Lakers or Heat?

Who would you root for if the Lakers and Heat meet in the NBA Finals?

Well... heaven forbid (for most of us) that the Lakers and Heat meet in the finals in the next year or two, who do you root for (or at least who would you rather see win)?

I say Heat, too, but talk in the Fisher/Heat thread made me wonder how deep and widespread the Heat Hate was.

I mean if LeBron joining the Heat takes away from his personal legacy then so be it. But there is no way I would rather see the lakers win another championship over anyone else.

"Root" and "Hate" are both words too strong. My first preference is they both implode. But, I'd rather see another LA ring (not so much rooting for it) than see LBJ getting a ring, especially in the first season as a Nazgul.

half my family is from cleveland and its where my ancestors immigrated to way back when..
I was a LBJ fan and a Cavs fan. Kings my #1 team no question because I was born and raised in Sac.

but what LBJ did to the whole entire city... i don't know if I could root for him against any team.

A lot of my hate for LA comes from them just being the LA Lakers.. where as my hate from Lebron is what he single handedly decided to do to an entire city...

this is weird that im kind of leaning towards the Lakers.... i feel like im commiting treason

Good point. I'm more thinking about what your preference would be than whether you'd be actively rooting.

And "Heat Hate" just sounds better than "Heat Dislike". ;)

I still vote for David Stern being mauled by rabbits and the NBA deciding to cancel the finals and not awarding the trophy that year, but I do have to admit while I wouldn't root for the Lakers, they've already got 17 titles so what's one more? LBJ has 0. I'd like to see it at 0 for as long as he's relevant.

I'm not going to vote because I don't really want to cross that bridge unless I have to and I don't even know how I'll feel about next years' Finals until I see the whole season that comes before. But if I went by what I'm feeling right now, as much as it pains me to say this, I think I'm leaning towards the Lakers on this one. A win for the Lakers would at least be a win for building a team the old fashion way (albeit with a ton of overspending and one incredibly lopsided trade). A win for the Heat is more incentive for other superstars to band together and take them down. 10 more months of Lakerfan "three-peat" woofing may change my mind though. It's a lose-lose scenario for most NBA fans.

The Lakers did NOT build their team the old fashioned way. Maybe they didn't quite do it the Miami Three "new fashioned" way, but it certainly wasn't traditional in the slightest. They went from being the 7th seed losing in the first to a Finals berth in one season, and they did it because of a deadline trade that was so lopsided that team reps have argued collusion.

I guess I understand rooting against the slapped-together contender, especially when the new #1 villain in the NBA is there, but I don't understand this sudden softening for the Lakers.

In no way is it a softening for the Lakers. I'm sick of them getting sweetheart deals because "they're the Lakers" as much as everyone else is. But if a bigger rat moves into town and you have to pick one...it doesn't mean you like the other guys any more. Most likely I'll just refuse to watch the Finals anyway if it comes to that.

I'd watch and root for the Heat. I don't see them as being bigger rats. I think the way they built their team is more legitimate than the way the Lakers built theirs, to be honest. That's assuming there was no out-and-out collusion between Riley and Wade to get Bosh and James to Miami. They cleared cap space and signed free agents. All the other stuff is irrelevant.

The Lakers got sweetheart deals and have spent way more money than the Heat in building their title contender. And their the ****** Lakers. I'll never root for them. I'll always hate them. And I don't care if Pat Riley performs Jedi mind tricks on every GM in the NBA to build his team, I'd still never hate them as much as I hate the Lakers. **** the Lakers, now and forever.

This poll is lame. The third choice is such a cop out. I would be interested how people would vote if they were only given Heat or Lakers. Of course the majority of us would not watch, root, etc... during a Lakers-Heat series. But if it happened, somewhere in your heart of hearts, you would like to see one team win it even less than the other.

based on reading the responses, I bet a few people would vote Lakers if they weren't given the cop out option.

I hope that hell would freeze over before these teams would play. I hate the Lakers, I now hate Lebron, and the very idea that the bandwagon jumping, coattail grabbing, couldn't win anything for himself Chris Bosh might win something makes me sick. In fact, Chris Bosh might be my new least favorite player, even over Lebron/Kobe.

All that said- if the Lakers and Heat played for the championship, while I would actively not watch, deep down in places I don't like to explore, I think I would root for the Lakers. I would actually rather see Kobe win a 5th or 6th ring (whatever he is on), than ever see LBJ and Bosh win one...

Well, I'm the anti-piksi in the sense that I do not, and will not, only follow the Kings to the exclusion of the rest of the NBA. If that's what The Finals comes down to, I'll be rooting for the Heat.

I would love to see the most star power team ever assembled get destroyed, even by the Lakers.

I follow the NBA championship even when the Kings is out, especially this coming season if the Heats makes it in. I will continue to root for the underdog....this time I believe it to be the Lakers.

Yeah, but there really are people who just don't get that worked up over other teams and don't really care much about three superstars or threepeats or whatever. I'm personally more curious about the people who actually have an opinion strong enough to avoid a third option that is presented.

If youre a kings fan you have to choose the heat on this one. Im actually happy about the whole Miami situation. I would HATE for LA to be the favorites AGAIN. I hope to find a small child crying about the lakers losing to the heat in the 10-11 finals so that I can take his toys/juice/cookies etc. and make it even worse. I really hate the 7akers that much lol

I guess I think of it this way... I dislike the Lakers and always want them to lose. Specifically I'm looking forward to the point sometime soon where the Kings will be the better team and I hope they get to take down the Lakers on their way to a championship because what goes around comes around and they deserve to get eliminated by Sacramento. Over and over again. But rooting for the Heat at this point is like rooting for the house in cards. What's the fun in that? If you're arrogant enough to stack your team with so many All-Stars, make that top 5 players, that you're virtually assured a championship and you celebrate like you've already won one when you haven't won anything yet, than you deserve to lose I think. And that's one fundamental truism in sports that supersedes one Kings-Lakers rivalry. At least it does for me.

Never for the yellow. Avoiding and not caring is never an option if they win again. Another title would just give them more casual bandwagon fans outside of their area. It's all about location, especially here in CA. Who do I have to worry about spoiling my fun or getting into my conversation when I'm just having a casual sports talk with someone? The mass of Heat fans in the area?

It would give them more reasons to invade ARCO with their arrogance even at games that have nothing to do with them. Last year I went to Tyreke's 20-5-5 game and guess what particular group of people I had sitting behind me? Yes even a game that had nothing to do with them or their team they were just there to spoil the fun. **** that mess.

I'm here in Sacramento just like the rest of you guys, so I hate the Lakers probably more than the average person.

But look at my username (and ignore the outdatedness of it), and it's not that hard to understand why I picked Lakers.

The Heat !!!!

I will never root for the Fakers ... even against Pyongyang Dictators. KINGS FANS DO NOT ROOT FOR THE FAKERS ..... UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!

So you guys that want the lakers to beat the heat want that to happen based soley on the fact that you think the heat are cheating the system or copping out, etc? Yet the kings were robbed of a title because of cheating and preferential treatment and you'd actually root for the lakers? **** the lakers. Not just now, not just in the past, not just in the future, but forever and ever ever and until long after I'm dead!

Personally I have no problem how the Heats were assembled and don't believe they cheated the system. People should have the option in life, even for NBA players, to work for who they want and who they want to work with. Of course there will be consequences but if they're willing to do it, than they should have the right to.

The reason I I don't like them is because they got the "best player and 2nd best" player in the NBA, which in my mind equate to "best" team in the NBA. They're more of a Goliath team and I don't root for Goliath.

The Lakers didn't cheat, it was the league that robbed us of our title. The Lakers did a trade and it takes two to make a deal happen, so I'm not going to hate on the Lakers just because they got a better bargain. Don't blame the star for the star treatment, blame the league for doing so IMO.

I use the past to learn from but not to use it to justify my emotion.

We're on a Kings board, this shouldn't even be debatable. HEAT! But if they meet anybody else in the Finals, them I'm gonna have to go with the West team. I love Wade, but I can't cheer for LeBron after he scheduled that stupid 1 hour segment just to stab his hometown in the back. That was just idiotic
