Ohhhhh Nice.

Massive power infielder. Very good defensively; has a long track record of really good production. He'll be a lot of fun to watch, which is all I really care about with Giants baseball, since there's no chance at a WS for like 3-5 years

There’s always a chance at a WS if you can make it to the tournament and you got the arms and some momentum.

As dominant as they were in the CS and WS. Even the admittedly loaded Dodgers were extremely fortunate to escape the divisional series

Soto to Mets for 15 years $765 million
That’s just stupid. And exactly why I was screaming so loud to just give Bryce Harper what he wanted years back. Superstar inflation is on the rise. Bryce’s deal is now pretty darn good. I foresaw it. Wish Giants ownership would have.

But for the price of one single Juan Soto, a team can sign 4 Willie Adames level players. Is one MVP megastar better than 4 or 5 all stars? I don’t think so. At all.

Well, not really. The Adames contract comes out at an AAV of $26M, while the Soto contract comes out at an AAV of $51M. On an annual basis, you can sign two players at the Adames level for one Soto, not four. Obviously for a contract as long as Soto's, there's some additional risk built in to the later years of the deal, but on the other hand, that $51M AAV (OK, it will end up being $55M after the option in 5 years) will only continue to get smaller relative to the salary cap as he ages. And as long as Soto stays healthy through the length of the deal, well, the Mets have him locked up for 15 years, whereas the Adames contract goes for 7 and then he's a free agent again and you have to sign him again (or somebody else).

So while there's some give-and-take at the end of the deal it's really a 2-for-1 with lower risk/reward. Also, to fully make it a 2-for-1 you still have to find 23 more years' worth of all-stars to sign to match up 30 all-star years against 15 Soto years. Despite the injury risk, that's the reason teams are willing to go there.

Eh, I don't think so. Dudes like Soto just pay for themselves in terms of fan interest, getting people to go to games and just getting you to the playoffs over and over. Adames is a great player, but he's certainly not a "house-hold name" like a Soto is.

Add in the fact that Soto is just heading into his prime and you get those years too? Man.
