Kings trade JT, Nik and Landry to Sixers (renamed)

I don't see why Brook Lopez can get $20 million easily while teams are hesitant to give Wes Matthews $15 mill?
I'm going to paraphrase a quote in sports, I don't remember who said it, but it is "The only thing you can't buy is size, anything else can be taught". Lopez is a big, legitimate basketballer. Wes Matthews is the same prototypical SG that every team has, he just performed a little better than most recently.

I want Rondo. Bringing him in to this team will be like the Broncos signing Peyton Manning. An injured, but proven winner who can take control of the team.

Carmichael Dave is being such a drama queen on Twitter . His attention craving persona has me quite fed up at this point.
To each their own. On twitter, if he's expressing frustration the same as the fan is he not allowed to speak it? Won't agree with everything he says or does, but so what?

Shumpert signs with Cleveland for 4 years/40 million. I mean I really don't understand how Cleveland has all this cap space to give out all these big deals....110, 80, 40 and then LeBron for probably 20 per year on a 2 year deal or so. JR Smith next?

Its not capspace.

Remember you can always sign your own guys back for infinite amounts of money. Bird rules.

I wonder if their tax bill is going to top the one the Nets had to pay the other year?

I don't understand how they can do it either, and to be honest, it's times like these when I wish the NBA had a hard cap like the NFL.

That would be the final straw.

I think it sounds more like a trade Dave doesn't like...talking about how Bobby Flay can't make a meal with only charcoal for ingredients.

Whatever. It's started to become a little bit like the Facebook friend who likes to post things like "If only the world weren't such a cruel place..."

Dave, I respect you, buddy, but it's getting old. Stop with the mystery tweets, especially the sad ones.
Enough.

I don't know what to tell you. There is an unfollow button, use it. I get absolutely zero out of Twitter followers, it's a fun way to communicate with fellow fans. If you are thinking its to promote my show, trust me when I say the analytics don't support it at all. Remember, we get zero credit for ratings as pertains to streaming or anything other than people with meters actually listening on an old fashioned radio, and 90 something percent of Twitter users stream.

I think out loud on Twitter. I vent. I post. I can't do smileys or emoticons because it's too mysterious and its attention craving or whatever.

I tweet. I post here and other places. I periscope now. I do a show. I love talking Kings (usually). Sometimes I put info out there. Sometimes I hint (because it's all I CAN do). And to sound self-serving, I have a pretty decent track record of being honest in my thoughts and accurate in my news.

You can't win. You're a mouthpiece or a shill, or you're too negative or a Debbie downer or a drama queen or an attention whore.

I don't ask you to put ANY stock in what I say. You'll never hear me say "well, I do this or that so what I say is right". I'm very careful to let fans think what they want, and to dispel the myth that talk show hosts' opinions matter any more than Jane ticket holder.

I'm sorry I don't include a decoder ring with each tweet. You can simply choose to believe me or not when I say that. Short memories man.

This is a trying time for being a Kings fan, and I find myself in the rare position of having trouble finding a silver lining. I live and die with this team, and I'm probably too honest and open with my thoughts and my emotions and should probably back off, but that would be disingenuous.

So honestly, with all respect in the world and zero snark, don't follow me. Mods, take a poll and make a rule that none of my tweets be posted or referenced because they're too dramatic or inflammatory. Don't listen to my show, don't watch my periscopes.

I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm being serious. The drama stuff for some reason bites me today because there's WAY too much drama. If that's what you think, you are entitled and bless you and yours. Ignore me and simply move on. I swear I will not be offended.

Mods, I hope this doesn't hijack anything.

Lastly, I'll say it again, the Kings convos here are top notch, and times like today I'm glued to 3-4 sites, and this is one of them. You are all passionate and knowledgable, and I learn a ton by reading. I love it. And I love being a part of this wonderfully dysfunctional kings family.

If we are to sign Rondo, $10 mil is going to be about what it takes. Look at what the guys around the league are getting. Iman Shumpert who has zero offensive capabilities just got $40 mil for 4 years.

Millsap, got close to $20 mil a year. Decent player, but $59 mil for 3 years? This is unheard of.

Rondo for $10 mil is becoming a bargain in this market and worth the gamble.

It seems more than just something pertaining to Rondo. I don't think not signing Rondo brings more drama. Has to be something we're doing. Trade?

some of these deals given out to these players are unreal. 60 million for DeMarre Carroll? 45 million for Danny Green? shake my head.

Look, at the numbers being tossed around right now? Better to have lost that phone for a day or two. Let this die down, all the big money be handed out, we can compete with what's left over. We can't compete with paying DeMarre Carrol as much as Boogie. Come on.

Im confused too. If someone can confirm Cleveland has the Bird rights of Love, Shumpert, Lebron, Thompson, thus they can re sign all of them and go over the cap, they will have to pay luxury tax though?
Yes, they will have to pay whatever luxury tax applies. Bird rights do not change the luxury tax hits.

We can do this with Casspi, Williams, Miller, Reggie, Hollins?
Williams, Miller, and Reggie - yes. Their contracts were at least three years long, so Bird rights apply.
Casspi, Hollins - no. Their contracts were one year long, Bird rights do not apply

Keep in mind that for Williams ($12.7M), Miller ($8.8M), and Reggie ($3.4M), there is a "cap hold" that goes along with having their Bird rights. That cap hold counts against our salary cap, so if order to use cap space on another player (e.g. Rondo) we would have to "renounce" Bird rights for Williams and Miller and probably Reggie. At that point we would no longer be able to sign them and exceed the cap.

The Cavaliers were able to do it because they were already above the cap - they couldn't sign anybody else's free agents, but they can sign all of their own. We could, in principle, do the same thing (sing all of our own free agents). But we probably want to sign somebody else's free agent(s), and that will negatively impact our ability to keep our own.

Exactly, with the expectation for the cap space to blow up NEXT season the early big signings are crazy inflated, but this is not sustainable, and pure economics dictates that as more and more teams near or go over the cap then those remaining players will have to accept very modest contracts from the remaining teams with the cap space to sign them. Back in the day this would be the kind of draft where Geoff would wait the others out and snag a couple of cheap roll players once most of the other teams were caped out. IF a team had a solid starting 5 and a tight budget they might just do exactly that to load up on a couple of solid roll players on the cheap then look for trades to seriously load up later on.

I'm going to paraphrase a quote in sports, I don't remember who said it, but it is "The only thing you can't buy is size, anything else can be taught". Lopez is a big, legitimate basketballer. No it's not Peyton was elite the year before missing the season

Yeah we could. But then we couldn't sign anybody in free agency. A team, in theory, could have $1 billion in salary/luxury tax as long as they have the bird rights. Early estimates are that Gilbert is going to be paying roughly $270 million after luxury taxes. A hefty chunk, but by locking in everyone not named LeBron long term before the cap raise next year, it might not be such a bad move.

Some of you guys aren't understanding the reason the money is flooding now. As it pertains to your own guys, you sign for ridiculous money now, pay the luxury tax, then the year after you don't have to because the cap surged.

If you have room for a max contract now, you do it because the max will be even higher next year. Then you can sign another max or whatever else you want to do.

The only ones that are messing up are the kings because they failed to put themselves in a position to take advantage of this. Famed capologist PDA strikes again.

That's why you don't need a "cap specialist." you need non idiots. Someone with a basic accounting degree or econ is plenty, and they've worked with more complex projects than 12 salaries and a cap.

So far the rest of the league has just about unloaded all its ammo on free agents. Man there are some MONSTER contracts going out there. Shumpert getting $40 million. Thompson getting $80 million. Green $45 Million. Carroll $60 Million. Butler $95 million. Dragic $90 million. This is crazy. Ranidive is having a heart attack right now.

I'm not if I'm him. If I'm Vivek I'm thinking cool! Another few days of this and Carl is going to have the best contract in the NBA and we'll be able to swap him for 2 first round picks. :)

That won't be necessary. I don't think we really want to become the Twitter police, anyway.

You can't help it if one hundred percent of the people who happen upon your tweets aren't happy with the content, and neither can we, but we're not about to implement a "Carmichael Dave" rule.

That was a response to a response to a response:

@ninjabiscuit appears to feel a certain way about some of Dave's tweets not describing the entirety of his thoughts in explicit detail. Dave, presumably due to built up agitation, over the course of the day, posted a response to him in which he (possibly facetiously) suggested that we as mods take a poll as to whether or not we should allow his tweets to be permitted here.

My post was basically to say that said poll won't be necessary, and if someone has a problem with Dave's tweets, it's not KF's problem.
