Did I go to sleep and wake up in a world where the Kings didn't just trade their franchise player for a rookie, a draft pick, and some expiring contracts? This is what a complete "start-over" rebuild looks like you know. The last time we played an entire season with no stars on the team we won 17 games. Rookie guards Fox and Bogdanovic are 3rd and 4th on the team in minutes per game so far and that's in the first 5 games! They're already playing more than I expected them to in October. Cauley-Stein has started at C in every game so far. That's been a pleasant surprise as well. We're never going to know what we have with him if he doesn't play. Buddy is working his way out of a shooting slump and Skal is progressing at a normal rate for a young guy (that jumper looks great btw!) As for the vets, Zach and Vince are who they are at this point. They're not winning games for anybody, they're just there to back up Joerger's voice and kindof sortof resemble NBA players from time to time. Giles is getting red-shirted (which is the right move) and we're a little thin at PF without him so Randolph is going to end up playing more than we probably want him to. Oh well. This team wasn't built to win anyway. George Hill isn't shooting very much but his scoring efficiency is sky high. He's here mostly as insurance in case Fox/Bogdanovic look terrible out of the gate (good news, they don't!) and so we can trade him to a contending team that needs a veteran PG once we decide to make Fox the full-time starter.
All I'm trying to say is that none of this should be surprising. The rotations are bad because we only have maybe 5 players on the active roster who are going to be a part of the team's new core. Over the course of the next 2 or 3 seasons we'll add another top draft pick,
trade for or sign another starter, get Giles healthy and ready to play, and hope the young guys we have now develop into stars. In the meantime, there's going to be a lot of losing. If that bothers you, there are 29 other NBA teams to watch most of which will play better basketball this year than we will. You can scout them for potential starters to poach. And then there's a bunch of exciting young players to scout for the draft in college basketball or various international leagues. Get used to reading a lot about Michael Porter, Marvin Bagley, Luka Doncic, DeAndre Ayton, Mo Bamba and Miles Bridges. Better yet, watch them play and imagine them on the Kings next year! That's enough to keep me going. YRMV. Or go on sniping at the coach if that soothes your wounded soul, it doesn't matter to me.
But why be negative when there's so many other ways you can be?
