Okay, everyone quit panicking!
My impressions of the game? We stunk. But we stunk for a variety of reasons that don't really have me sending up disaster flares quite yet.
First, the Suns were hitting everything from everywhere. At one point, their FG% was 72%. That was, in and of itself, unbelievable.
Second, the Kings just looked like they want the pre-season to be over and done with. In the Skyline Lounge after the game, after the initial crowd left, there were pretty much just a few of us - Koz on the air with Coach T and Scott Marsh. The consensus was that the China trip REALLY took its toil on the team and disrupted their whole routine of getting into game shape. I have to agree. They looked just slightly out of focus.
I have to give major props to Peja and Darius. I don't know how much you saw on TV and I don't know, of course, what the broadcasters had to say, but Peja was pretty much being mugged the entire time he was on the court. For the most part, I think he must have been invisible to the officials because he certainly didn't get the calls.
Darius didn't play perfect ball (none of them did) BUT he did play with hustle, intensity and - after one particularly nasty non-call in the second half - he played with a lot of focus. It was refreshing to see on a night when there wasn't a lot to be celebrating.
IMHO Matt Barnes has earned the right to continue to play for the Kings, as has Evans. I was not impressed with Daniels, who just didn't seem to be part of the flow. (Although considering the outcome of the game, that might not have been so bad...) He just didn't look good.
All in all, although it was an abysmal game if you just look at the score, I'm not going to throw in the towel. The veterans didn't play well and I think it was just mental exhaustion.
Speaking of exhaustion, I just realized I'm tired.
I'll catch up the prediction game results after I get some sleep...
Tidbit: When we left, we walked out next to Geoff Petrie. Unless I'm mistaken, he wears English Leather cologne.
