Blazers gonna be sitting on that pick until draft night on the off chance that Scoot falls to three and some team pulls out a godfather offer for the pick but I don’t think there’s a chance in hell they actually keep their pick this year. if they do, Dame is probably gone.

Spurs are still too depleted of a roster for it to really affect the Kings for at least a couple more years. Also as good as Wemby is, I’m not sure he’s immediate all-star level good as a rookie.

I'm pretty happy with how the lottery shook out.
Detroit and Houston have been openly tanking and I'm glad they slipped.
And three small market teams got the top 3 picks. I can't imagine Pop will be around for too many more seasons, but at least Wemby will have him as his coach for his rookie year, which is probably the best case for him.
Portland definitely has some decisions to make.

Smart of the NBA to put their generational superstar in a highly competent and stable franchise. Looking forward to how Portland screws this up.

This is the scary thing. They probably have more than enough asset wise to get into the mix of a reshaped West if they are dumb. If Dame were 3-4 years younger maybe you pull that off, but they could have a great start to a rebuild if they play it right. They found a way into the top 3 of what looks like a bit of a top 3 separation draft in terms of value.
I wonder what the best player #3 can get you. I can't recall too many teams ever making it available in a trade, but I think POR could put together a really good package for some sort of star:

That's honestly as good a trade package you can put together if any top 10-12 player is available. Simons+Sharpe and 3 for Jaylen Brown? Too much?

For me any all in move centered around the Blazers getting Wemby. At this point, I would trade Dame and start over. I can’t think a lot of trade partners unless Denver collapses.
I think the problem is they may just be stuck with Dame. Who has 45 mil in salary to just trade away AND give away a bunch of young assets for a 33 year old Dame? Especially with the Russ contract and Wall contract out of circulation to match salary.
Kind of the only thing that makes sense in my head is if LAC swaps Kawhi or PG for him in terms of being able to match value. But if they're resetting, that's obviously not the package they want. Maybe you find a way to make Jaylen Brown work? But would the Celts even want that and age up their title window so much?

Yeah, I don't expect Dame to get anything like that one to one. There will be a package out there for him, even if it takes a teams help to make it work. The "in" thing is future picks, I'm sure they can get a few if they send him off even if they take on a lesser talent on a big contract. The other option is that Dame is willing to just ride it out and ring chase. Be a good vet and help the young guys learn.

That's the issue, the stars that might be out there are the ones that have been out there and they aren't quite worth that kind of package but a package like that for Brown wouldn't be worth it for the C's if they win a ring. They have the exact set up to be a true contender for the long haul as long as Brown stays bought in.
I don't see it. It would basically be Lillard plus whoever they could trade Sharpe, Simons, and #3 for. Where does that get them? Still too many holes IMO. But definitely in decent shape to start a rebuild. And they should. For their sake and for Dame's.
I can't see that from Boston's POV. They're in the ECF with a good chance to play for a championship. Trading Brown and pieces for Durant gets them closer to that goal. Simons, Sharpe, and # for Brown takes them further away, at least in the short term.
Maybe that same package for Bradley Beal? But the Blazers already had the Lillard/McCollum backcourt. How much better of a pairing is Beal and Lillard, especially with Dame a couple years older?
I'm not sure there's a deal out there that makes Portland legit contenders next season.

if he fails, pistons are always there.

To be fair barring injury I think even Luke Walton or Keith Smart could turn him into an All-Star.

Smart probably, Walton would run the offense through Socham and have Wembanyama shoot corner 3's, haha.
They'd probably be best suited with 3 in hand to take a godfather offer for Dame but they won't (and I understand why not) - funny thing is, having 3 and a lame duck GM after trading Dame is perfect for potential sale of the team.

I mean, Siakam just turned 29 and Anunoby will be 26 soon.
If you trade Dame to rebuild around Sharpe (almost 20), and whoever you get at #3 between Scoot (19), Miller (20), or Amen Thompson (20) I don't think you want to do it with 2 guys 6 and 9 years older respectively.
You'd be looking for young players and a haul of picks and pick swaps.
But it sounds like Portland has already decided to go the other way and package #3 to get Dame some help.

I mentioned Siakam and OG as help for Dame, not to rebuild around the two. I'd love to see Dame as a Blazer for his whole career, it's rare company he would be in but I just don't see a path to get to where they want to be, #3 pick is enticing however, should be a fun offseason.
I don't think they are getting either OG or Siakam for #3 and Anfernee Simons, let alone both.
The tricky thing for Portland is they have to find a team who has a player good enough to give up the #3 pick for who is already in their prime and ready to help Lillard win and that team also has to want to rebuild/reset with a #3 pick. Maybe Toronto punts on Pascal Siakam since he's going to cost a fortune to retain and they build around Scottie Barnes, OG Anunoby, and whoever they can pick at #3, #13, and #23? Maybe New Orleans will give up Brandon Ingram now that they have Herb Jones and try to build around a Scoot Henderson and Zion Williamson duo? There's not a lot of teams that potentially fit both criteria. Regardless, Portland is going to want to keep Nurkic and Simons if they're fully committed to being competitive so they're going to need help from a third team to get the salaries to match.
