i live in houston now, they played the hawks last night. i saw him on lunch break at the shops mall in downtown. he was walking next to some guy i couldnt pick out of a lineup. so he walks by me and i stick my hand out and say "love what you did with sacramento". he shook my hand, said thanks, and continued walking. my 1st time meeting a king or ex king in all my years as a fan. it was a great experience. he's tall. im 6'0 and he kinda towered over me a little


playing alongside webber i think he might of been the 2nd best point guard to ever play for us.
 
He's listed at about at 6' 1" if I remember correctly. I remember being next to him at some clubs, and I'm 6', and he seemed like about 6' 1".

It's not like he was some 1 or 2 year player who barely contributed. He was a major corner stone in what we accomplished in the playoffs.

correct, he did a lot for this franchise. during his years with webber the kings were considered winners. we were *2002 champs and favored to win in 2003. they made us all feel like winners. i have a great deal of respect for him. thats why i stuck my hand out
 
he's the only king other than tyreke who i would trust during the crunch times..

he was robbed of an allstar as a sacramento king seriously he should have gotten at least one or two!

bibby is the man... i watch tons of hawks games because he's on the team... no matter where he plays i still love saying, "bibby for three..."
 
I saw him once at Best Buy in Natomas when he still played here. I was coming out of the rest room in the back, and right there in the hallway up against the wall was Mike playing with his nails like he always does.

So i put my hand out and said "what's up Mike, you the man", and he just looked at me and didn't even acknowledge and went back to his nails.

it was the same day Adelman got the boot. so i don't know if he was still just pissed about that or whatever. But ever since that moment i lost all respect for the guy. i even had his jersey too.
 
Dude, you were just coming out of the can. I don't blame him at all for not wanting to shake your hand...

Everytime I read something like this I just cringe. I guess I just never understood why it's such a huge thing for people to want to bug athletes and celebrities when they see them around town. I would have to imagine that Bibby and other athletes feel so violated when people approach them in public like this.

Now if they are at the arena or doing a promo out in the public then it's a different story. When they are in those venues I consider them to be "at work" and I would expect them to be friendly with the fans. But approaching him in the public especially just after you came out of the bathroom? Come on.

hey i'm not a big fan of coming up to famous people, celebrities either. i prefer to leave them be and let them do their thing because i'm sure they get annoyed with it. only reason i said something to Mike this time was because he was pretty much right there in my way as i was walking. so i couldn't help but say something to him.

i thought i'd be a nice guy and give him his props because he was one of my favorite Kings at the time. but after he just completely ignored me, my respect for him went right out the window.

him not shaking my hand or whatever doesn't bother me. i guess now that i think about it i dont blame him for that.

he just didn't say anything when i said "whats up". not like i was all "ZOMG its Mike Bibby" and got all star struck or anything. it was just a friendly casual greeting. he looked me straight in the eye then immediately went back to playing with his cuticles. pr**k

Come on... I know what you mean but that guy clearly wasn't over-the-top or hassling him. Saying what's up is harmless and the least Mike could have done is acknowledged him. It's really not that hard. I genuinely don't believe how someone could be such a ****, bad mood or not. It's common courtesy to at least say hello back, especially if it's a fan.

Do you realize how annoying it would be for Mike Bibby to respond to every single person who says, "Hey, what's up" to him day in and day out? Do you say "Hi" to every single random person that you make eye contact with? You probably don't. Just because it's Mike Bibby doesn't mean you have to say anything to him.

Let's be realistic: It's not as if Mike Bibby has a line of thousands just queuing up to say "hey". When one guy says "what's up" in an empty hallway (presumably), it is just common courtesy to say hello back. I would expect that from any decent human being. Bar him being mobbed by a group, there is no reason he can't just say "Hey, what's up" when approached. It is just as easy as ignoring said person and coming across as an ***hole. He wasn't busy; he was more than likely just waiting for someone. I don't want to make this into a big deal, but snobby people (celebrities included) really irritate me.

I don't say hi to everyone I make eye contact with, why would I? Plenty of people have greeted me when I barely know them, and I ALWAYS say it back! Guess I was just raised with good manners!

EXACTLY! Not like i was asking for his autograph, or drooling for a photo-op with him or something, i was just saying a simple 'Hi'. I'll leave it at that!
 
I used to see Mike "big time" people all the time while he was with the Kings. I work out at the same gym that he would work out at back when he was with the Kings and I would see fans try to just say what's up to him as they walked by him numerous times. Mike would just look right past them and not even acknowledge them. Mike used to be my favorite King at the time, but after seeing how he would treat his fans I instantly lost all respect for him.

Bobby Jackson on the other hand was a class act. He would say hi to everyone that said hi to him(at the same gym). I even said what's up to him once and we ended up having a 10 minute conversation about the team(this was in the offseason when I believe he was on NO).

Long story short, a lot of professional athletes from the area work out at this gym(Derek Lee, Fernando Vina, some NFL players and a lot of the Kings players), but the only one that I have seen that has not been cordial with others that are working out at the gym was Mike Bibby.

Same upbringing here. :)

I do not bother people of celebrity when I know they are just out and about on their personal business, especially with their family. On the other hand, I think it would look stupid for me to catch their eye and have an expression that indicates I know who they are, without an acknowledging hello or nod or something. (And I still wouldn't do more than a smile and maybe a nod as I moved by, if they are clearly with family/kids.)

I don't want to bother them on their personal time, but there's no good reason for them to flat ignore a simple "hi" in passing.
 
When I worked in Hollywood and encountered celebs all the time and professional courtesy dictated you could not ever say "hi" to them it was the most awkward thing in the world. Being able to acknowledge your fans is the price of fame, now anything beyond a simple "Hello" or "What's up" I don't think they should have to deal with unless its some kind of personal appearance, but sheesh, a "hi" back is just part of being a civil member of society.
