Michael Porter Jr

So Giles is like our 2018 pick and Porter Jr is our 2019 pick?

#Kangz

At this point who knows what to believe? I will say that no one can reasonably believe this report from Givony but disregard his comments about Doncic avoiding the Kings. So either he's got legit info or everything has to be taken with huge grains of salt.
I don't understand your confusion. We are taking Bagley. Jason Jones knows more about WWE than the NBA,

It's how Vlade is going to make up for trading our 2019 pick away :)

Givony is total BS. He is basing it on Porter mentioning that the Kings held out Giles all year and that some teams don't want him to play Summer League. I guess you can take whatever someone says and twist however you want to get clicks

Givony is posting some crazy stupid stuff lately that's all contradictory.
When Givony used to run his own small website, draftexpress.com, he was quiet informative and unbiased in his opinion.

It seems that now that he is on BSPN... I mean ESPN... he seems to be taking a crazier and attacking tone to get people to click on his content, so he can keep his lucrative job.

Givony is smelling more and more putrid with every ludicrous article he posts. It's as if his superiors told him you need to be controversial and edgy to get the clicks, so now he is just posting crap!

And the Kings are an easy target for him and the rest of the bonehead national bloggers.

Givony was never a reporter of any kind when he had his own site. He focused on watching and evaluating talent as best he could. He wasn't always right, but his site was the best around. He always had a bit of a sensitive side when it came to being questioned. He would defend his point of view sometimes long after the facts showed that he missed on this particular player.

I think the idea of getting inside information from sources he probably didn't have access to before is getting the better of him. It seems to me that he is being used by either agents or GMs and he hasn't figured it out yet.

Givony is posting some crazy stupid stuff lately that's all contradictory. How would he know that MPJ would be red shirted? He doesn't even know what team is going to take him unless MPJ's camp says that MPJ is red shirting himself.

Either way this whole thing has read out like a ridiculous soap opera.
Not sure what's going on with Givony. I've had my disagreements with him over the years, especially about Tyreke Evans, who he totally bashed when Evans was at Memphis. But I've spoken to him at Summer League, and he always seemed like a reasonable person who kept everything league wise close to the vest. Something's changed since he went to work at ESPN. He's made a couple of statements that I happen to know aren't true, or at least are only partially true. He is not Woj!

I think we're going with Porter. Vlade has shown that he will roll the dice and go high risk high reward in the past and whilst he is looking to build a solid team, he wants to add high caliber players.

We want a star and whilst Doncic is a stud at a young age, he may not pan out into a perennial all star as opposed to a stat sheet stuffer and 2nd/3rd best option on a championship team. Bagley is a very solid option but how he fits with Giles and his defense and shooting are concerns.

Porter, if fit, or if you are willing to roll the dice and hope he is has a career not plagued by injuries is a high risk, high reward pick who measures up physically similar to Anthony Davis and can score the hell out of the basketball.

He offers traits that are easy on the eye and if the rumors are true on ownership being involved, he absolutely fits the mold of someone Vivek would fall for.

I hope our medical team has done its due diligence because our future hinges on Giles and more so this draft pick.

It's always a good sign when a prospect states that he is good with coming to the Kings.

But, with all the red medical flags, you have to be super weary that he will be healthy enough to have a good and long career.

I still have the same take on MPJ, if he is healthy, he could be an All-Star for years. The question is always going to be if the back injury is really a thing of the past with him.

I'm not sure I have the stomach to find out with the #2 pick. o_O

I have to admit, I liked MPJ’s answer. Not at #2, but would be pretty excited to get a second high pick and draft him. MPJ + Doncic would be the perfect weapon. Just unguardable on the P&R.

So many holes in this argument.

1. Gordon Hayward is not any more athletic than Dončić and he ks far from a bust.
2. Bogdan at the same age as Luka was nowhere near as good a shooter as Dončić is now. Bogdan could not create off the dribble, was only a catch and shoot type of player and had no where near the vision or the basketball IQ that he possesses now.

I have my own concerns with Dončić but I genuinely shake my head when I see people taking pot shots at his shooting or his athleticism.

He might not be a franchise level player (we don’t know) but Luka won’t be a bust. He will be a very good NBA player.
I agree GH is a good comp. We shall see. I have my concerns about his ability to get his shot off and GH was a better shooter coming out of Butler.

Hayward with elite passing and better rebounding is Doncic' ceiling. So not really Hayward at all. Hayward was also much older coming out of Butler so it's not a fair comparison re shooting, I think Doncic will go on to be an elite shooter in the NBA. People are obsessed with the GH comparison for some reason. Let's just wait and see.

?!?!?!?!?

Crisis averted. He really wasn't healthy at all.
No one should blame any of the other 13 teams for passing up on him. Wow his back must've been horrible. I think it was Jason Jones who said the Kings took him off their board completely after the evaluation with the specialist.

Good luck to him, but man oh man.

I can't speak for anyone else, but he's my nightmare pick primarily because of his injury and then his inability to get out of bed. Those are flares I cannot ignore. We're the Kings, where players break their legs while practicing against chairs (Brad Miller), break their hand tripping over a moving box when they first arrive (Greg Ostertag), sustain a lingering injury when they retrieve a ball wedged against the backboard (Francisco Garcia), sustain an injury when a medicine ball they're exercising with explodes (also Francisco Garcia) etc. Bringing in someone with a 10% chance of further problems because of a medical procedure just seems like spitting in the face of fate.
Hrm...

As a counter argument, maybe this new surgery which I will assume came under the guidance or supervision of NBA team doctors will be the one that finally fixes him.

Either way, I'm extremely glad this is not our problem.

"Underwent surgery last week to try to address issues that have persisted with herniated discs in his back."

He waited until after the draft to address issues he (and his agent) were obviously well aware of. That leads me to believe there is more of a chance of him being the next Greg Oden than him ever seeing success in the NBA.

Can you imagine the uproar if Vlade had selected him at #2 and then this came up? I think those few who were dumping on our front office for passing on him need to admit there was more there than was being told.
