Monta Ellis a King?

The speculation the article refers to is silly musings by Jason Jones in his blog last night

"If the Kings do bring in Mullin, it would fuel speculation about the Kings' future pursuit of free agent guard Monta Ellis.
Mullin drafted Ellis in 2005 when D'Alessandro.

Ellis reportedly turned down a contract extension from the Milwaukee Bucks and would be interested in playing for the Kings and new coach Michael Malone."

I think everyone here does not like the idea of Monta Ellis coming here , even if we lost Tyreke to FAgency, our backcourt would be too small, besides we already have Monta "Lite" here already in Marcus Thorton

LOL

A guy who can fill it up like Monta isn't something I would disregard. Have we had somebody we could count on for 20+ since Kevin Martin (not counting the contrived 20-5-5 Tyreke season where the organization did cartwheels to get him that 20 ppg)

An undersized chucker is not exactly someone that should be part part of the foundation of the team. You might call the 20-5-5 as contrived but guess what, it's down in the history books and will be spoken about well after you and I are no longer here.

The issue with the guys like Ellis, Thornton, Mayo etc is that they will fill it up at one end but their opponent will fill up just as much on them down the other end and you have no "net gain" with these types. They are fun to watch at one end but they don't win, they never have won as the main guys and they will never win as the main guys. So if people want to see "hit and giggles" then by all means Ellis would be an excellent get but if people want to actually win and contend, then there is no place for a player like that on the team unless they swallow their pride, leave the ego at the door and embrace the team mentality and being a 6th man type. Something tells me that Ellis just won't do that! ;)

well I had all those knocks on Kevin so I hear you... don't disagree entirely. Monta's stat sheet is a little more full in the assist/rebound columns too... but if he won't play hard on defense I don't want him either. However, if the Kings re-tool the lineup and Ellis is part of it, it will be ok with me - I'll just trust Malone to use his minutes to motivate him to work on def.

Throwing stuff against the wall.. no evidence anyone within the organization gives a damn about Ellis, other than some shared ties in Golden State

You can't make Ellis work with our backcourt unless you run him as co-point with Tyreke. Tyreke can defend the 2s, and Ellis can let the 1s go by but probably outscore them. I like the concept of pick and roll offense with Ellis and Cousins, but a strong defensive point guard would work better as a change of direction for the team. There are a dozen options that fit better, though. I only start looking at Ellis if you can bring back Ellis AND Tyreke and ship out 2 of our other three guards.

Ha! If Monta comes to the Kings, he should help promote Reke to stay and turn him a co-point.
This the only chance that his game will be better that it was with Warriors and Buck, defensively.

And (I feel needed to write this) he probably loves the 2009 draft. He just loves playing the back court with guys from that class. LOL

If Vivek, PDA, and Malone are the type of people they claim to be ... using analytics and common sense, Monta Ellis will not be coming to Sacramento. It would be a huge step in the wrong direction.

Thanks, but no thanks. Then there's also a rumor saying he would like to join the Grizzlies. I don't know how they can pay him anyways.

This would be a horrible move and makes no sense. Not only is he a duplicate of what we have, but his game is been in decline. Even though he can still beat his man off the dribble he doesn't finish near as well as he used to and I believe his 3-point percentage was a career worst last season. Not to mention that he never could defend to begin with. I would take IT over him right now and I'm not a big IT fan.

Let's just hope that he didn't turn down that big contract extension because he knows something that we dont.
