Leandro Barbosa?

Gary

All-Star
I was thinking about how he has kind of been on the outs with the Suns fans this year because of his inconsistent play. What if the Kings were to offer a 2 for 1 deal in Salmons, and Douby for Barbosa?

Not really wanting to bring him here to start at PG or anything because that's not really his thing, but he could play minutes there, and be a "new" Bobby Jackson type player. He's also guaranteed for another 3.5 years.

Suns have Matt Barnes playing the 3 right now, and Salmons offers more to the Suns than Barnes does with his all around play.

The question I have with Barbossa is if he was not just a product of D'Antoni's wacky system. As soon as they bring in a new coach and go to something normal, he turns into a pumpkin. So if we trade for him, do we get the pumpkin or the potent bench scorer?

Nothing against Barbosa, but I don't see a need. Bricky brings up a good point, that I didn't even think of. Besides, I think Salmons is a better player at this point in both their careers. The upside of course would be more playing time for Greene.

Oh please, no more dwarf shooting guards for the Kings! We have enough of those in Douby and Brown.

The idea would be to get rid of Douby.. Barbosa is much more suited to play PG in spots than Douby or Brown. Plus he is a lights out shooter..

That did concern me though about his play recently, but his mom has been ill this entire season (just died on Thurs). I know I wouldn't have my head on straight either worrying about my mom. Who knows though.. Maybe we can dump Salmons for an ender, and a draft pick? That would probably be more ideal. Garcia could start, and Greene could get minutes this way.

The good thing is that Salmons is putting up his points, and showing off a lot of his creating ability (although he seems to drive and get blocked a lot). He is by far the best on the team at creating his own shot. A lot of teams are in need of a starting SG, or SF.

I got your point now.

I changed my mind. :D

So far, the best logical deal I read. It offers us a very good way to get rid of "me-score-first" Salmons and Douby and will also open up the opportunity to fast track Greene's development at #3.

We get rid of Salmons which means openning up more minutes for Greene and Garcia. When Greene becomes the future starter at #3, Garcia slides as the capable swingman. Garcia becomes the future back-up of Greene at #3, also future back-up for Martin at #2, or even at #1 to match up taller players at #1 ( Sasha Vujajic of Lakers )

We get rid of Douby and in return we get the much more capable shooter/penetrator at Barbosa. Barbosa is also a much more capable back-up at #1 and #2 than Douby.

The Suns gets Salmons for their need of a better player at #2, and at the same time gets a young back-up for Nash at #1.

Sounds good for both teams concerned and looks like it is feasible. :)

According to hoopshype, his contract runs through 2012 (one year longer than John), with a player option for the last year. Given that there are questions as to how shall he adjust to a system that is not based on shooting at the first opportunity, why take his long contract?

What is the rush to get rid of QD? He is an expiring this year. It's not that he is making lot of money, or shall be with us for a long time.

I changed my mind not because I am in a rush of getting rid of ineffective Douby. But I just thought if we get Barbosa, we will have an oversupply of dwarf shooting guards ( Douby and Brown ) so that one needs to go. I prefer to lose Douby than Brown, because Douby had consistently and persistently shown he does not want to be the true point guard that we need.

What is essential in this trade for me is getting rid of Salmons to make way for Greene's fast track development as the future starter at #3. Yes, Salmons is good, but not good enough to be the starter at #3 if we want to build an elite team. I believe he will be the potential mismatch problem ( weakest link ) in the future against elite teams with tall players at #3.

Maybe if we lose Martin ( God forbids ), then I am ok with retaining Salmons as our starter at #2.

Starter Pattern:

#5 Divac ( 7' 0" )
#4 Webber ( 6 10" )
#3 Peja ( 6' 10" )
#2 Christie ( 6' 6" )
#1 Bibby ( 6' 2" )

BJackson ( 6' 1" ) Hedo ( 6' 10" ) Pollard ( 6' 11" )

Future Starters:

#5 Hawes ( 7' 0" )
#4 Thompson ( 6' 11" )
#3 Greene ( 6' 11" )
#2 Martin ( 6' 7" )
#1 Udrih ( 6' 3" )

Barbosa ( 6' 3" ), Garcia ( 6' 7" ), Miller ( 7' 0" )

What a tall team. I hope it turns out to be an elite team. ;)

===================

For the meantime after Barbosa trade:

#5 Miller ( 30 min ) Hawes ( 18 min )
#4 Hawes ( 12 min ) Thompson ( 18 min ) Moore ( 9 min ) Williams ( 9 min )
#3 Thompson ( 12 min ) Greene ( 24 min ) Garcia ( 12 min )
#2 Martin ( 36 min ) Garcia ( 6 min ) Barbosa ( 6 min )
#1 Udrih ( 30 min ) ( Barbosa 18 min ) ( BBrown and BJax - garbage time )

Barbosa is sooo good. Could easily start on most teams. I have absolutely no doubt that he would thrive if brought to sacto, paired with beno, martin and garcia? game over. Honestly, that'd be huuuge
