Anyone see how LeBron and Wade finished off the 1st quarter. Must be because Jordan was in the crowd, it was like watching a videogame out there. Highlight show.

Wade took it straight down the lane and dunked on Vajerao. A couple possessions later LeBron tells his team to clear out and he flew to the basket for the dunk on nobody. Wade then held the ball waiting for the clock to run down and hit a deep 3. LeBron went running back and hit a running floater from the free throw line at the buzzard. I hope I can find a YouTube clip of it later.

Also Quenten Richardson took a charge from Shaq and caught his knee to his jaw. He is leading the Heat with 8 charges. He's found another niche outside of that streaky 3 point shooting.

I saw the highlight of that play and it was freaking sick. Beautiful, it was just a beautiful :eek:
 
Douby douby... Why do all these great shooters in college become squat in the NBA? E.g. Douby, Redick ...
 
Because they don't expand their game. Being a great shooter can work in college... not too much focus on individual defense, a lot of zone played in college. Their lack of athleticism and blatant disregard for defense is just exposed...

That Wade dunk was monsterous. In the context of the game it was beautiful to watch. Would have been nice if he would have done it on a proven, intimidating shotblocker and in crunch time but this ain't bad :) Anybody think LBJ and Wade could share the court together? Something tells me no... but I could be mistaken.
 
Brook Lopez is averaging 19 and 9 with 2 blocks this season and looking like a poor man's Duncan. He can't hang with Dwight Howard, he ended up shooting 1 for 12 and getting 5 fouls. Last time he played Howard, Lopez shot 37% and also had 5 fouls.

Rafer Alston also had a triple double in the game against Orlando. The Nets are in trouble as they are 0-9.
 
So, LeBron James is thinking about wearing #6 next year, out of respect to Jordan. If I were Mister Russell, I'd be insulted.

Wayne gretskys jersey number is retired in all the NHL arenas. Jordan should get the same treatment.

Can someone honestly answer why anyone who dislikes the opinion of another person has to be considered a "hater"? I'm a fairly young person and that word irks the daylights out of me!

Est.1999: No but if LeBron's going to wear #6 then that is his choice. Just don't expect him to keep #6 if he came to the Kings!

Either way, no one denies the greatness that is Michael Jordan. At the time, the league isn't at the will and mercy of one person because they themselves want to make a change. Some player actually may be wearing #23 to honor MJ.

Gretzky was one of a handful of players to ever wear 99, the others weren't very notable and most were in the 1930s (actually 3 were in the same season on the same team).

The list of players to wear 23 is a mile long so I'm not sure its as easy a call to make.

Actually it really isn't. I think there are around 12 or so... there is only one guy who stated that he was against changing and that is because he's worn the number since childhood. Only notable guys are JRich and Kevin Martin... no superstars or anything. I don't agree with it, if you're going to start retireing numbers, you have to start with pioneers and legends, but where does it end? Mr Russell has to be up there just because of his success.

Far as I know, Gretzky's impact on hockey is much much "greater" than Jordan's impact on basketball...
 
agreed, which is why like I said, I'm against it. Jordan was a great player in a leauge that has had many. A lot of people consider him the greatest ever, but everybody has their own opinion.
 
And even if you do consider Jordan to be the greatest, which I personally do, that still doesn't mean that he was the most significant player in the history of the league, or even necessarily significant enough to justify that ruling. Look at Major League Baseball, for example: I don't think that anybody's going to make the case that Jackie Robinson was the greatest baseball player ever, but nobody's arguing against his number being retired, since he was, arguably, the most historically significant player in the history of Major League Baseball. I don't really follow hockey, but people whose opinions I respect that do say that Gretzky is the most significant player in the history of the NHL. What, aside from being great, justifies Jordan's number being retired? And, as I suggested before, if you're going to retire 23 league-wide because Jordan was great, then you need to also retire 6 (Russell), 13 (Chamberlain), 32 (Johnson) and 33 (Abdul-Jabbar).

I'm talking about all time, not just currently. There are even a half dozen teams that have retired the number for other players.
