[Game] Kings vs Spurs 1/20/12

Two nail biters in a row - who would have thought we'd come out on top both times? And against very solid opposition. First home loss of the season for the Spurs. We did really well here.

It's astonishing the difference in play between the start of the season and now. So much more ball movement and unselfishness, actual offensive structure, defensive pressure and probably most importantly, solid coaching (for the most part) from a guy who wants them to grow as a team and appears to stress all the right things.

We could just be building momentum here. This is what we were hoping for before the season started. Our confidence is growing and the players even seem to be getting along much, much better than before. A lot of positive signs for the future.

I better not see 'Reke bashing (not to be confused with constructive criticism) after tonights game. Tyreke can be a legit star - when his shot is falling there is literally nothing the other team can do to stop him. His decision making, passing and just all-round game have been much better under Smart. I also believe he's in the best shape he's been in in a very long time. Great game from him tonight.

Well, ****, if we can beat the Spurs, there's no reason why we can't beat the Grizzlies...

I know Mr. Wolf says we shouldn't start ******** each other just yet but, looking at the schedule, if we can split the next four games, we've got a reasonable chance to get to .500 by the TNT game.

Did this seriously just happen? When we went down by 6 points I was confident the game was over. I'm starting to be rather impressed by this young team full of "misfits".

Perhaps this was just a fluke victory? Or perhaps these guys actually have what it takes after all?

Stick around, we'll find out right after this !

Spurs shot under 38%, no way I would have been happy if they ended up doing what the Kings did to the Pacers the other night.

What I love more than anything is that the majority of our offense is coming from Reke/Thornton/Cousins as it should be. 57 pts on 46 shots is pretty damn good production out of them. The role players were better tonight, but we still need much better production than 11-35 from the floor

Also, I love the impact JT is making in his minutes as a starter. His effiency and overall effort is really showing with the starters. He doesn't hog shots away like Hickson does and he goes hard every time he's on the floor. Can't wait to see him and Cousins develop together

Wow... All the kings players turn their back on Jimmer when he tries to congratulate them on the win. No wonder he's playing terrible. His team hates him.

Earlier we had sactownfan claiming Reke simply clogs up the offense. Most Reke bashers ignore nights like these.

Keith Smart's post game talks are so much more informative than Westphal's were. I feel like I learn something about the game every time i listen to him. It seems like he's really teaching these guys rather than just coaching them. Now let's get some revenge on those Grizzelies and Blazers! Go Kings!

They'll be back once he has another poor game. The sad/amazing thing is that people forget Tyreke is only 22 damn years old and he's being asked to pretty much do everything for our offense and lock down the other teams best perimeter player on defense. People need to realize that building a team and chemistry takes longer than 10-15 games, especially when you have a coaching change on game 7.

They are really nice as a fan. He takes the time to explain why it is he went with certain players, or did certain plays.

Reke's issue (and my issues with him) is that he never played smart. I never doubted his potential, just the space between the ears. But it seems like in the short time we've had Smart as HC, Reke is already playing a lot more intelligently/less selfishly. There are still lapses, but as The_Jamal has just mentioned, the dude is 22, and hasnt had a good coach in his NBA career.

The improvement in his game now that we have a good coach is friggin wonderful. Reke is back to being an animal...Even in his poor shooting nights he has contributed mightily in other areas.

Smart is getting waaaay more out of Reke than Westphal ever did, and he just took over! Things are starting to look bright again. Now all we need are replacement owners and a new GM!

Can't believe that was the Spurs' first home loss. Great win for our Kings. This is our first win streak right? Hope it continues for a little longer (don't want to get too excited though).

Whatever.. These knuckleheads don't realize that Tyrekes poor performance games have lots to do with the way his TEAM is playing.

If the Kings play at this level, Tyreke won't have all that pressure on his head, trying to make things happen himself..which is where the mistakes and poor scoring nights happen..

This team is obviously starting to gel together..the chemistry is definitely improving, and confidence is going WAY up. If this continues on a consistent basis, I guarantee you won't see many more bad games for Reke. This is a TEAM game afterall.

And that, folks, is the Jimmer-Homer quote of the day.

Shut up. I doubt that's how it happened, and if you don't have spine, you don't deserve millions to play a professional sport.

And also: Yes for the win! Nailbiter, but liked the showings of more passing and more teamwork. Hope the Kings see how much more open looks they get.

You people just multiply, don't you?

Huge win, and your first and only post is about Jimmer not getting enough love from his teammates?

We're the Sacramento Kings, not the Sacramento Jimmers.

Hey, he's the only white guy on the team, and all the black guys hate him for it..can't you tell?

[/sarcasm]

That's one of the most bizarre things I've ever read on this forum, and I've seen it from more than one poster. You have to wonder what people get out of thinking up strange things. I like Jimmer but he's going through a rough transitional period, which is fine. He'll be OK but it will take time. I don't see anything to even suggest that he doesn't get along with our other players. He's a little quiet anyway, so you won't see him getting pumped up like Isaiah and high-fiving everyone.
