team owners angry. A moderate size city, with the difficulty of funding anything in California and in the midst of the worst economic downturn many people have known, still manages to come up with a very fair deal for an arena, only to have selfish, stupid owners stab the city in the back? That's a PR nightmare for the league.

Hopefully the BOG never approves relocation for the Kings. If the Maloofs are having such financial difficulty and can't afford a decent team and can't move, maybe they will be forced to sell. All I know is I hate the Maloofs, at this point. However, I won't take that out on my team and the guys that go out there and play. They've done nothing wrong and aren't responsible for what the Maloofs do or have done.

Kingster

Hall of Famer
I'm not as knowledgable as others on this board about all the dynamics, but I still see more reasons why this could end up favorably at the end of the day. The key question seems to be the willingness of the NBA to go along with the Kings in a move to somewhere. Well, unequivocally, we know that's not going to happen in the near term. Stern made that clear. Moreover, we know that the Maloofs are initiating legal shannigans that threaten an anti-trust move. That tells me that the Maloofs are not confident in their ability to move elsewhere. They obviously don't think the NBA is going to go along; hence the threat. Stern also made comments that he wasn't exactly worried about the Maloof's initiating anti-trust action. Then, of course, we know the NBA wants Sacto to have a team. They know the fan support. They know that we were ready to go with this arena. It would be a terrible pr black eye for them to allow the Maloofs to move the team. Lastly, Stern and the owners know what incredible clowns these guys are. I firmly believe they'd love to get rid of them. Well, the way to get rid of them is just ignore them at this point. Just let them have a lousy team, with the knowledge they are never going to be able to win. If you play a game and know you're never going to have a chance to win, eventually you're not going to want to play anymore. Anyway, there are probably some good reasons to take the more pessimistic road, but given the choice between the two, I'll take the positive road. I think there is still hope.

This will obviously alienate a ton of fans, so attendance has got to take a hit. So even if they made money this last year, next season has got to look like a losing proposition. I don't know how long that will take to keep them from making minimum payroll, though.
Much like the A's, they probably plan on keeping payroll low enough that revenue sharing and whatever sales they get can pay the bills. Then they wait for the mood and situation is right to propose another move.

It's not like KJ can round up the horses again to stop another move. That's one of the reasons he is so pissed. He can't go to the city, the politicians and businesses to work on another deal because there is no faith in the Maloofs. It's been destroyed.

I've given these jerks the benefit of the doubt for years........

Don't know if I can ever be a KINGS fan again with the current ownership.

Sad.
You can be a fan of the Kings and hate the Maloofs. Believe me, you won't be the only one. There are a lot of us who will never trust them again under any circumstances and would love to see them kicked to the curb like a dried-up pile of poodle poop. But we still love our team. The Maloofs can take away our arena but they cannot take away our love of our team.

Kind of where I am at. They have ruined this franchise because they are not financially viable and have no business
Owning a professional team, yet are to dense/stubborn to see otherwise.. Meanwhile there are people sitting in the wing with the means to run this franchise and run it well. This is just very unfair to true Kings fans. I really tried to give these guys the benefit of the doubt because I thought they were decent guys and part of me felt a little sorry for them. Those days are gone. F*ck these disingenuous d bags.
