At this point it is funny that the "rivalry" argument keeps coming up. Like a person will just stop their feelings because you have decided that no rivalry exists. "Thank you, I feel much better now. Kobe rules."
If people still feel a certain way, guess what? That is their right and you have no business telling them how they should feel.
Some of us would still hate LA even if they did not have an NBA franchise, maybe you are the one who should "move on".

I'm sorry...I'm not TRYING to be rude...but this is just SO DAMN DUMB. JUST STUPID. You'd rather the Lakers lose ONE FREAKIN game and miss the playoffs, HELPING their franchise in the long run and HURTING our franchise in both the short and long runs?

I hate the freaking Lakers too. But we are not competing with them at this point. We are competing with ourselves. We are trying to get better. We should be thinking about improving OUR team.
Here is the thing.
If this ONE game didn't mean so much to US, I would be right with you in rooting for a big win to knock the Lakers out of the playoffs. But that one win could REALLY hurt us. And that is the thing. The slight satisfaction we'd get from knocking out of the playoffs would quickly be tempered when the sobering realization that we just got a draft pick 5 spots lower because we won that game.
I hate the Lakers. But I love the Kings. And I love the Kings 100x more than I hate the Lakers. I just wish we all felt the same.

I think you missed the point entirely. The comment is only about the rivalry and not about wanting to beat the lakers next Wednesday to knock them out of the playoffs. Two different conversations are going on at this point.
Someone commented there was no rivalry anymore and to get past it. Some of us, including me, don't feel that way. We hate the Lakers. Even for some of us Laker haters, we still want to lose on Wenesday, because its the best thing for the Kings. There's no point in hurting our team to knock the lakers out of the playoffs. The Lakers aren't going to win anything, anyway.
At this point, it doesn't matter much, both teams look to lose both their later games. Portland plays Utah and the Warriors, Seattle plays Dallas and the Lakers. Portland's game against the Warriors will be the last game of the season, and the one they will hope clinches their getting the #8 playoff spot, so there's not much chance that GS will give that one away. Unless you think that the Zachless Blazers can beat Utah, or the Allenless Sonics can beat the Lakers, it's a wash; one team ends up ahead of us with 31 wins, and the other ties us with 32.
Can we please be done with talking about whether or not people hate the Lakers? I don't mind a little thread hijacking, but this is getting ridiculous.

Sweet, Bobcats should beat the Bucks on pride alone (considering the Bucks have none at this point).
Have faith everyone. Three games to go and I'm confident on the shut-out.
Once we've done our part, the chips can fall where they may.

I'm glad you have confidence, because I don't. For some strange feeling, I think the Kings will win 1 or 2 more games. However, I'm hoping, like you, that they get shut out.
Losing to the Clips at Staples shouldn't be too much of a challenge, when the Clips are feeling very motivated.
There's approximately zero chance that we could knock the Lakers out of the playoffs, but if we won they might end up with a tougher opponent, so hopefully they will be motivated also. Hopefully. Maybe they'll get fired up by the 5,000 extremely loud Lakers fans that are bound to invade Arco.
The toughie will be the Hornets game. Even if they beat Houston, their chances of getting into the playoffs are virtually nil. They have already been eliminated in all but the strictest mathematical sense. I'm keeping my fingers, toes and eyes crossed over that one.

probably if I read all 400 posts i this thread I could find it for myself... but would someone just tell me what the tiebreaker process is?
I already checked... we tied head-to-head with ALL our rivals for the 5 slot. But we have out-sucked all our rivals in conference game. I hope that is the next tie-breaker... is it??

Nope, the tie-breaker is random. Flip a coin. And the pingpong balls get distributed evenly between tied teams, so no edge in the lottery either. That's why those wins over Utah and the Suns were so braindead. We'd be in 5th without those, and the worst-case scenario on our horizon would be what our best-case scenario is now.

Actually, we will tie one of them tonight, since they're playing tonight, and one of them has to wose! We'll then be in 6th/7th/8th/9th. It's only catching up with the other that will be unlikely.

BTW, was going through some old draft-related stuff and found that, at least in the last few years, the NBA has been doing tie-breaking well in advance of the lottery -- right after the end of the season, actually. So we will know our exact position within a week.
