Kings training camp 2025 open thread

Dev’s stroke looks much faster.

Love that they’re having IJ guard Deebo to get him reps against wings.

I don’t think it’s possible to have a poorly spaced floor when 2/3 of your frontcourt are Maxime and Doug McBuckets.
If Doug McBuckets gets any run this season is toast. Dude moves like my granny.

Why would he play any way other than normal? That's what opponents will do in a game, so whis it garbage in a scrimmage?

I’m sure winning teams have there best players foul baiting in a scrimmage maybe why the third stringers were hanging with them

Yeah though not encouraging when a team with Maxine, Carter, IJ etc beats your supposed starters.

It is when you want a top 5 pick and rebuild trades at the deadline

It also is if you want those starters to dial in and teach those kids/benchers a lesson next time. The elephant is in the room, don't just acknowledge it, run towards it. Potentially only one side of the rotation is left standing at some point this season.

After super enjoyable Season 1 with Mike Brown in which both Domas and Fox were tasked with running different looks of the offense, the team went away from the DHO and put the ball in Fox's hands full time. Brown was fired and by the time Zach arrived the offensive focal point had been traded and the lead assistant was out the door.

Zach just showed up and had to fit in with minimal practice. With no true PG save for Fultz who had been out of the league it's hard to imagine what coaching that team would be like, not to mention that Domas and Zach really struggled to get their games together. I think that regardless how anyone feels about either of these guys on the defensive end, they definitely can get it together on the offensive side and become a very effective tandem.
If Zach can run DHO with Domas..! there wasn't even a hint of it at the end of the season. He needs constant offball movement to get full benefit from Domas. His ball dominant isolation plays, attacking off the dribble style don't bode well with Domas at all.

I think there's certainly a different level Doug can coach at too between being an "interim" head coach and having the job outright. He tried to instill mentality things, but getting all these guys in camp to actual install the actions he wants to do and run makes all the difference. IIRC, the time between the trade and the all-star break, the team had like ONE practice or something insane like that.

I think some believe we're defending this roster build, which no one really is. But I think it's fair to just say last season is something you throw out the door and we judge these guys starting game 1 of this season with the Perry/Christie pipeline on the same page and the Domas/LaVine pairing as the 1 and 2 option.

Or maybe I'll put it like this. I'll put infinitely more weight on Game 1-32 of this season than I do LaVine's 32 games with us last year. 32 games is still a very very small sample, but at least we can approach the data with some level of a baseline and trust that we're heading into the season without insane off-court turmoil.

But they have a huggy photo 🙏

I think a lot of us understand we're stuck with this roster and don't have high hopes but in order to get out of it we have to play through it, make smart moves, and hopefully still salvage the talent we like when its done.

I have no clue what this team will look like in 2 years but I wouldn't be surprised if Keegan is the only Monte acquisition left. Hopefully Keon as well.

Practice my friend. We don't know

1. What was being worked on
2. When this was in practice
3. And obviously these guys aren't going full game speed like they would in a regular season. NBA players never do in off-season runs, even training camp.

It's the same crap with people who overrate what happens in Summer League and preseason. At least those are organized games though, but still all that matters is what happens game 1-82. None of this stuff counts.

I could be convinced if we used this team 100% optimally (no egos, no one whining about PT), we could actually be a 48+ win team. Meaning really balancing our high-powered offensive talent with plenty of defenders, at all times. And honestly just like 1800+ minutes of Keon and Keegan on the floor together.

We know we won't though and I'm pretty sure Doug is going to be a coach that gives the nod to the vets, even if it leads to more imbalanced rosters being on the floor a majority of the time.

DHOs were a big part of Lavine's game in Chicago last year. When the trade happened, he had one of the best shooting percentages in the league in DHOs.

I’m already pretty calm. I border line could care less.
