Kings waive Tolliver (merged)

Probably best for both sides at this point, we need his space for bad contracts to be absorbed and he needs to be on a contender or playoff team. We dont have to hit the salary floor, the rest of the money can just be distributed to the guys on the roster, also I think you have the entire season to hit the floor so why not be patient with it.
 
It's hard for me to see how one can be disappointed in the Tolliver cut. How can you know whether it is good or bad until you know how Kings' management uses his available cap room? It's like saying the equation is not correct when you don't know what's on the right side.

I agree with you. Flexibility. There's method in their madness. I do believe that one way or another they are expecting to get at least one useful vet.
 
Makes no sense unless we overpay for someone which would not make sense given we are in a youth movement.

I get the flexibility angle of this move. But honestly, having him on the team would also mean that we've got a vet taking minutes away from one of our young PFs. Does anyone think that Joerger would not play AT?
 
It looks to me this is a move made to open up a roster space, more than saving money. Maybe it can help us to get a future draft pick and a bad contract.

I like AT's personality, but I don't think it's a tragedy to see him gone.
 
Right now for us a roster space is much more valuable than Tolliver in my opinion. Maybe they will try to absorbe a bad contract and get a draft pick.
 
So we save $6 million by waiving him?

Can't say I'm surprised by the move, I suspect we are clearing as much space as possible to throw money at one or two of the top RFAs or possibly UFAs to help expidete the rebuild.

From a contribution stand point he's not really going to be missed on the court since he's a steady journeyman but nothing amazing. However, as a locker room guy he had an impact, but that can be replaced by adding the right people and empowering the existing young leaders to step up.
 
Really liked Anthony and I'm sad to see him go. I have to believe this was purely a basketball decision as the Kings are going really young this year and have some really good vets still on the roster in KK and Temple. Still loved having AT if nothing else to give the young guys another example of someone who knows the work it takes to stay in the NBA. Good Luck AT!
 
If the idea is to absorb a contract and obtain a pick then I'm dying to know who Vlade and company has in mind.
I keep thinking a move up with Phoenix to assure Fox and take on Knights contract, but then that potentially negates any reason why we would need to move up to get Fox anyway. Unless Phoenix has more interest in the salary dump than getting Fox themselves.
Could Vlade be opening up cap space to take on someones bad contract for a 2019 1st? It would be one way to soften the blow of that questionable trade with Philli.

Its all speculation but hes got something in mind to let go of AT.

As it stands now it doesn't serve a purpose, but it could depending on deals that come in the future. It could afford us the opportunity to take some salary back in a future deal and add draft picks or young players from cash-strapped teams. Basically cap space creates more flexibility, which isn't helpful unless its used for something.
 
The move affords the Kings with more roster flexibility to take bake bad contracts and younger players/draft picks. Tolliver is a good veteran but players like him are a dime a dozen. If nothing significant materializes from the move, he should be replaceable.
 
Roster space is limited right now. We have 4 rookies on deck right now and maybe even I. Cousins making the team.
 
Don't understand why the Opt-In date was today and not after the start of free agency.

A.T.'s contract could had been used in a salary dump situation to get assets, like Afflalo's hopefully will be.

I doubt this was to spend on free agents, I think (hope) Vlade has learned his lesson the last 2 years. Most likely this is to take on bad contracts for more picks over the next couple of years. I know people hate the idea of Noah or Turner here for the next 3 years, but cap space is worthless to the Kings. Picks aren't If the Knicks were desperate enough to give up the #8 or even next years #1 for Noah's contract that would be a steal for the Kings. If the Blazers would give up 2 of this years' firsts for Turner again I jump at that.

Not the end of the world though, so I'm not going to get myself into a tizzy fit over it. Obviously they have some sort of plan, and so far, no one from the Kings has given me a call with any info. I could speculate on a lot of different reasons, but that's all it would be. So I'll play the wait and see game. Although speculation is fun.

Assuming that they also waive Afflalo, don't pick up the option on McLemore, and let Collison and Lawson walk, the Kings will have around 60 million dollars in cap space. That's almost enough for three max contracts, depending how long said player has been in the league. I have no problem with extending a max contract on a player like Otto Porter, who is only 23 years old. Don't get me wrong, if Chris Paul wants to end his career in purple and black, I'm on board, just for the fun of it. Ditto Paul George! But that's not likely to happen.

Anyway, I think you see my point. I would be willing to spend big bucks on an older player as long as he happened to be a superstar. Which isn't likely. That said, there aren't that many young players that are freeagents that would command that kind of money. So if I'm speculating, I think it's highly possible that we might be taking back some bad contracts for future assets. I wonder how Noah will look in purple and black? Brandon Knight anyone?

I think the Knicks are in our boat, rebuilding, so I see them actually competing to take bad salary themselves (as reported)

Blazers contracts or Lakers I see as prime candidates, but who knows
