Again, I brought this up last night but I'm wondering, were PDA/Vivek dishonest with Rudy? Did they imply Malone would be here going forward during contract negotiations?
Everything points to them wanting to fire Malone this summer and looking for the first opportunity to do so. If they even hinted towards Rudy that Malone would be here going forward, and I can't imagine they didn't and it didn't play into Rudy signing the extension, they were dishonest at best and outright lied at worst.
And given Rudy and Cuz are close, that could really blow up in our faces if they feel PDA/Vivek were intentionally dishonest, on top of firing their guy.

Maybe we can go the other way, throw Mullin a big party and make sure to offer the ****er free drinks. Get him back off the wagon and kick him to the curb. Never wanted that bleeping Nellieballer anywhere around our franchise, or our idiot owner. Its clear the owner needs a basketball nursemaid that actually comes from a winning tradition that respects the game.

Then again, Vivek seems to be inspired by youth leagues...
Just look at the bottom feeders of both leagues to get an idea of what that looks like.

Viveks mistake is who he chose as an advisor. Mullins is steering the ship. Would not surprise me one bit if Mullins decided to coach.
I give Malone major props for not giving in. Vivek had to fire him before Cuz came back and we started winning again. Malone was giving Vivek the finger by playing good defense and half court ball. If Malone could have worked out just a couple more wins with Cuz out......

Was against JVG in the past, but with Gay on board I think he'd know exactly how to use both Rudy and Demarcus.

If he's the one calling the shots from behind and has an idea of how some whacky style of ball can work then he should be the one to take the heat if it doesn't work out. Just do it, do it quick, and kiss off if it fails miserably and do the best you can to minimize the collateral damage.

Funny thing about the 'uptempo' style Corbin coached during Summer League: guess who he didn't have at his disposal?

I used to play ball with Mullin, he's not down here much anymore with him spending more time in Sac. If he were, I'd go to the gym and take him out with Karl Malone style foul for two reasons.
One, to show him the value of a hard foul and defense which is apparently beyond him. Two, so he's physically incapable of sitting on the bench and coaching the team. Make the choice for Vivek/PDA.
Nice guy, enjoy playing with him, but as far as our FO goes he's basically walked through the door with ebola.

Even if we start winning 50 games a year going forward, you don't win titles playing nellieball.
I do wonder if the DWill over Casspi stuff was injury or management pressure.

This is a power grab - a coup d'état by PDA and Mullin, who had been biding their time whispering into Vivek's ear about Malone's strategy, rotations and player development, waiting for just the right moment to pounce. No way does Vivek make this move on his own. Either PDA and Mullin were actively advocating for Malone's firing, or they were complicit by not having Malone's back - a non-verbal shrug here, a grimace there, or a dismayed shake of the head in response to a Vivek inquiry about Malone's coaching. The mysteries of why Sessions would play over Collison or Stauskas over McLemore in key minutes of a 4th quarter make sense now. A coach doesn't do that unless he's instructed to do so.
I find it hard to believe that George Karl would take over for Malone, unless he could be afforded considerably more power within the organization than just head coach. Karl isn't a stupid man. When he sees the head lopped off of one of his brethren for no good reason, he's going to want to make sure that his is firmly protected by an iron collar. PDA and Mullin certainly aren't going to want that. If Karl is hired with substantial power in the organization it would be because Vivek did a double-cross on PDA and Mullin and at time of Vivek's choosing he will have them both guillotined.

It's easy to start the spin by saying the "National media also ripped the Gay and Collison moves."
It's hard to follow through on that state by honestly predicting that our owner, who wants to kick the tires on cherry picking as on offense and considers his 7th grade girls coaching experience to be common ground with a decade of NBA experience, will both make good hires and retain good coaching and front office talent and keep this a semi-functional circus.

These articles about Vivek are insanely concerning. Does anyone know the name of the Spurs owner? How often do you hear about him? Rockets owner? Celtics? Warriors? Hell even Buss in LA was never a big name in the papers until Jim came and messed it all up.
Other than Cuban you could have an inverse relationship with the number of times you hear about an owner and how successful their team is. Even Cuban admitted he needed to learn to take a backseat on basketball operations. Vivek is trying to tell Malone how to coach based on his experience with his daughter's basketball team? Good lord. I bet Malone is partly relieved. But if you're a good coach reading all this I don't see why you'd want to come here. Pretty clear they just want a puppet in a suit.

I don't want to see your face other than on the sidelines cheering. I don't want to hear a peep other than how much you need to sign the check for. You don't know crap about basketball. Your job is to sign checks. I don't care if you like to watch the Warriors play. The have arguably one of the top 3 shooters in NBA history. We have two players than I would trust to take a 3 at any given moment, and one of them is a rookie with no confidence.

Like I said, coach Malone forgot whose toys he was playing with.
Ramon was the new toy. I would be very surprised if all the rotation issues weren't just Malone doing the front office's bidding. Benching casspi. Playing Williams. Playing Ray. Playing Nik even. Reggie evans long benching was almost definitely the front office too. Reggie gets back in the rotation, malone is fired soon later.
There was fighting going on. And malone ultimately was going to lose.
It'll be easy to see what the new puppet coach does, because it will be exactly what the front office directs.
Here's what has always chapped my hide about the whole, "Vivek won a YL championship" thing. He did it with a full court press. You know why you don't full-court press at that age? Because kids aren't developmentally able to make the passes to break it. Using it doesn't make you a genius, it makes you an a-hole. There's a reason most leagues don't allow it until high school. They want to develop kids, which also means having patience until they're physically developed. Training them to lunge and gamble makes them poor defenders, and it's hard to break those habits once learned.
Now back to my regularly scheduled ranting.

The only redeeming potential here is that the Kings don't want to make it look like they were setting things up with Karl while Malone was at the helm. It wouldn't look good because that's just disrespectful, but at the very least it would mean they have some plan other than "We didn't like how Malone wasn't doing what we wanted, so we canned him."

Yeah, there seems to be more Karl talk brewing. My guess is that Karl doesn't want it to look like he's "pulling a Kidd" either, so they'll BS about it being for other reasons, but then they just hire Karl quickly like they always wanted to anyway.

I think George Karl will want this job... at this point i'm too frustrated to think about bringing someone else in... but might as well just bring your guy in quickly. We have a season to get to.
