Kings @ Wolves Game Thread

Kings looked pretty bad tonight, but I'm not particularly disappointed.

It's the curse of Minny. No matter how well the Kings may be doing, they will lose in Minny. So if they had a dreadful game to get out of their system, there's no better place to do it.

Last year? Bonzi Wells three from the corner? :o

Even with Kevin forcing it he was still 9-15 for 23 points. I think he was forcing because the team was not getting him the ball in places he could score. They went away from him the entire 4th Quarter and they paid the price.

I agree overall he played well, and he should be set up for more shots, like the Bibby to Martin dunk after that timeout. But Kevin can't just go up there and force the action. He had a couple of airballs that I didn't like.

I think KG can beat either of them in the post.

Historically that's not correct. KG was shut down by SAR each time last year and in the past has scored with him.

I don't think anyone in the league can consistantly stop SAR in the post one on one when SAR wants to score. KG is such a good defender that the Wolves would allow that matchup and I believe it would be a good opportunity for us to have generated some offense.

ugly game... we fought back then lost it.... artest needs to calm down with the wild shots and miller needs to hit his shots...

maybe next game...

Hudson always seems to have good shooting nights against the kings, It seemed as if he couldnt miss when it counted the most.

I do have to admit, Artest's defense was absolute killer, 7 steals--ill take that any time. I think he forced so many shots because he realized no one was making anything and time was winding down. There were a couple stupid ones, but i thought he played well within the little offense we had tonight.

I was lucky enough to actually get to watch the game tonight. While I am very disappointed that we did not win, I am not terribly upset. We were in the game until the end and SHOULD have won. Our offense was bad, but I think that will work itself out sooner rather than later. We lost this game ourselves with the turnovers in the fourth. Again, this is correctable.

I really had only 3 basic complaints.
1. Control unforced turnovers.
2. Ron took too many unwise shots.
3. Miller has got to find a way to REBOUND.

All of these are fixable (maybe not #3).

I also am not too upset with Bibby's ejection. It was at a BAD time, but at least he is showing emotion!

WTF was up with 10+ turnovers in the 4th quarter... WTF

and can someone explain to me why the King's offense was terrible? Didn't we have only 5 turnovers by the start of the 4th.....

The Kings have actually won 11 games in Minnesota since the T'wolves franchise was created -- and lost 22. So it's not impossible. But in the KG era, they've won, what, 2 games or something, in Minnesota? Minny only got 33 wins last year, but 2 of them were against the Kings (out of 3 games played).

The seasons go by, the roster changes repeatedly, but we keep losing in Minny and NY, even when those teams are total punching bags.

You are just seriously riding SARs jock at this point. Which would be a much more graphic image if I was sure he even had one.

SAR is a good post player, but he would have averaged 30ppg over his career if he was even 1/10th as good as you make him out to be. Not to mention of course the question of whether a 30pt 3reb PF would even be a winning formula. In any case, here are the win totals of teams which have featured the unstoppable Shareef Abdur-Rahim offensively inside:

14-68
19-63
8-42 (while he averaged 23)
22-60
23-59
33-49
35-47
28-54

^I don't see what Roman said that was so outlandish to provoke such a rude response. While I wouldn't say KG was "shut down" by SAR last year, Shareef guarded him well and also was able to score against him on the other end. The Kings probably need more offense still from Shareef, but the team went away from him in the post when it was generating good shots. And here you are flying off the handle at Roman for making a pretty benign point.

a) this is hardly aa surprise given your own routine defenses of SAR

b) he has made the point all day long, post after post, thread after thread, and its gotten ridiculous.

So let me get this right...

Some of you expected perfection the first game out?

What about how good the Kings looked on defense? Does that count for anything?

Reality check: We're not a top contender right now. We're a team trying to find a new identity. We're gonna make mistakes. The ones I saw tonight were primarily because of a lack of time on the court together. They can be fixed. Some of you need to stock up on tranquilizers if you're going to get this upset this early in the season.

Exactly. Not only that, but I saw a team that played that bad on offense, but still had a chance to win because of how hard they were playing.

This team could possibly grow into a contender. Lets watch and see.

GO KINGS!!!

i think sar should start, i know we cant base rons rebounding off one game, but hopefully he wont have too many 1 rebound games, and kevins not a bad rebounder, i think itd be good to see sar in the starting lineup

i think kenny could be great off the bench as a high energy anderson varajeon eduardo najera type guy

And of the three teams he was on, two stayed at least as bad as when he played for them. The Grizzlies got better a couple of years after he left, but they also moved to Memphis, got Jerry West as manager and Pau Gasol as a draft pick, and so on.

You could send Lebron James to Atlanta and they'd still be a lottery team. Probably Portland too, despite the big changes over the summer. So I can't hold that against SAR, any more than I blame Mitch Richmond for some very similar-looking years.

SAR has proven he is still needs a double-team in the post. Not even Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett could guard him one-on-one. Is it too much to ask to have him be a focal point in the offense?

i admit sar does look good when he plays top tier forwards, but at the same time he doesnt put in enough effort consistently, and can be killed by guys like drew gooden, so if sar was committed 100 percent then hed could really be great, but hes a solid 4th option, 5th if hes coming off the bench

I am seriously starting to get tired of this late game choking we pull out of the hat once or twice :(

I love Artest and what he brings to this team and how much he means to us but bloody hell can he really pee me off with the ill-advised, trigger happy shooting.

Oh well, its only one game :(

b) he has made the point all day long, post after post, thread after thread, and its gotten ridiculous.

The only point I've made post after post is that we need to attack inside.

I'm not about to bring up Brad Miller's name when I say we ought to attack inside. I'm not going to bring up Bibby's name. I'm not going to bring up Martin's name.

There are two players on this team that can get it done with any modicrum of success on this team. Sorry that one of them happens to be your least favorite player.

Your post was rude and uncalled for.

How many times do I have to say I agree? I don't know where his passion is.

As for scoring 30 if he's 1/10th as good as I make him out to be - I'd like to see where I've said he's the most amazing thing since sliced bread. I just think we need to go inside a lot more to win. I don't care if it's to Artest or SAR. I don't care if we trade SAR for another option, but right now we're a bunch of junk shooters with one legit player who wants to play in the post.

Not being stoppable one-on-one doesn't mean he can score 30, it means teams change to stop you. They send doubles, they zone, they rotate and sag. ALL THINGS THAT OPEN UP THE OUTSIDE SHOOTING!

You can throw out all the numbers of wins and losses and attribute them to SAR if you'd like. If it really makes you feel like a man to misrepresent stats than be my guest.

None of those teams had a shot of winning with SAR or not. Right now, the Kings are undergoing a bit of growth under a new coach --- but if I'm not mistaken, every year there was a new coach coaching a bunch of kids on each of those teams.

I said it before - SAR is not a guy that will shoot you into a win very often, but he won't shoot you out either. SAR is someone that plays well in a system and with another scorer who is the man. SAR is someone who can get it done in the post for us.

That's it and that's all.

If you have an issue with my posts about going inside, then attack that or debate that ... but there is no reason for you to PERSONALLY attack me.
