Leave the team alone

The Kings are finally winning. There has been plenty of turnover on the roster. I would leave it alone for awhile.

It will be left alone for awhile, nothing will happen until near the deadline in Feb if something were to happen.

And if an opportunity comes along in Feb to improve this team, you do it. This roster still has weaknesses despite how great everyone is feeling right now and our guys are going to be seeing their value around the league increase if we continue playing like this, which opens the door for more opportunities to improve the team.

The expectations are changing. If we're now considering ourselves a playoff level team, then there's got to be more focus on how we match up against the West's best. We're still going to need to fortify our frontline. Reggie Evans at backup center is not any kind of a long-term strategy. And I guarantee like any FO would do, our FO is and will be looking at ways to improve this team at the deadline.

I still think if you get a good deal, you get rid of Williams, Sessions or JT.

Be careful what you wish for. JT is actually developing into a pretty good defender. Williams on the other hand? I'd drive him to the airport myself if we got any offer for him.

How about going after someone like Mike Dunleavy? I'm sure he can be attained for the right price. Solid vet, good shooter, capable defender.

Hello! Cousins might have become most stable, rock solid person on this roster (ok, Rudy is always cool, so maybe, he hasn't), but let's not create unnesessary tests for Boogie's temper just yet.

Agree but I'm with the OP, I don't want to talk about now. Let FO do what they will and tell me later.

I still think that this line of thinking is too premature. We are 5-1 not 25-1. While I agree to a wait and see approach, if an offer comes along that could improve the team I do it. Doesn't have to be a huge move. We haven't proven anything yet as coach Malone has already said. Hibbert, Horford, Sanders, and others could potentially improve the team and at the right price I would certainly consider especially for the first two listed.

Too early for this mentality and the roster can still need tweaking. I would agree with not making big moves, but small moves that address current faults are the sort of thing that kicks you out of the lottery and into the playoffs.

Look at it this way: Unless the Kings totally collapse, they probably won't be low enough in the lottery to retain their pick. In that scenario, teams will make trades to put them into the playoffs since there is nothing gained by not doing so.

I think given our early success nothing short of a blockbuster for a 3rd big weapon would happen until we either fall off dramatically, or the trade deadline closes. To a certain degree I think the team has already pushed back the meddle date just with a few unexpected good weeks that will cause everybody involved to get cautious and wait and see. Been so long since anybody saw an ember of hope around here they aren't going to want to be the one to snuff it out.

Around the deadline I think there will be a 2-part enquiry: 1) are we still theoretically in the hunt; 2) have the PF or SG positions stabilized in the last few months, or are they still a drain? If the answer to the first question is yeas we're still in the hunt, and the 2nd, at either position, is no, we're still not getting enough, then I see us stepping up and trying to make a stabilizing move at one of those positions. not necessarily a blockbuster, but one they think will upgrade us and give us a better chance at making a run.

You can call me premature, but i would still jump on any deal, giving the Kings a shot at an good defensive PF for JT. I m not buying the narrative, that JT is finally developing into a solid defender. He played above his usual production for a few games, but this trend won't last. Kings still have one of the weakest starting PF in the league and should do anything to improve this situation.

Problem with JT is , that he has no real trademark.
Landry provides the needed low-post-scoring for the bench unit.
Evans is DMC's veteran and seems to be a huge factor of our newfound chemistry and veteran leadership. He provides toughness and rebounding too.

JT is the odd man out, cause he is average in many ways and has no above-average strength, which adds to the team.

Maybe this should have its own thread, but as you can see the backup guard position is where the team is losing ground. JT hasn't done much offensively and that lowers his rating, but he has put out good defensive performances. Sessions, however, is at the bottom of most of these stats for the team, and about any lineup without Cousins has really struggled.

Listening to PDA on the radio this morning, leaving the team alone seems to be the direction he is currently leaning.

The change I would make is a deal that we didn't make. I don't know if we even thought about it. But instead of signing Hollins, and Sessions, I would have given the back up PG role to McCallum, and used the money we used on Hollins and Sessions and signed Chris Kaman. That way when Cuz went out, we'd have a legit center on the floor, instead of Evans, who could then be moved back to the PF spot where he's a benefit, and not a liability at times. Kaman is a decent deffender, good rebounder, and a good offensive player. One thing is for sure, he's a far superior player to Hollins, who will seldom see the floor. Another plus, is that if Cuz ever got hurt and missed some games. Kaman could hold down the starting spot while he's out.

I can see that. I was surprised by the Sessions signing too, though truth be told I thought PDA got a solid vet at a discount price. I never thought Sessions would play so poorly.

My hope was that Derrick William's ending contract and another piece (Evans or Landry) would be dealt for a legit starting PF (either a rim protector or a stretch four) and then JT could be moved to being the backup center. I definitely thought McCallum had earned the backup PG spot and the third/emergency PG spot could be filled by a budget role player (veteran defender, SG in a PG body shooter type etc).

Honestly I've been advocating for trading Landry for a long time but I have to admit that he is playing really well and one of the Kings only dependable bench contributors.

Still, this team needs a rim protector/shotblocker and/or a stretch PF and Sessions isn't cutting it as a backup PG.

I don't want to see any big trades that reshape the team in a major way, but I'm not opposed to PDA making deals to fill roles. I think Collison/Gay/Cousins look like a good trio. I also think Landry fills a role as a scoring big man off the bench and McLemore is starting to come around so I'm not as eager to deal them as I was before, but I'm okay with some tinkering.
