NCAA March Madness (merged)

I was having a real nice day save WVU until this last round. I went 0-3 on this batch to bring me back to earh, but they are all pretty meaningless and nobody else picked them and I like lower seeds winning. So all good.

Wisconsin hurt me. Now, my second nights score put me back in the pack where I belong. I knew the first night was just a tease. :p

Two fantastic finishes. Had missed 3 games through 24, then missed 3 of the last 8. Honestly i could care less, what a great way to spend a day off! Freakin love march, time to go get a drink.

The Midwest bracket killed me. Lost 4 games there. Then the East cost me 3 of my other 4 losses. I am proud to say that I was 100% correct on the West bracket and only missed 1 in the South.

Wow, the midwest bracket blew up with upsets. 4-8 all went down.

I guess it should come as no surprise that the bracket on which I tried to do as well as possible is tied for last and the bracket where I just put in a bunch of guesses is in 2nd place after round one. :p

At least most of my later round picks are still alive.

Hey, uolj, thanks for putting this together. It's fun.

14 of my Sweet 16 picks are still alive and all of my Elite 8 are in it, so I'm very happy with my 1st days work. Did I say work? Ha!!:p

Ok, today alone - I had Ohio St lose, Wake lose, FLA St lose, West VA lose AND Utah lose.

My bracket is DEAD to me.

EDIT -
Bracket(s)!!

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm watching the UConn game and I am not that impressed with Thabeet. He seems horribly one-dimensional and I just don't see him as being anywhere near as good in the NBA as what some are hoping. And I don't think he's even the best person on his team, let alone worthy of a #1 pick... But that's just my three cents. And, to be honest, I haven't watched UConn before today...

You are not alone. I haven't been impressed with Thabeet either.

Most mock drafts do not have Thabeet in the top 5 - some not even in top 10. I said awhile back I'd wait and reserve my overall opinion of him until the tourney. His stock is stagnant at best so far.

I am at 12/16 and 8/8 myself. And I am in last place! :p

I'll admit to only seeing a handful of UConn games but it seems to me those that really covet him fall back on the "You can't teach size" argument or love him just because he's the anti-King big man. There's no question that if the skills were there to go along with the size he'd be the consensus top pick. Even in a thin draft he feels like a bit of a reach for us if we get a top 3 pick.

Watching UW/Purdue here but am a little bummed to see UNC finally turned it on. I have them as the first #1 to go down so even though I picked them to win this game the sooner they're out the better.

Griffin with 32 n 15 against Michigan. First FULL game I've seen him play, and I'm very impressed. I think we have to take him #1 if we win the lottery, as much as I love Rubio. Whether we keep him or not I don't know, but he's too good to not be picked #1

Brockman played one heck of a game. I have no idea why they didn't find him in the final possessions of that game. I have really enjoyed watching him play and its sad to see him go. I think he has a shot to make it at the next level just because he has great strength and works so hard on the boards.

Duke better watch out. Texas is a very talented team that underachieved most of the season. Abrams is streaky but he can take a game over if you let him.

I picked UNC to get to the championship game, but man their defense looks awful. Its gonna be hard to win 6 games in a row when you play defense like that.

I do have to admit, while my sig suggests otherwise - I have been steadily leaning towards Griffin this past month. Not there yet though. Almost.

Also, if I may say - I am very very impressed by the Boilermakers. I didn't think they'd get past today, but here we are. IMO, they beat a very good WA team.

Also, did anyone get a chance to catch Elston Turner Jr. playing for the Huskies? He looked good on Thursday.

Griffin is the number 1 pick right now, if Rubio declares there might be an argument. Griffin is a damn good player.

For the Thabeet haters: He isnt going to be drafted because of his offense. While he is young enough and has the tools to eventually become a better post player, his offense isnt good. Its not at the point were he is a offensive liability though ..he is a decent post passer and athletic for the 5, which makes him a small threat.

He is going to be a lottery pick because of his defense. 7'3, yes ' you cant teach size ' but thats not an 'excuse' to draft him either. He IS a shotblocker. He is actually good at it .. he doesnt fall for pump fakes all that much and he is a pretty good help defender aswell. His defensive presence goes beyond the stat book. It allows the perimeter defenders to be more aggressive and he alters so much in the paint that you cant quantify... When he exits a game teams go for the paint .. when he is in there they dont, thats why you draft him .. he is a game changer.

The question is will it translate to the NBA? I dont know ... but I do see what people like in him.

However, I dont see how he can land on the kings.. you dont take him 1, and Im keeping my fingers crossed that we get #1.

Great finish with Gonzaga-WKU. That Mendez-Valdez put on a hell of a game, though he probably got a way with a foul on that turnover around the 50 second mark that made this so close.

That was a fun game. WK has a lot of guts. If they had some size inside or hit those free throws they would of taken this game going away. Gonzaga and UNC is gonna be a high scoring affair, should be fun to watch.

Duke is so soft inside. I hope for my brackets sake they can pull this out.

I have Duke and UNC both out next round so I was rooting for them both to lose today as quite a few in my pool have them going deep.

What a phony controversy this timeout thing is with WKU, yeah the coach should have got the timeout but the player grabbing the ball should have called it instead of inbounding the ball. Hello!

I don't see how Duke survives against Nova. Nova's guards are going to destroy Duke inside.

I think UNC has enough firepower to get past Gonzaga. Gonzaga does have some quality bigs, so i wouldn't be shocked to see an upset. I think UNC biggest challenge is going to be that very athletic Syracuse team. Honestly i want to see UNC advance next round so i can watch Flynn and Lawson battle it out on a big stage.

Some blowouts and average games early to day but once again a fun night cap, plus a perfect day for my bracket. I think tomorrow should be a little more competitive overall.

Oh, turns out I did pick Texas today, but I have 'Nova anyways so no big loss there. 6/8, also lost Washington who I had out next round so no big loss, I believe I gained some ground.

Syracuse still has to beat Blake Griffin and the Sooners first. Something I don't think they're gonna do

Kind of got a head of my self there. I have Syracuse over OK, but i expect it to be a close game. Griffin is going to get his. Syracuse actual has some decent big guys defensively but not to the degree that they have much hope of effectively limiting Griffin. The reason i took Syracuse is they have better guard play and historically good guards are what get it done in the tournament. Warren has to have a big game on both ends to offset what Syracuse can do from outside for OK to win. Should be a good game and its not going to be easy game for either team.
