Mike Miller Anyone???

Mike Miller has been around the league for a while. Decent player, good shooter. Ok all around game. Not too quick but he is a shooter and can somewhat get his own shot. What are everyone's thoughts about this guys joining the Kings?

I'm kind of on the fence for this one. The lakers just signed Steve Blake so they are out of the running. We do have cap space to work with and he is a decent option at the 2 who can also play some 3.

i think he'd be a good signing, for his shooting mainly. i know he was injured some last season but if he can stay healthy he'd be a nice option off the bench...

The Lakers made him a 5 yr/$30 million offer today...I think he's a bit out of our price range for what he does...they can have him.

edit: I'll take Raja Bell over him for probably around half the price.

I've been a fan of Mike Millers for a long time. He's a terrific outside shooter from behind the arc. He handles the ball well and and is a good passer. He can play SG or SF, and is an underrated defender. It would all depend on the price tag and how long a contract he would want. I'd still perfer Morrow, but I'd be happy with Miller. And if we were to sign him I'd start him.

I'm a fan...but a long term deal at $6 million per year? Someone has to be voted off the swingman island if something like that happened.

He's a good signing, but he'll be overpaid, relatively speaking, and probably wants to join a contending team (latching onto any Bron/Wade/Bosh or joining any existing one) after dangling in malaise the past several years. We're not quite out of the woods in terms of winning, I'm pretty sure he'd bypass us as an option anyway, unless we give him what in two years will be considered a toxic contract.

Yes please. Let's get an actual shooting guard and stick him next to Tyreke instead of a PG. Let's see teams match up with us then. I've always liked Mike Miller. Just wish he'd cut that hair :p

He already rejected the lakers' offer of $30mil/5yrs. Some are speculating he has something else lined up or he hates someone on the lakers. I doubt he can get a better deal than this. Maybe more $ but less yrs. Are we willing to pay him $8mil per to bring him in? He is definitely better than Nocioni. And at $8mil, he is better than Hedu's price tag.

The question is, will Miller be the piece that puts us into the playoffs?

Man I must be cheaper than you guys because I say we look at the D-league. There must be a defensive 2 that can hit the 3 there.

As I mentioned in...well, several threads around here, the Mike Miller idea has grown on me as about the only free agent worth actual $$ that could be a smooth fit in our backcourt. He and Cisco really are two of the preeminent do everything shooters in the league right now, you pair them up and you get 48 min of solid fill in the holes roleplayer shooting, passing, rebounding, staying out of the way. And you have such size at every position that the little PGs of the world are going to be stuck either guarding a 6'7"/6'8" SG, a 6'9"/6'11" SF, or a 6'5" to the basket terror in Reke.

But of course money is an issue, and more than money, because if there was no Cisco I would say just do it, its worth the cash. But minutes would be the other issue. People always try to build teams wiht 12 quality players, but that's not how you win. Fact is that you have minutes for 8-9 players, no more, and so the key is to do whatever you can to concentrate as much talent as you can in those 8-9. And Miller coming in would make us 6-deep at the PG/SG/SF spots, so deep that half of the Reke/Beno/Cisco/Miller/Casspi/Greene grouping would be playing fewer than 20 minutes a night, there would surely be guys looking to leave for greener pastures where they could get more time, and eerybody's contracts would either beign to look excessive, or in the case of the young guys loom as potentially excessive in the future.

For this year, we might as well continue the "Donte Greene at shooting guard" experiment. It almost works. He's got the defense, can shoot the three, and, with our shiny new front court, looks to be losing some of his minutes at power forward. Can you imagine Johnny Flynn trying to guard Donte?

Actually, he has cut his hair... Lets hope it wasn't a Samson complex..

My first thought was to just offer Miller a one year deal at 7 or 8 mil. Sort of fill the hole with a quality player for one year. Then I got to thinking. There's the high probability of a lockout after the 2010 season. Its possible that we end up with a repeat of the 55 game season. Why not give Miller a two year contract. If you don't play because of a lockout, you don't get paid. If we end up playing a 50 game season, we only pay for 50 games. So instead of paying out 8 mil we would only pay about 5 mil. Just a crazy thought, and I'm not sure Miller's worth all that much trouble anyway. But he would be a good fit next to Tyreke. And one must remember that Cisco has been a little injury prone the last couple of years. So it wouldn't hurt to have someone with experience there just in case.

If we were going to spend some real money, Miller probably should be the guy. I can't think of anybody else really who's going to be significantly better than Cisco in that role, assuming Cisco is fully over the injury.

But the more I think about it, I feel like we should just pick up an affordable jumpshooting SG and a 3rd string change-of-pace PG, and then throw this roster on the floor to see how it looks. We know the Reke/Beno combo works, we know Cisco has many of the qualities of that ideal backcourt mate, and we know Donte can play at least some minutes in that role as well.

We need two more bodies, but it doesn't seem necessary right now to add another contract of any size. We aren't in a position to be making that finishing touch move on a contending team, and in truth we can't really be sure what those finishing moves will need to be yet. A number of questions can be answered this year on the court, and it should be much more apparent by next summer where we have holes; not to mention that the new salary structure of the league will be known.

Bullseye.

I actually think the more defensive oriented Raja Bell is the best fit skill-wise and money-wise. Plus, he probably would be amenable to a shorter contract. Raja Bell can also perfectly provide the veteran voice on and off the court that Evans is asking for.

I like Raja on our team as well as I posted a thread earlier. Most people thought he was too old and not good enough. Mike Miller is a much better overall player, but we'll have to pay for that. I think the most I would offer is $32mil for 4 yrs ($8mil per yr). He turned down a $30m/5 yr deal so the $32m/4yr deal allows him to make more money in 1 less season and he can find another contract by that time.

I'd like the idea if the price were right and the contract not too long (Miller's 30), but realistically, I think there's no chance of this happening. We're getting a couple of cheap bench guys after Summer League, and that's probably that.
