Now that the coaching search is over and the draft is said and done, the most immediate issue the Kings face is the June 30 Option Out decision for Mike Bibby. In your opinion as a Kings fan and knowing the road ahead for this for this franchise, would you or would you not like to see Mike Bibby opt out of his contract. Here are the pros and cons of Bibby leaving the Kings.

PROS FOR LEAVING
1. You will clear 13.5 next year and 14.5 for 08-09 off of the books NOTE:You are on the hook for 28 million to a guard that is on the down side, that you may not be able to trade because of that overvalued contract.
2. Opens up a spot for Ronnie Price, and get substantially quicker.
3. Breakup the Bibby/Artest cesspool (if there was one)
4.You instantly get better defensively and team speed, addition by subtraction.
5. It officially begins the rebuilding process.

PROS FOR STAYING
1. The last link of the semi-glory years of "The Kings" will remain
2. Your best shooter is remains on the roster.
3. Ronnie Price is OK, but in Bibby you have veteran leadership at the point.
4. He stays away from a Pacific Division team (Lakers or Clippers) and he will not haunt you four times a year.
5. You still have one of the Top 10 point Guards in the league

Aren't pros for staying the same as cons for leaving, and pros for leaving the same as cons for staying? :D

I think Bibby has already indicated he was not going to opt out, and with the money he is owed for the next two years I can't see why he would. For that reason I'm not sure its even worth the time to figure out if we want him to.

He'd be crazy to opt out. I hope he doesn't and we able to get something for him. Either during the offseason or he starts the year healthy and productive and his value goes up some.

I have a friend in common with Bibby and he informed me yesterday that Bibby has no intentions of opting out of his contract. He will be a King for the next 2 years unless the Kings trade him.

To not opt out allows the Kings to do a trade, such as for Gooden. If he opts out, Kings loose and Bibbs can sign with anyone and Kings get no compensation.

FOX 40's Jim Crandell has already reported that Bibby will NOT opt out. Crandell spoke with Bibby's agent. I cannot remember the exact date of when this piece of news aired, but it was recent. Crandell also reported Bibby's agent told him they would not interfere with any Kings transactions, i.e. trades should it happen.

I think it would be difficult to move a player off of a down year who is making $13.5 and 14.5 for the next two years.

Instead... Look at the Pros/Cons for MIKE BIBBY...

Pros for Staying:
Ridiculously overpriced contract
Just came off the worst season in memory and won't come CLOSE to the contract has now
Guaranteed starting spot
Don't have to move

Pros for opting out:
{Cricket}

From a Kings fan standpoint, I would like him to opt out. His contract just drags the team down, and he is too old to be apart of the future. If not opt out, at least trade him. I want to see Mike win, and I want to see this team rebuild. Neither can happen with Mike still on the team.

The only way that he would have opted out is if he had a good year last year and was going to be offered a long term contract with some team that could over pay him...

I didn't see your response when I typed mine, slug... Consider mine reinforcement that I heard again a couple of days ago.

:)

Sorry, but I'm a Sac fan and I'm not dreaming that he'll opt out. We don't need another player to simply walk away without getting something in return.

I heard that report from Crandell, too. However, the agent said if the Kings want to move Bibby, he was sure it would be a "cooperative" situation. I think that was a hint that they'd like the team to take Bibby's wishes into consideration.

Since it's the off-season and we don't have to worry about game-time attitude, I'd like to think if the Kings are seriously trying to move Mike that they won't wait until the news is already out to ESPN or someone else before they let him know.

i'd rather see mike stay for the 2yrs left on his contract he is an excellent player , besides we can't find a pg to replace mike overnite someone will probably trade a pg of lesser value and we as kings fans only could hope that, that particular pg molds out to be a descent pg, so mike thanks for staying man we really need you!

Its rebuilding time. I opted for "don't opt out" just so we would have an opportunity to trade him. He's going on 30 now, does not fit the youth movement, has a huge deal, and still mgiht be good enough to HURT us occassionally as he did this April in that Suns game. There comes a time to move on. Its here now. But first part of moving on for me was having him as a trade peice ratehr than gambling on being able to somehow nab a major free agent wiht his money. Sacto at the moment not looking like the most attractive place for a major free agent.
