[LAL/HOU] Gawen F. Wells...

No I'd say we still need T-Mac. But yes, he's been playing well. Although he played like garbage the game before. He's really inconsistent. Sometimes SpursKiller Bonzi plays and other times last year's Bonzi shows up.

Hey, he's still trying to cash in. I wonder if he'll make the same mistake he made with us? Go for the dinero Bonzi! :D

Phfff...

What is it about playing for Rick Adelman that makes Bonzi Wells unstoppable? He even hit a couple of big jumpers in the second half. It's saving his career. Again.

I continue to wonder how people miss the fact that Bonzi was once considered a near All-Star caliber OG in his younger years. Rick hasn't made a somebody out of nobody, he's just tapping into what has always been a fearsome mismatch problem, and then soothing the problem ego.

Well that and this is also his contract year.... :)

I wonder how he does it. It's not like his career as a player demands respect. Does getting consistent minutes really make that much of a difference to a player?

Yes, to start with.

I think also it's just personality. Some folks can just lead people. It's just a skill of his, I think. He's good at massaging egos and getting players to perform. He also employs a system that allows for a lot of independent decision making and puts it out there for the players to win. My understanding is that his system is an enjoyable one for the players once the learning curve is overcome and players get comfortable with it and each other.

Bump ... solely to get the thread title referring to Antoine Walker and the 2008 All-Star game off the front index page.

:p

in his element, Bonzi can be a beast. i have always been a fan of the guy. i hope to see him dominate this season.

:: bump ::

I didn't forget. I've always liked Bonzi's game, and no one was more excited than I was when we got him. But the guy has been a head case on a number of occasions, which is why he was traded from Portland to Memphis, from Memphis to us, and it explains why he disappeared with no explanation last season. He's on the fringe when it comes to his mental stability, if you ask me.

But, when he plays for Rick Adelman, it seems like all the problems go away, and not only does he play well, but it seems like he can dominate on both ends of the floor at any given moment. There are no ridiculous technical fouls, no flipping the bird (unless I missed some headlines here and there). It's like the difference you see in a kid with an attention disorder when he's taking his medicine, compared with when he doesn't take it.

I don't know if it's ego or what, but Bonzi has toured the NBA in the past four years or so, and he hasn't played better under anybody in those four years than he's played under Rick. On two different teams. I firmly believe that he owes his career to the man.
