LA Times says Tyreke Evans being shopped...

With the lakers involved could be a multi team deal where they are tied in at. I don't see any swap with the lakers that makes sense.

so sad. franchise dropped the ball on this one if hes traded. i hope he comes back and smashes the guards defending him.

That was out yestersday, but note the language. The Kings have made him available in talks. Teams have called. There is no talk of a deal in the works. Just mention that we'll talk.

Thing is that I sincerely doubt we can compelte any trade involving our major players until the ownership issue is resolved. New owners are going to want a say in any franchise altering moves for major talent, and we don't even know who they are going to be yet. Will probably want time to meet with the players/assess their abilities too. Could freeze up everything. And might be a good thing too.

I think this would be the case too. If anything, this ensures that every player is probably staying put. Which is unfortunate because with the teams that look to be making the playoffs this season, M.T. could be a HUGE trade asset.

Maloofs final move as owners of the Kings is going to be to trade Reke and Cousins right after they sign a deal....Spiteful punks!!!

J/k j/k...But maybe.

Anyways....GP is dumb enough to trade Reke, but he is also so lazy that doing a trade would mean work for him, so I see this as a harmless rumor.

I don't think MT has nearly the value that most on here think he has. There's not a huge market for a midget chucker who plays zero defense. His contract doesn't make him a bargain either. I think this is why we'll eventually have to trade Tyreke.

Actually, this smells like classic Petrie to me. Float a mystery rumor out there for an in-demand player to a team that would make people take notice (Lakers). Other competitive teams in that conference with an interest in said player (DEN, GSW, MEM, DAL, amongst others) begin making their offer precisely to prevent other competitive team rumor from gaining steam. This is what was at the heart of the Artest deal, and the Martin trade.

For the record, I would either get Rudy Gay and keep 'Reke or trade him with Garcia and IT to DEN for Miller, Chandler, and Randolph. We get two experienced starters in need areas signed for reasonable rates on a decent length, and DEN gets a real depth piece for the future and cap room, not to mention a young PG that was made for Karl's system. Seems like a win/win for me, and makes our lineup Cousins/Thompson/Chandler/Miller/Thornton. Sucks losing IT, but I like that team.

While I would normally agree with you, were talking about the Maloofs here, and they don't know what normal is. They obviously don't care about their image, so why would they care what a potential new owner would say. Who the hell knows if they're serious about anything. They say nothing! All we get are rumors from people that are susposed to be in the know, and then we find out the rumors aren't quite true.

What we do seem to know, by their actions, is that they have no interest in trading Cuz. I'm not sure they feel the same way about Tyreke, so nothing would surprise me. I do know that if I were buying the team, I would want a freeze put on any and all player movement by the team until I had a chance to get a good look myself.

I'm going to respectfully disagree. If there's one thing I know about Petrie, its that you know nothing of a trade until its done. Almost all of his trades, especially his midseason trades have come out of nowhere. We may have expected something, but there was narry a peep from the Kings until the headline in the Bee that someone had been traded. Petrie always had a rule, that he wouldn't throw a players name out there until he had a trade consumated.

Now I have no doubt that teams have called regarding Tyreke, and Petrie might have said that he'll listen to all offers on any player, but I doubt he called anyone and told them, hey, were shopping Tyreke, pass it around will you! Its just not his style. Also someone implied that Petrie was lazy. He's many things, but Lazy isn't one of them. I have no doubt that he's dammed tired of working for the Maloofs. I can tell you one thing for sure. I watch a lot of college basketball, and in the process, especially toward the end of the season, they show a lot of the GM's at the games scouting players. Last year I saw Petrie countless times. A few times at games that surprised me.

People made a little hay out the fact that he never had Robinson in for a workout, but I saw him at two Kansas games last year, so its not like he hadn't seen him play. Personally I think its time for Petrie to go regardless of the Maloofs or the situation. I think you tend to get stale when you stay at one job too long. He built a team that almost won the championship, and for that I'm grateful. But all things run their course and its time for a change. I think he would agree...

This isn't about the Maloofs. They are out. Traidg away major pieces could actually impact ehir bottomline. Suffice it say a team with DeMarcus Cousins might sell for more than one without for instance. Its pretty routine for buyers to put amoratorium on major moves by sellers in the months up to a big deal. The buyer wants the product as it was when he becmae interested. The seller no longer has a continuing interest in changes. You never know, but its just unlikely.

Great points, and it is true that with Petrie if there is one thing more consistent with GP than taking the best player available in the draft, it's playing the cards tight to the chest come trade time. But he's been working under different constraints the past 5 years. Our owners are broke, interfering morons who have overpromised and under-delivered on almost everything they've done since 2007. Similarly, that's when Petrie's reputation took a swan dive. We know that Petrie has been direct and forceful in saying DMC is not available, no question. But with Petrie, the thing I've learned is that his silence speaks louder than any quotes he says. I can't personally recall Geoff saying anything as direct about 'Reke, thus likely why we're hearing this chatter now. People are calling, and the Kings are not saying "no way", just "try harder". I respect that, and frankly, depending on the deal (see above), even agree with it.

I will also say this- my comment above is just one reason why I would re-up Petrie on a short deal to let him ride a transition out into the sunset for his retirement. The man HAS built a great recruiting and scouting team here, and this is not the way he deserves to have it end. Give him a solid 20 years (just one more season) and set up a succession plan with Wayne Cooper or Shareef Abdur-Rahim and keep the Kings a true family run business, just without the Maloof name on it. (rant over).

very doubtful on that last. New owners almost surely going to break continuity when they buy a long time losing team. Show they are serious about winning, get their own people in etc. This is 2002, sure.

I am with Brick on this one. It just makes no sense for the players to be traded, especially the likes of Cousins and Evans while the team is in the process of getting sold. I could understand salary cutting moves for the team because the new owners would want as much salary cap flexibility as possible but in Tyreke's case he is an expiring deal and is really not on that much to start off with.

All the indications are that Kings are getting sold and as such, the trades of major players are likely a no go while its all done and dusted.

Agree totally Carolija- which makes the speed of this thing all the more important. Hopefully we can get this thing sorted ASAP, in our favor.

Remember, the league office has to approve trades. If the Maloofs try to scuttle the team on the way out the door to spite the new owners, I'm certain Stern and Co. will have no problems slapping them down.

Yeah, I tend to agree with you on this one. Although Petrie did manage to stick when the Maloofs took over, its more the exception than the rule. Personally, I think he's ready to retire anyway. I could see him hanging on for the coming draft maybe since there wouldn't be much time for new owners to find a new GM. But after that, I think he's more than ready to ride off into the Auburn hills, and into seclusion. He's never been one to stand in the spotlight. I think he looks at it as a necessary evil that comes with the job. To put it another way, he's not a PR juggernaut.

Thats probably true, but I also think it would depend on the merits of the trade. For instance if we were to trade Tyreke, Salmons and T. Robb for Rudy Gay, that might look like a reasonable trade by the league. Maybe not by us, and I'm certainly not advocating such a trade, but using it as an example. I don't think making a trade is impossible, but any reasonable person would assume that if you actually had a committed buyer, you'd have to run any such trade past that buyer and get his or her approval.

In Tyreke's case, the leverage is with the team right now and will be up to the trade deadline. By that I mean, no dollar value has been set on Tyreke yet other than his current salary, which makes him very tradable. If you wait till freeagency, then you have to make a qualifying offer of around 6.9 mil if my memory serves, and it usually doesn't, after which you become a victim to what the market will bear. Which means, that if another team offers a max salary to Tyreke, we have to match or lose him. If you've already deemed that you don't think he's worth a max salary, which frankly, at the moment, I don't, then what do you do? You either sign him to a salary you don't want to pay, or he walks and you get nothing for him. The other option of course is a sign and trade, which is very possible, but with the max salary, you've now limited your trading partners.

So its kind of a sticky situation depending on how the orginization looks at Tyreke. My point is, that if they don't feel he's worth a max salary, and they fear another team might offer that, then I could see them trying to avoid that situation by making a trade before the deadline. Personally, I hope that doesn't happen, but with the Maloofs, who the hell knows.

I still think any last-second trade would be reviewed by the league and, quite possibly, run by the new owners.

Agreed. Hard to believe a trade goes down now.

I agree. It's not a clear cut situation, especially with Tyreke's injury history, and an outside shot that may or may not be improving. Hard for me to believe the Kings offer him a max salary, especially with their financial difficulties. And speaking of inuries, Tyreke incurred the bone bruise at the worst possible time for anyone to be able to assess exactly what kind of player he's going to be going forward.

We are 5-16 in games where Tyreke plays. I don't know why it is but he seems to really disrupt some of the positive things that we do out there. Before this nasty losing streak we were moving the ball well and had a great assist-turnover ratio. Maybe it's just that we have too many guys who need the ball in their hands. So I guess it's possible that if we could trade Thornton, Brooks, Jimmer, or IT then it might work out with Evans. The problem is those guys aren't going to get us much back in return...

Indeed. He completely disrupts things...from the bench. Getting lmited minutes. Its just terrible. Never mind he's one of the most willing passers on the team.

He's played 25 and 32 minutes the past two games -- games in which we were completely blown out and he probably could have rested even more. I don't understand what your point is. He typically plays 32+ minutes a game when he's healthy.

We were completely blown out in an OT game? Do tell.

Reke is a talent to be sure. I would not call him a star by any means. He is in his 4th season and not a whiff of an all star team, nor an all NBA team. He simply has not produced enough for those honors.

Could he one day? Sure. But until then, he is a potential star - not a star.

Also, we have absolutely stunk in his 4 seasons with us. I am not saying that it is his fault, but we have indeed stunk with him as our leader. I think that it is a chemistry issue. Just as when 2 good looking, intelligent people go on a date together for the first time the chemistry may not be there. It is not anybody's fault. It's just not happening.

We could get excellent trade value for Reke. We could get similar talent value back, with a significant upgrade in chemistry. It may work out for the best for the Kings and Reke. I am not saying that this needs to happen - but I sure am open to it.

Sorry. I was thinking the last 2 games were Memphis and Miami. You know what my point was. So what's your rebuttal? We've never played well with him playing big minutes sans his rookie year.

Great post. I agree with all of it.

Thats crazy we stink as a franchise. So our product on the floor will stink i dnt blame tyrek or demarcus for us not having success. No team can win in a bad enviroment with horrible coaches. We have had garage coaches since rick adelman.

We get Tyreke back playing a position he understands. Placing him at SF is absurd. Or perhaps the coach could quit trying to fit his mini chuckers all into the game and feel inclined to place Tyreke at SF to make room for them. A coaching decision could solve the problem but Smart has no trouble destroying Tyreke's young career.
