Well that sure was a fun game to be at. Wasn't looking so good in the beginning but turned out to be almost the exact opposite of last night's game. I took my FIL and a good friend of mine who hadn't been to a Kings game in the G1C yet. We all had a great time, especially in the 2nd half!

Light the beam, baby!!!

This was an important game to not lose and stave off a real slump from a 'kinda-slump'. No Jamal Murray, a big scratch. Sabonis and Kings not wasting anytime playing 'injury roulette'. I guess they gave him the choice, and they'll continue that decision.

Feels good to have some much deserved ref luck too. Aside from the Monk play, Lyles may have been out of bounds when he missed that drive, fell and then tipped it to Domas for the bucket. It was close so I’m not sure. Would be nice if we got a few more game swinging calls to even out some of those early losses.

I had been pointing to Wolves and Charlotte throughout the drought as teams we are still better off than and then they had that surprise run last year and I thought I was going to have to eat it. And a lot of people here wanted Gupta.

I kind of was one of those guys, but mostly because we (or at least I) didn't know anything about either of these guys, and Gupta was being sold as some sort of a whiz kid by many (including, IIRC, some in the Sacramento media). At one stage, he appeared to be the front runner, and some of us started gravitating towards him.

Kings score enough points on most nights where they don't need Davion to really focus on that aspect. Simply take open shots if they are there and play pesky defense and that should suffice I say.

We went for long stretch in the fourth with a three guard rotation of Fox, Davion, and Monk. Given that two of the guys were having great offensive games, and the third was a defensive beast helped, as also the subpar game KH turned up. Will be a rarity though.

That said, I was really impressed by the full court press. Wonder if we will repeat it more aggressively in future games. Nuggets were also missing Murray, their primary ball handler. Might not be so effective against primary PGs.

Def feels like there's some experimenting still going on. I think not having 2 more reliable wings to turn too just makes for real funky rotations on a nightly basis. And I'm not entirely sure why, but the coaching staff is fairly hesitant to move Huerter down to the 3 to let the other guards get more run together.

I still don't get why KZ isn't a staple on the bench. Maybe something in practice, but he makes defensive plays basically every time he's on the court. The offense remains very very bad, but again. If you put him with Monk, Sabonis, Barnes, Fox, does it really matter? Shouldn't elevating the defensive potential be a bigger priority?

It probably matters, in that you have to be at least a threat. He took (and made) just one shot today in extended minutes. That's both good and bad. He didn't waste shots, but if he is not shooting, teams can double down on Domas more easily.

Jordi’s been coaching his way out of Sacramento and mean that in the best way possible. Would love to see him on the sidelines as long as possible but every small shot he’s done so much with along with all the praise from everyone near the team
I was hyped to get him in, I knew it would be short term. If we get two years out of him, great. It's good for Brown and I think it will prove the point that it's worth spending on good assistants if it happens.

Man, Sabonis is averaging 42% from 3. He started off the year bad from there, and you could see him gettign frustrated, but all his work is starting to pay off. If he is left wide open, I've become confident he will swish it. Now, if he could only work that same magic with his free throws.

That's how guys are trained to defend the three now. You have to defend across the shooter's face or from the side because if you come straight on you're gonna get a flagrant.

I get that makes sense. Just seems he is always just a bit too far away and makes a panic run to defend. Regardless, he always is too late to do any good.

What a win!

I hope we see less and less critical posts about Fox's play around here.. just look at this 4th quarter.. ya gotta understand that a vast majority of the league would love to hand de'aaron the keys n let him run the show... He just turned 25 like a week ago.

in the playoffs the importance of having one of the best PG's is amplified even further.

That was about the time I attended my first Kings game--yes, the Kansas City Kings around Christmas of 1979, but I don't think it was that game! :)

It would appear that this game was on January 26th, 1979 - so basically a full season prior, but the same calendar year.

I see it as leaking off too far and a desparation hail mary to block the shot.

It's not good defense for sure but it's scheme. The real issue is when they have players like Davion leak off on help and run out he's not even capable of getting back out quick enough, nor can gain enough verticality to challenge most shots.

I never considered him the return he was supposed to be a movable piece we just never moved him.

K9? I saw an interesting program the other day about the last moments of ARCO before being torn down. I think that was it at least and Kenny let something very interesting slip. Apparently he already had a relationship with the Maloofs in New Mexico dating back to his college days. It sounded like they actually were friendly.

The 2 minute report has 2 disadvantaged calls for Denver and one for the kings. The most notable was that Lyles was out of bounds when he dished to Sabonis. The monk play was deemed the correct call and they did not get him for a hook like many of us thought.
