Kirilenko opts out, becomes unrestricted free agent

I'd still go after him, but he's not going to get more than 8 mil a year. I'd give him a three year deal at 7, 6 and 5 mil. He's still a big upgrade at SF and doesn't really on athleticism. We need vets, too.
 
Cant sign him until we do something with Tyreke. We also cant sign Kirilenko until we take care of some of our bad contracts.
 
It would have to be a sign and trade because I don't want to pay him outright with the salaries already on the roster.

If you can get Kirilenko for a cheaper contract (doubtful the way its looking, he opted out of 10 million this year), you go for him. And I like Salmons as a person, but I am tired of him getting manhandled on the defensive end by bigger SFs.

:confused: What???? Salmons defense has never been a question. Manhandled???

He is a good defensive player I never questioned that, but when he has to check bigger SFs, he struggles. That is to be expected though. I just think there are better options than Salmons. He weighs less than Evans at 207 pounds (versus 220). You just can't have that at a SF position.

Well, one thing to remember about his motivations for opting out is the length of contract - his goal was to get a deal for around 8M+ for 2+ years. If a team offered him a declining contract starting at around $9.5 or $9M and ending around $8M or so for the third year, he might bite. The risk he felt he would have opting into the 10M was only getting around 6-7M per after he played next year. It was a well-considered, and likely accurate, assumption.
 
Tyreke's cap hold is around $13 million which is our entire cap space. If we signed Tyreke to say $11 million and amnestied Salmons we would have $9-10 million of cap space to play with. We extended QO to Tyreke only and none of the other FA (JJ and Douglas).

I wouldn't mind getting Kirilenko but would much rather go after Iggy in a sign and trade. We might have some pieces that would be of interest to Denver and amnestying Salmons clears up some $7-8 million
 
does phoenix have a SG? they signed EG to a monster deal the other year. we have a watered down EG in MT. maybe they still want that type of player.
 
AK does not demand the ball, moves the rock around, excellent weak side and man defender, a veteran presence and simply would fill the massive void at the 3 with ease. He should absolutely be sought after.

He certainly seems like a great fit. His age and career arc concerns me with a multi-year contract. 3 years would be ok, but I think he's looking for 4+ which doesn't fit with this team.
 
I could not decide if I should post this here or in the Iggy discussion, but I honestly think Iggy may be the best hope the Kings have of signing AK 47 is Iggy holding out. Now I love me some Iggy and would love to see him in a Kings uniform, but I think Iggy will just want too much money and in the end will end up staying. BUT if he can drag this out long enough many teams may stay in in talks with Iggy and leave AK on the table long enough for the Kings to sort out the Evans situation so they can make a serious aggressive offer.
 
If the plan was to play Reke at the 2 next to a PG, AK would be probably my top SF target due to the backcourt taking care of ballhandling duties. But with Reke/MLM in the backcourt, Iggy makes more sense as he can be the second ballhandler.

Wouldn't complain about AK and he's on my short list, but I personally would have Iggy as the preferred option.
 
He is the number 2 on my personal list, behind Iggy. If we can't get Iguodala, AK47 would make me more than happy. Number 3 on my list in Korver, but I have the feeling he will join a contender.

I agree. The trick is to come up with a fair, but not insulting offer to AK. He is on the downhill side of his career and thus I would not over pay for his services. I would convince him to join this up and coming team with a new arena on the horizon and a new ownership group with a chance to instill his veteran leadership. He would instantly be the most respected veteran on the roster, perhaps asides from Hayes.
