Miami vs. Detroit - Conf. Finals

#63
If Pistons and Spurs get to finals don't the Spurs have home court? Just curious, with their incredible home record it'd be very hard for either team to beat them. Out of curiousity who were the 3 teams that beat them?

Much to my chagrin, I watched both games. I can appreciate good defensive basketball, but I promise fellas, if you score more than the other team, they actually let you win!

it seems spurs'll win another champ.
That's pretty much what people were saying about the Lakers last year prior to the Finals. Don't sell Detroit short. They know how to win basketball games, period. Whether they could win 4 from the Spurs with the Spurs having homecourt, I'm not certain.

Didnt the Lakers have homecourt last year too? This detroit team could care less about where they play... they are flat out good.

Yes, the Lakers had HCA, and only one game 2 b/c of Kobe's miraculous 4th quarter and OT performance.

A Pistons/Spurs matchup in the finals would be quite interesting indeed. Bowen chasing Rip around. Billups trying to contain Parker. The Wallaces vs. Duncan (they've already shown they can handle Shaq). Prince vs. Manu. McDyess vs. Horry. Udrih vs. Arroyo. Despite the fact that those games would probably have scores in the 80s, they'd probably be quire intriguing, me thinks.

I bet LA lost more than 3 games at home though. Detroit may be good but the Spurs at home are almost unbeatable. They'd be lucky to win one in SA unless Spurs have a bad night.

So... Who wins tonight?

Im going with detroit but if Wade heats it up and Shaq has a good game it could go the other way. I still think at home the Pistons will get enough energy to slow the heat down.

I remember that LA had the first 2 games, then Detroit had the next 3, but the last 2 games were aat home in L.A. Why was it different than 2,2,1,1,1?

Instead, last year in the finals it was 2, 3, 2?

The conference finals are 2-2-1-1-1. The NBA finals are 2-3-2.

Who knows... It puts more pressure on the team with homecourt to not lose a game at home out of the first 2 because you may not win one on the road and you arent guaranteed a trip back to your arena.

Game 6

Seesaw battle at this point in the 2nd quarter. Detroit currently with the lead at 31-30.

How is it that LB has convinced guys like McDyess and Sheed that they can check Shaq? From recollection, Sheed didn't really ever check Shaq when he played with the TBlazers.

Glad that this is a good game at this point --- I just want to listen to close games, and that Suns/Spurs blowout yesterday certainly didn't qualify.

Shaq and Wade each playing well to this point. 14 points each before the end of the 2nd quarter.

It's currently 42-40 Heat.

Billups having a terrible shooting night to this point. 1-6 from the floor.

Pistons open up the 4th on a 9-0 run to take the lead back from the Heat.

8 minutes left in the game, Pistons up 84-81, Prince going to the line for two shots.

RButler with a three plus one, but he misses the free throw. Eddie Jones follows it up with a layup for the Heat on the next possession, and the Heat have the lead back at 89-88.

Watching these late round series just makes it more apparent than ever to me that in no way shape or form were we prepared to play with championship level intensity and toughness this season. Seattle probably did us a favor.

Sheed, Ben and McDyess each with 5 fouls with 4:20 left to go in the 4th, and Shaq has hit 6 free throws in a row. Heat with a 6 point lead (and one a 13-3 run), mostly with Wade on the bench.

Kings probably wouldn't have been able to hang with the Spurs as well as the Sonics, that is for certain. Heck, Suns can't even hang with the Spurs as well as the Sonics (at least not to this point).

Now Sheed picks up a technical after making a little comment to the official on his way to the bench. Hamilton hits to free throws; 96-91 Heat.

I agree with Brick. The prospect of facing the Spurs would be daunting enough. The mere thought of having to face either the Heat or the Pistons is enough to give me hives.

Now Chauncey picks up a technical. Pistons handing back homecourt advantage to the Heat by losing their heads (and their shooting touch) at the end of this game 3. Wade's been sitting on the bench for the majority of this Heat run, which is something I didn't think the Heat were really capable of doing.

Sheed and Wade both back in the game at this point. 3:30 left, Heat up 100-91.

Still plenty of time for the Pistons if they can keep their heads on straight.
