This exactly!! People talk like he plays 40 games a year he's only had 2 injury years the rest he's played all 82 besides the 74.
nets:
incoming: greg monroe, derrick williams
outgoing: lopez, ak47
sac: ak47 nets 1st pick
outgoing: trade exception, derrick williams
pistons:
in: lopez
out: greg monroe
yeah we're not getting lopez in this trade but if the nets continue on their path we might get a lotto pick. lopez is risky imo bc of his health. not sure if this is doable w/ the trade exception.
On February 20, 2002, the Celtics traded Joe Johnson, Randy Brown, and Milt Palacio to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Tony Delk and Rodney Rodgers.
a young joe johnson for tony freaking delk and rodney rogers. hindsight would you do that trade again?
If the Nets are tearing things down by trading the likes of Lopez et al, why would they trade their pick? The pick would be the last to go (and may have already been dealt to Boston?)
The Nets notoriously have no picks, like ever. Billy King has destroyed them in almost parody fashion. I believe they don't have full control of their first round pick until 2019. Two are traded, and the other two are on "right to swap" deals with good teams And I think they only have 1 2nd rounder left over that span too. I've never seen anythign like it. Its largely what the Stepien rule was designed to prevent, but King found a way around it (no doubt at the behest of the impatient Russian oligarch who though he could just buy an NBA title).
Anyway, that';s why the Nets say they aren;t goign to rebuild -- they physically cannot They will literally gain no benefit of being bad for another 4 years, soi they have to try to waddle on and do what they bcan to acquire young assets other ways. tat's also why if they are truly movign on from Lopez a young lottery pick SG might appeal. Its the only way they can acquire young talent for years.

Wed, Dec 10
Brook Lopez (back) will miss Wednesday's game vs. Chicago as expected.
Advice: He is expected to sit out the entire week after an MRI revealed that he had a lower back strain. Lopez can't seem to catch a break as he has been of the most injury-prone players in the league. Owners will have no choice but to bench him until we get a positive report...
Dude, he's injured RIGHT NOW! And here's the write-up from Yahoo fantasy:
His recent past as far as injuries is not encouraging. The fact it's now a back problem is very troubling.
It's hard to say what the issue is without speaking to his doctors or seeing any of the radiologic reports (MRI). The reports I have seen have diagnosed him with a sprain. If there had been a more serious injury that required, say, surgery it likely would have been on the MRI report. Since there wasn't any report of an anatomical problem requiring any procedure, his sprain will likely be managed with conservative care, I would think. It could linger for a few months but there's nothing I have seen to indicate that it is any more serious than that.
Welp, after tonight it's almost a certainty we go after him.

If I thought Lopez could stay healthy, you bet. But I don't think that and I don't want to be another team that traded young assets for damaged goods.
You just called Nik an asset. Half the teams in the league would probably just leave him sitting on the curb if you drove up and dropped him off right in front of their arenas for free. Well not free, he's got the contract of a lottery player. The production thus far of a Euro player.
Meanwhile Brook is dominating an East "All Star", dubious as that distinction may have been.
I take it back our prized target Plumlee is only getting 8mpg looks like Young took all his minuets. Watch then trade Collison/landry for DWill/Plumlee
I don't mind this at all. Williams could turn into something like what happen to Pau Gasol in Chicago. DMC > Lopez and Rudy > JJ
Lopez is the only one that would work for us... and even then there will be question marks about his role and his first next to Cousins.
Nets will be looking for cap relief, young players and picks.
Problem we don't have our 1st rounder and until Chicago gets that pick we cant trade any of our future 1st rounders.
Williams is our biggest expiring contract and will have work. besides that we could add Hollins.
The salary filling vet role would go to JT or Landry, at this point.
The key will be a young player, it's going to have to be Ben or Nik, Ben has taken a huge leap forward and I think so a extent becomes untouchable because of his potential to be a two way SG the Kings have been looking for years. (Thank god that Josh Smith trade didn't go through) Nik has great potential too, but we would certainly have to give him up in a deal.
2 years of Lopez at 15 million ? I don't think it would work for him or us but I wouldn't be upset if we tried to pull it off.
Of course his health has to be taken into consideration, and the fact that he could just walk after this coming season, and the remote possibility that he wouldn't even play for you next season since he as a player option on next season.

My post was from December when nik was a rookie two months in and Lopez was once again injured.
Actually, Brook can't even be traded right now because of that player option. He'd have to opt in to that (presumably June 30th) in order for a trade to be done, and then there would be a whole year, at which point he could walk. (The post you're responding to is from December, so the timeline has definitely changed since then.)
Whether a trade for Lopez would be a good call, I don't know. He's good when healthy, as you say, but that health is a question mark. Furthermore he has demonstrated that when he's put next to a good rebounder (e.g. KHump) that his rebounding takes an inordinate hit. And he's not the defender we need. Now his brother, on the other hand...
