Kings trading 7th in larger deal?

@probballdraft

Sounds like the Sacramento pick at 7 might be moved in a larger deal.

Don't know how reliable this source is, didn't come from Jason Jones or Sam Amick yet...

I thought for sure Petrie would draft either Jimmer or Kemba....wonder if we are trading up for Knight or Williams or a vet SF? If true....

Just a question: Are offseason trades involving draft picks usually done prior to the draft? Or do they usually just sort of KIV the deal until they see which player may/may not fall to them?

That person calls himself a "NBA Agent, Draft Expert, Columnist, and T.V. personality. Use my league connections to discuss the NBA, its coming and goings, and the NBA draft"

So many possibilities, but I could see the #7 being a spot teams would like, especially if they are going after Biyombo or Fredette.

I went into the chat the guy was having and he says... "Sacramentio is willing to move 7 and have talked about moving it with Garcia and Udrih and have been approached by other teams trying to get up and get targeted players" I followed up asking him to why they would want to move picks and he resounded by saying "the Kings financial woes have them possibly moving those bloated contracts" Sounds really legit....

Must be a cost cutting measure, huh?

BTW, this was meant to be sarcastic.

I like how the Maloofs say the will spend the capspace and then they still will cut cost.

Have the Maloofs said they will cut costs? Random anonymous guy claiming to be an agent and columnist and TV personality says that, but random anonymous guy hasn't established a whole lot of credibility at this point.

I think our pick is available for the right trade and Udrih and Garcia are appropriate throw ins as well-- though it's because they're not key parts of the rebuild and are expendable to acquire players who are. I don't think we're selling the pick for cap space though -- that doesn't make any sense when we already have the most cap space in the league. That's an old story getting lazily posited as a current one. I'm not too thrilled with most of the projections at #7 either and I think we can end up with a better asset for our team by trading up (Knight, Williams) or by trading down (Singleton, Thompson, Biyombo).

Not very credible. Besides don't we still have that group of NBA babysitters from the arena thing watching and helping the Kings? I doubt they'd be too happy seeing player contract dumps just to help things stay afloat. If we did this it would have to be for a legit player.

Nope. Never

The trick is trying to figure out what he will do by what he doesn't do. :p I am predicting a flood of workouts of SFs at the last moment. Then try to figure out from his public statements about what we should believe. Although I think we need three point shooting, it doesn't take a genius to say we need three point shooting. Otherwise he's been fairly quiet. He really hasn't given a clue as to what he wants; just the very, very obvious.

On a somewhat different line, don't people think that the workout videos teams release are meant to be misleading?

Typically, a lot of trades go down on draft day. But some can't be completed until the next league year, and an number don't happen until after the 2nd week of July.

This season, there will a lockout that will start July 1, 2011 and might not end until sometime in 2012.

Thus, if the Kings are going to complete a trade ... its going to happen within a week in the draft because no GM will want to have an uncompleted trade for 3-15 months that starts under one set of rules and ends with another.

Utah drafts Knight with 3rd pick. We draft Jimmer with 7th pick.
We trade Jimmer + Garcia for Knight.
Sup.
Who's with me?

Hm. I have an entire website devoted to Sacramento Kings news and info as part of my source. I also follow Donte Greene, Tyreke Evans, and Cobra Commander on Twitter. I think I have just as good a chance of delivering inside information at this point in time.

Of course the Kings have talked about trading the pick. It in no way means that they will move the pick. You listen and talk to other teams about all options and then if something that makes your better comes along, you think hard about the move. I would be worried if I heard that the Kings refused to trade the pick. This really isn't a rumor. Just reporting the obvious that pretty much any GM does during the course of doing their job.

Why would Utah make that deal. Why would they want Garcia and his bloated contract. If they want Jimmer that bad, they can just draft him instead of drafting Knight.

I agree with you 100%.
We will probably have to throw in Beno's bloated contract as well to sweeten the deal... :p
