Just tuned in to the game in the 7th. Just in time to see Pollock misplay an out into a triple. Mariners fans were warning us about that.
And this lineup. Pollock in the 3 hole, Mathias playing 2b. Sometimes I think Farhan and Kapler do things so that if it works out, they can say they are smarter than you. Like this is dumb.

Schmitt going down was 100% the right call. He needs to develop a little plate discipline without getting his development wrecked by a rushed promotion. And he’s going to be a contributor if he’s developed right.
No, because you don't want to ruin their development. We hope those dudes can be staples of our infield for the long haul. And it's hard to make an argument they're ready with such little seasoning above AA. Hell, Luciano JUST over 300 career PA above High A ball.
And if we're going to talk about splits and sample sizes, here's Schmitt's monthly splits after his scorching start in May:
June: .140, 4 Walks, 18 SO, 57 PA
July: .105, 5 Walks, 16 SO, 57 PA
He's been bad bad. Like costing the Giants games bad. Maybe you could justify it if the team sucked and you just let him learn up here, but we're actually trying to win games. I'd rather he play everyday vs pitching he can handle while developing properly than him just continue to nose-dive in the majors. Even if all these replacements are bad (they likely are), it's very likely they're improvements on what Schmitt has been offensively the last few months.
Matos honestly needs more time at AAA too. He's been well below average offensively, despite an awesome BB rate and low K rate. Just not hitting for any sort of power.
Conforto being so average and Haniger being hurt the whole year really has put this team in a bind and forced us to move guys up in spots they probably aren't ready for. Pretty damn remarkable we're in the position we're at with how many guys have actually been very disappointing this year. Flores randomly popping for a career season certainly helps. The Farhan bargain bin buys have also kept us going: Thairo-Wade-Davis-Flores-Sabol

What's crazy is when I watched the clip, I thought it was going to be the usual like racial tirade or some sort of slur that gets the broadcast guys suspended. But it was...good reporting? Like it was actually a pretty interesting fact about the O's recent history in Tampa.
Wonder if he has an legal recourse for the wrongful suspension. Would love to see him take it that ownership, which seems to be god awful, from the little I've seen since this story broke.
I'm sure there will be some out there thinking ironically about a somewhat recent incident of debated heavy-handedness, an incident which will NOT be relitigated in this particular thread, thank you very much.
I’ve been watching Schmitt’s progress. I get the need to protect him and his struggles but I’d also say that as the PAs went he was making progress in his PAs. I think he went from swing and miss due to chasing to starting to laying off.
I understand the need to season guys at the lower levels but I also know that a guy can grown from facing the best pitching as well. It’s really going to depend on his makeup, that’s the key. Luciano I think can hold his own right now……he just hasn’t been seasoned at 2b .
In the end, I get it. But that goes back to the trade deadline and if Zaidi knew the plan then he should have tried and be willing to deal a 15-30 rated prospect to add. The Isan experiment was puzzling. Maybe Mathias works. Wisely was a fail. Yeah, if SF sucked, ok, let’s try these guys. SF doesn’t suck and is right in the middle of being capable of making a run in the playoffs but Zaidi didn’t do anything and in fact may have made SF worse with the Pollock and Isan/Mathias moves.
Playoffs do not happen often and when your in position, you need to do what you can to make a run and not just settle for “we can gain experience from this” as Mike Brown would say.
Matos is helping this team win games. Does a lot of things well enough right now. I mean, he’s 21 and in the middle of a pennant race and contributing. The power is going to come. 240 avg with a OPS over .600 is not great but it’s also not a zero in this day and age. Averages are down for the most part. I think this experience is going to pay off big time.
Heliot Ramos absolutely should have been given an opportunity over Pollock. He’s a platoon guy vs lefty’s. Should have taken the Pollock role
Yeah, I'm not against leaving Matos up. His K-BB rate is so freaking good for a 21 year old and it's clear he has an amazing understanding of the strike zone. His profile is one I'm far more willing to let "figure" it out in the big leagues, especially when we don't have a better option right now. Schmitt is kind of the exact opposite where he's swinging a lot out of the strike zone and chasing bad pitches. That's something he needs more seasoning with in AAA.

Seems like as lucky as the Kings got with injuries this year, the Giants have been the exact opposite. Pretty amazing we're still in this position. Kapler been awesome managing and we've needed every bit of depth we went and got this off-season to compete.

Yeah, he's just too flawed an overall player. Great vs RH, but sucks vs lefties and is just a total liability now in the field. He'll be gone for sure
