Meeting Day - April 3, 2013

Considering all the other owners know the Magoofs are slimeballs and dislike them for basically leeching off of revenue sharing for years now, I could see a break in precedent.

There was a semi-precedent already... the non-move to Anaheim.

So Hansen thought allowing George to speak would be a good strategy for the Sea group?

Mind boggling.

All it did was show the Maloofs never intended to give Sac a fair shot or listen to Sac based offers.

Interesting fact: Seattle gets Sonics history back for free if it's within 5 years of relocation which is July 2013. After that new Seattle franchise has to negotiate for it, so Bennett stands to benefit if there's no team in Seattle this summer.

If thats the way Hansen speaks in public, I hope for his sake he had an awesome prepared presentation he just pushed button on for the BOG.

Scott Howard-Cooper ‏@SHowardCooper 5m

SEAS knows no precedent for turning down sale this late. SAC obviously comes back with its own precedent: Don't take team from good market.

Scott Howard-Cooper ‏@SHowardCooper 5m

RT @rick_bonnell: To underline Scott's point, no one favored NO over CLT in the macro, but owners are reluctant not to back other owners.

You know Sac group will push hard on high tech advantages @Vivek will bring to arena. Try to sell as a model arena for future NBA venues.

JayMarZZ ‏@JayMarZZ 8m

I am a bit disappointed however that neither SEA presser mentioned how awesome the "Supersonic Jet Turbine" will be.

Bob Moffitt ‏@BobMoffitt 7m

Several #nbakings and @sonicsarena fans blinked and totally missed Chris hansen's press conference. Maybe that's because it lasted 4 minutes

Aaron Bruski ‏@aaronbruski 13m

Mayor Mike McGinn on when SEA can build an arena: "I can't speak to the exact timeline."

Mark Demsky ‏@markdemsky 15m

Hansen sure didn't want to say much about a deal he apparently feels really good about..a bit stange???

CBS Sports 1140 ‏@CBSSports1140 7m

. @DeuceMason expects @Vivek & @KJ_MayorJohnson to speak following presentation. Will #Deuce have another #WalkOff question? #StayTuned

Aaron Bruski ‏@aaronbruski 3m

The George Maloof dynamic might be the most intriguing so far. Politically aligned, Seattle must embrace a toxic name in league circles.

Rob McAllister ‏@Rob_McAllister 3m

The Maloofs not selling is overplayed. They have little leverage. They owe NBA 100-mil plus & best interest of league clause still in play

Well, I am pretty sure (feel free to correct me if I am wrong!) that team relocation has been blocked plenty of times in the past. This being about a sale is a little different. However, I could see the other owners blocking relocation but allowing the sale to Hansen, which would probably lead to Hansen withdrawing his offer on the Kings.

Actually, I wouldnt be surprised at all if it went that way. Then the pressure is off the BOG, technically they didnt meddle with the sale to Hansen, they just veto'd the move. That would put the ball in Hansen's court about whether or not he still wants the Kings, or would rather pursue another franchise to bring to Seattle (and I think we all know which way he'd go on that one!).

Excellent point. The NBA got everything it asked for. The owners haven't forgotten the epic melt-down of George Maloof. Now Maloof comes out and says he wants to move forward? I'm sure they'll let him move forward, but it's going to be on THEIR terms, not his.

These are my favorite, especially the bolded. I dont think there is one other owner/ownership group in the NBA that has good feelings towards the family Magoof, hell, I doubt there is anyone even neutral on the goofs.

From Sam Amick:

NEW YORK — Hedge fund manager Chris Hansen outlined the financial terms, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer expressed Seattle's enthusiasm for bringing an NBA team back to the city and Sacramento Kings owner George Maloof Jr. "expressed strong support for moving forward with the deal that they've made with Chris Hansen," Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn said.

But this *IS* abor the relocation. Stern made it so when he combined both committees. It's a single vote for the sale AND relocation of the franchise.

@Rob_McAllister @CrownDowntown the most leverage for @Vivek is in India. 1.2B people, who wouldn’t want to access them? Like Yao & China.

@CrownDowntown I like how this is stated: "Kings owner tries to convince NBA to let him sell team to Seattle: http://usat.ly/Z2pNEB "

I continue to believe that Hansen/Ballmer offered the Maloofs a minority ownership or some other involvement with the team going forward.

Minority owners have to be approved by the league. Once they sell they have to re apply. You think they want the Maloofs back?

I forgot!! Precedent out the window!! And that was a valid point you made about other owners/Stern **** blocking Maloof shenanigans in the past.

However, I think arguments could be made either way about the single vote thing helping/hurting us. Might as well be optimistic though, right?

Chris Hansen probably admires George Maloof for his public speaking abilities.

Proud of my brother, @SactownMike0476, for taking his passion this far. @CrownDowntown was an idea that blossomed into a movement.

Can't forget the other original @CrownDowntown crew: Lynne, Ron, and Jeff. CDT first formed in '10 with putting out an educational film.

Ryan Lillis ‏@Ryan_Lillis 2m

Some members of Sacramento contingent have left presentation, but key parties still presenting. Pitch could continue for a while

If the whales are still in the meeting I think this bodes well for Sacramento. The more questions the owners ask, the less they were already sold on Seattle.
