Monday, Oct. 10: vs. Maccabi Haifa-Israel

I feel like if you demote Gay to the bench, he's definitely 100% gone next season.

Nobobdy needs to be demoted, just take one of them out earlier in the first and put them back in with the second unit to start second quarter for example. Many teams do it, Warriors look like they will be doing that with Durant.

I hope this doesn't turn into a casspi or Barnes type deal. I'd like to see both in same game. Don't have to be same time although that's a lot of hussle

We are 12 deep with capable contributors

1. Collison
2. Affalo
3. Gay
4. Cousins
5. Koufos
6. Lawson
7. Ben
8. Barnes
9. Tolliver
10. WCS
11. Casspi
12. Temple

At least two guys will get short end of stick when fully healthy and on some nights we might only go 8 or 9 deep.

So has Trill.

Ah well, I guess we can't really blame Joerger for those Small Ball comments now! :p

Hopefully they get it together by the start of the season.

Is that a bad thing?

Yes.

There are only two ways this goes: 1) we turn competitive, in which case Gay was part of that, and he has the talent to be. or 2) we don't get competitive, in which case Gay won't be the biggest name King in danger of leaving.

Gay's a major talent. If Joerger can make him work for a successful team, then in no case do you want his exit to be guaranteed.

He's also obviously in our starting plans, so all this discussion is silly. I believe the original proposal was just to stagger one of the scoring wings back for a few minutes to steady the bench. That's reasonable. On the other hand, the bench has been hanging on in gritty not much talent but just enough professionalism fashion, so maybe even that is not 100% needed.

I kind of want to see how Skal looks next to Cousins and the other starters. The kid has ball skills. Kind of unfair to judge him playing garbage minutes alongside two other rookies and two guys that wont be on the roster. Malachi looks promising too.

Seemed like a free-for-all out there judging by box scores. Everyone getting their fair share of shots up.

:( Trill though? 16mins 6pts 1reb 1ast 1stl....but 5PFs.
We can't just judge by the stat sheet, but it doesn't seem like he was all that productive from a statistical standpoint.

Is it almost guaranteed at this point that Koufos is our starter? I still feel like him and Cousins are an extremely awkward fit.

I don't think Skal is ready for any real meaningful NBA minutes. Not strong enough vs. real NBA players. Extremely frail, and can't rebound. Not the traits you're looking for in a PF.

Maybe 2-3 years from now. I think he'll see lots of time in the DL. While I emphasis him improving from a physical standpoint, I think his mental game needs a lot of catching up to do too. He's one of those young players who need to be slowly brought in.

Lots of questions around his mental toughness at Kentucky. I don't think he's ready for the NBA quite yet.

I'm excited for what Skal can become....but I don't know if I'm confident in this organization to help him become that player.... Still interested in who the Kings have brought in for development.

Taking Cousins out of the equation and assuming Collison is starting, how big a difference is there between:

Collison
Afflalo
Gay
Koufos

and

Lawson
McLemore
Casspi
Cauley-Stein or Barnes
?

Give each of those lineups a Boogie and I'd take the first group but it would likely be a competitive game. This is a team with very solid depth. And that's without even mentioning Tolliver (who played well tonight) or Temple (who has also had a very good preseason game already). And so Malachi, Skal and Georgios are in a position to develop without being counted on to produce.

The Kings could definitely surprise this season.

At this point I'd say one rebound Willie will be one..

Here we go with the tired rebounding diatribe again.

I swear, some so called fans lie in wait for players to underperform so they can pounce all over them with negative criticism. Nothing better to do, I suppose.

I've been over him the entire time and I'm entitled to my opinion. If you don't like it, don't read it like I won't read yours

He's talented but lacks motor, and I don't think he will be good and he has been garbage all summer/preseason, deal with it

I'm actually supportive and have positive things to say about the rest of the roster, typically

The ball movement is much better this season. Players seem to know where the other player is going to be in most situations. People other than Casspi are cutting.

Ben had a play where got the ball at the high post, Temple cut around him for the hand-off, Ben faked the pass, dribbled into a quick screen from the big and hit a step back three. It was the most suave, most NBA-like move that I've seen Ben pull off.

Great night with my big sis and our new big brother Peja! Golden 1 Center is a dream! Go Kings!!.. and Go Giants!! Thank you Panik for capping off a great night!

I wouldn't be so sure about a short rotation. Joerger has said he likes playing 10 or 11 guys. If a short end of a stick is to be had, right now it appears to be between Willie and Tolliver, with the former seemingly sleepwalking through camp as an extension of his performance in Vegas. Willie needs a breakout game in preseason for his confidence and for the coaches to feel more confident in him.

Kosta has had a lot of empty min these first three games

I kind of like Koufos out there with Boogie because it takes some pressure of our best player to patrol the paint. Let Koufos do dirty work so Boogie can do his finesse and power game, facilitate the offense and hopefully stay out of foul trouble. Koufos is more of a physical presence than Willie, and this is maybe a better look to start the game with....I also would say you cannot gauge Koufos effectiveness by box score alone. He's pretty good at being in the right spot, as opposed to Willie, and I think this has to give Joerger comfort.

I was there last night, I thought Lawson and Affalo looked good playing together. Lawson is quick and had no problem getting to the basket. Tolliver looked and shot good as well.
Casspi seemed to look out of place last night, some bad passes and not cutting and Ben moved him out of the way on one play as well.
Ben looked pretty good as well.
Skal also had a nice block at the end of the third quarter.
Cousins and Gay were dominate.
The arena is nice with lots of great food options and a nice patio area as well
If your sitting way upstairs and have long legs, It is cramped and steep but the view is good

You can't stop him you can only hope to contain him #allstar2017
For someone who claims to see the "unbiased truth" and likes to bang the TS% argument drum against Cousins, it's amusing to me that you're not assessing McLemore through similar glasses.

47% TS% while shooting 23% from 3 is nothing to write home about. Small sample size could be the issue, but it seems very biased to not "call it as it is" (something you like to claim you do) when you wrote an entire thread for that said player. I don't think you can continue to be this "truth seeker" you claim to be.

He does seem more aggressive, but that aggression has not paid off yet. Let's hope it does at some point in his career...

Lighten up brother, it was a joke. Before Ben makes the All-Star team he needs to crack a 10 PER. And my entire thread you reference has proved prophetic. B-Mac is not done as a King. The coaching staff has high hopes. He's projecting to be a rotational player, as I anticipated based on comprehensive and insightful analysis that trumps any commentary you will find on the Kings by tenfold. My prognosis re: Ben is not etched in stone, since hoops is a matter of probability, not black and white, hence my 50/50 odds. However there was a near consensus sentiment by fans who declared "the writing was on the wall" based on our off-season moves, his replacements are moving into his locker, the sands of hourglass have expired, and we'd be lucky to get a 2nd round pick for him. Well we just turned down a former ROY for Ben, so obviously this assessment was a faux-paus. By the way your trade idea looks worse than it did one week with Koufos projecting as a starter one opening night.....that's pretty bad!
